Be honest--do you use the kelly as an everyday bag?

LaVan, I love your pictures with your bags. I am similar in size to you so it gives me a great idea of how bags might look on me (off topic, but how do you manage to find such great clothes that fit?!? jealous jealous :smile1: )

Thank you!!! Since I'm tiny, it's actually difficult to find clothes. However, since I love shopping, then I find quite a bit of clothes that fit also. Most importantly, I go to the tailor for A LOT of alterations lol!!! Sometimes, even cutting a skirt 1 inch shorter makes a big difference!

I use mine every day (these past few days it's been Goldy though...have to admit). I ADORE my Kelly's and don't have one moment of worry about using them daily even when I'm wearing jeans (which is quite a lot actually). Like Gina, I just use the turn-key most times.......

I find the Kelly super easy to use. I love my Birkin dearly but it is a handful (35cm Togo) compared to the 28 Kelly in retourne. I love the handle, shoulder strap and just the LOOK of it. It took about a week to get used to it but I really love it and use it more often then the Birkin just because its easier.

I use my Fjord 35 retourne and my Kelly Lakis more than I use my Birkin 35s...and that's saying something. I like the shoulder alternative and I don't find the straps a hassle at all...the whole joy of using my Kelly bags....sublime.

I use both of my retourne 35cm Kellys in chevre de coromandel all the time. They're the perfect size, perfect leather, perfect everything!
I usually have mine all strapped in and buckled up.

The other day when i went christmas shopping with my mom and sister, i finally used the strap. It was very convienient to have it while trying to carry 4 huge shopping bags!

My sister has a kind of conservative style, i guess... she's a GAP girl. lol. Anyway, she offered to carry my Kelly for me since i had so much to carry, and i have to say, it looked SO SO GOOD on her! I really wish i could afford to just buy her one right now!
It made me totally love my Kellys even more (if that's possible)!

I really use mine everyday and have been doing so for over a month now. I think retourne is easier than sellier. My 28 retourne black box goes with most things I wear. It does get scratched but I don't mind as I am waiting for that patina Hermesgroupie wrote about. And just yesterday I got a 28 retourne chocolate togo that I am planning to travel with. I agree that at first it took a little getting used to, but now that I have the mechanism down pat, I don't even think about it. For evenings out when I want a smaller bag I use a 25 retourne togo. My least used Kelly is a 32 sellier, but that may change now that I have gotten really hooked on using a Kelly everyday.

Mine is definitely an everyday bag. It probably helps that it's a retourne so it looks less formal, but still it's black and box. It got a new scratch on it two days after coming back from the spa, but I guess that's part of the whole ownership process.

I actually find it suits my life better than a Birkin. And I think I hardly ever use it at night, unless it's something where I go casual.

Today for example it went with me to the building site that pretends to be my house (renovatation works in progress), then to the gym, to the Prada and Miu Miu sales, the day surgery centre and finally to the gourmet store.

I got back to my temporary quarters w/ gym bag, shopping bags from Prada and Miu Miu, two panetonne (panetonni?) and some food, and was able to unload everything at one go, thanks to the shoulder strap. Could I have done the same with a Birkin? Noooo.

Whenever I can! ie: whenever I am wearing on outfit that goes well with black box, I take her out (not THAT often in Sydney Summertime!). I DO use my GP more at the moment, but I don't find the Kelly terribly inconvienient to use - it just takes time to do up the turnkey and straps at times! But as my SA says - these are bags for LADIES, we don't throw things in and run....!! LOL!! (well, I DO, but don't tell her that!).
I have to agree with your SA, something about a Kelly makes we want to dress up and be a lady. If I didn't have to carry files, yes, I would carry my Kelly right away. I had my sister model both and she definitely looked more elegant carrying my Kelly than my Birkin.

A Kelly is a ladylike bag and if you are willing to take the "little bit" of extra time when you carry it...it is a wonderfull bag for daily use. If you are a person who rushes and throws things in bags...if you aren't patient...then maybe it would be a better bag for special times or limited use.

It is a gorgeous bag to use everyday...you get adjusted to it quickly...it just takes a bit of extra time each time you want to get in and out of it. We all need to slow down in life just a tiny, don't we?

I do not have an H Kelly but I could see using it everyday if it came in a sturdy grained leather and a bright color. Especially running after toddlers, I'd be upset if I got gashes on a box leather - I can see it getting badly scraped on the ground or around the playground.

Having said that tho, you can get used to wearing a Kelly, there is something about it that just "elevates" the wearer, even if she is wiping noses or running after kids. I saw a mom at the mall and I must say I probably would not have noticed her as much if not for her LV Epi Alma in myrtille blue hanging off her stroller. She just looked completely fashionable, even if she was trying to get her kids under control. I know, it's superficial, but I couldn't help seeing it that way!

Also, will you love the Plume as much, or think of the Kelly still? After your baby is grown, you will still be able to use your Kelly. I think when it comes to Hermes, most of us think, should we be practical or indulgent?

I dont have a kelly yet... i prefer birkins for everyday since i can throw anything in them while open.. very flexible and casual.. however, im dying to get a crocodile kelly for a more formal occasions :)

I guess it depends on what Kelly you select. Since my Kelly is a black clemence Kelly with ruthenium hardware I find myself using her during the day quite a bit. I guess if she were more formal I may not reach for her as often during the day.
