Being Banned From Coach Stores - Did You Read?

thanks! this is the only time i've done it (they didn't all give me receipts and i felt bad asking for one because then they'd know i was returning it)...this was all fp merchandise too, not outlet...i don't know if that makes a difference?

This was the only time so you won't have any problems. It is when there are numerous returns without receipts in a short period of time where you would be flagged.

I always obtain gift receipts. That way others won't run into trouble when returning or exchanging.

I am frustrated with Coach but find alot of others feeling the same and found the survey and I think if everyone participates it should help. I felt better when I was finished because I could tell that the survey may help me plus I would jump on any band wagon so that I could buy Coach without feeling guilty when I want more than one for someone else.

Gaylyn, despite the fact that seeing your survey everywhere is simply irritating, I am not saying this to be mean. If nothing else, I believe you are sincere in your concern about the issue.

The survey will not help. First of all, it is poorly designed and childish. No corporation would be concerned, because it is immediately apparent that it was written by disgruntled buyers rather than lawyers, stakeholders, or anyone of influence. For a corporation to take something seriously, it needs to be presented seriously. The survey was riddled with bad questions, bad grammar, and bad writing, along with an obvious bias unavoidably built into the questions. It was not any semblance of an effective or objective piece of work.

Second, you are mistaking opinions with facts: the most glaring example is the survey question asking if buyers "find [an action] to be against legal rights." Just like it doesn't matter what you "find" to be illegal, it also doesn't matter what anyone thinks Coach should be able to do. It doesn't matter how many customers feel they are fully entitled to buy out stock for resale or have Very Hurt Feelings about the whole thing. What matters is to what degree this is legal, and to what degree Coach has a legal right to sell their stock how and to whom they want, barring groups protected against discrimination. You also have very little understanding of law. My own is not comprehensive, but if you think "discrimination" might mean "I can't do anything I want," then you might be wasting your time.

There are, however, things anyone can do. Charlie is right: contact customer service or express your opinions on Coach's surveys. But more importantly: if you don't want to support company policy, stop buying the product. There is no clearer way to show your concern or frustration with a company than to remove your financial support. What is absurd, however, is people who are dependent on Coach because they are acting as large-scale unauthorized resellers (or because they are too fanatical to skip the handbag they want), but feel that Coach should bend corporate policy to their wishes. It's nice to think the customer is in control, and that the company needs us; in the big picture, this is correct. But if you need them for bulk purchasing or because you can't live without another Sabrina, then you have to play by their rules, too. If Coach needed eBay resellers to survive as a company, they would not ban them. If eBay resellers didn't need Coach to survive as a small "business," they would not be hysterical over the letter.

If you hate corporate policy, show it by withholding your dollars. If you aren't willing to do that, don't waste your time feeling both entitled and offended while you hand the policymakers your Visa and shake your fist.

I wonder if the bumpee is the same person who was trying to get feedback on her SA's being nasty when she purchased in bulk? Remember when there was all the drama???

I can't believe this is going on again!!!

If you don't like Coach's policies, you don't want to play by their rules, don't give them your $$$$ just like mentioned above...done deal!!!!

i believe one of the sa's at my outlet resells...i'm not totally sure she's an sa, but she was really chummy with all of the other sa's and they let her behind the cash wrap so i assumed she was (it must of been her day off as she was in street clothes and had her hubby there to carry everything)...she was buying like 10 of all the sale wristlets, wallets, scarfs, and a few duplicate bags during the 50% off sale...the other sa's were smiling and helping her like it was no big deal at all to them...i guess she could have been purchasing gifts but it just looked like she was buying to resell

You never know with SA's, I'm sure there's a limit to what they can buy in any given time. But I have to admit that if I worked at Coach I'm sure I would have about 100 orders every month from friends and family for bags!! :D I know if I knew someone who worked there, I would be all over it!

And I know some outlets don't mind and even embrace the resellers, it makes their sales go up and makes their outlet look good to corporate! I don't know if SA's make commission, but that would be one heck of one!

There are not any SA's that make commission. Associates are all limited to how much they can buy. There are certain times when an associate can buy a little more (deletes) and this may have been one of those times. It is very much against policy for an employee to resell and it is something that can result in losing your job. When there are special times to buy some associates buy for a friend or for gifts, but that is also monitored and limited.

question? going to give a scenario..

im a girl (looks down) yup i am, So being a girl, i love girly stuff, Makeup, clothes, shoes.. and Coach. So when i get into something, i want one of each color.style. on and on. i get started on my first Coach bag. i go nuts, love love, that one, and want that one,, within maybe 3 weeks, i end up buying about 20 bags.. , then another collection comes out, so out of those twenty, i decided maybe 4 i actully didnt like.. so i return them to get 4 different ones. another turn over, and do the same thing. im just one girl, and of course i didn't use all 20 bags, then i change my mind, constantly.

if i was an outlet shopper and did this more than likely i would be banned. it appears to be red flag. since i went back to the store maybe twice a week within a months time. or maybe more within two months time.

it would appear that i am a "reseller" but im not, i just love the product. would Coach review on a case by case basis?

sure i admit i sell a bag here and there (only to get another one i cant afford) but i dont buy to resell, i buy because i love Coach. (my wallet doesnt like it) and for that matter my DH doesnt either..

(keep in mind that this is only a scenario)

Coach decides to Ban me. do you think i would have chance to try and get back into the companies good graces because i went over board way to fast?

how could i prove to the company that i got a little out of control in my buying spree?

mind you i didnt do this, i actually shop at the full price boutiques. i live way to far from the outlets (thank goodness)

i think most that get banned might be regular outlet shoppers., or someone that buys 3 of the same style or go back and get the same style after buying it already.. (im guessing).

but i think there is a select few that just go overboard and buy way to much within a short period of time, and always intended to have them for her personal collection, and also maybe saw a bag a friend wanted and was nice enough to go back and get it for her. there are just so many beautiful bags to choose from.

(on another note, i did get banned from another Designer bag company for do just that, going on a buying binge, i was so sad that i ended up selling almost everyone bag i owned by them. it was really hurtful, they wouldn't hear me out or believe me when i told them i got out of control, i even gave them a spreadsheet and analized my entire buying binge, had 30 bags registered with them. this means i planned on keeping everyone. but still they said no. but they would be happy to service all my bags that i currently owned, i just couldnt buy from any of the stores. not even a cleaner. i would be aksed to leave the store.) - i could not get myself to want to keep a collection and know the company didn't want me in their store. Somone makes a nice comment about my bag, so how to answer "thanks, but the company kicked me out of their store." i rather not carry the bag anymore, ever.

i am much more careful now, and keep my buying sprees in check, my returns & exchanges. always have my receipts. im honest with my SA's . they are fabulous.

i do know someone that was banned from Coach, for the same reason i was banned from the other designer. she loved Coach so much, she was hunting for this bag and that, would go to the stores a couple of times a week. not to resale, but for her or a friend that could get to an outlet. how would one prove that?

i hope my post makes sense?

I've been following this thread recently and I too am paranoid. I have bought Coach on and off from the outlets for the past 15 years. I go through spurts where I buy many bags and then years where I buy nothing at Coach since my taste changes between brands. I am very bad though about impulse buying and then returning or exchanging. I do this at most stores I shop at so I am always scared about being banned. I need to probably work on limiting my impulse buying- I am just afraid if I don't get something and then decide that I do in fact want it that the opportunity will have passed and the item will have sold out. I have bought duplicates a few times but typically that's just around the holidays like 5 wristlets or cd cases for gifts. I think on my 15 year history I exchanged 2 bags without receipts in like 1995- I always make sure I have my receipts. I have 1 bag that I wanted to exchange and cannot find the receipt and after reading this thread I am just too scared to do it. Anyhow- this thread has made me rethink how often I shop at the outlets and how often I impulse buy- in a good way. I need to limit it so maybe this is the scare I need.... who knows. I just hope the day never comes where I get told I can't purchase something there or anywhere else due to being banned. I think that would just be completely humiliating.

Pretty much as long as you have receipts you should be fine, as far as we have been able to tell.

with Coach i am 100% sure you are correct.

With the other designer company that kicked me out i had my receipts when i did the returns/exchanges. i might have been missing 2 of the bags at the most. but the bags had never been used, still in the boxes, wrapped up. they seem to have different policies.

i keep everyone. i probably have every receipt for every bag i purchased from Coach & KS.

(1) Keep all of your receipts
(2) Don't take tags off your bags until you're sure you're going to keep them
(3) Don't buy multiple of a particular bag at a time
(4) Don't check ebay prices for the Coach bag you're buying on your Blackberry while you're standing in line
(5) Actually use a Coach bag as your current purse when you're shopping in a Coach outlet

If you follow these rules, I think everyone can stop worrying about "the letter".

And yes, I've seen number 4 happen, and it was in conjunction with number 3.
