Bags you don't get

I hate bugs on bags! To be fair, I have a few keychains that have bees on them, but those bees are more cartoonish and cute.

I love the Karlito charm! I find it hilarious.

Now I can't unsee that face. I knew there was a reason I didn't like this style.

I love the monster eyes. One of my big disappointments was that the Fendi shoes with the monster eyes didn't fit me.

I wanted to get Monster Eyes shoes for my entire family. But for some reason they objected. ☹️

I love a beautiful bag but I don’t get the Fendi charms at all. I prefer the bag to speak for itself.

I agree, I’m not a fan either, but I suppose when it comes to these things, especially with the humorous stuff, different things push our buttons, probably for all sorts of subconscious reasons! I don’t fully get why the monster eyes appeal to me as much as they do!

I think some bags should definitely be left alone. I don’t want to embellish my Chloé Nile with monogram/initial charms, I think it’s beautiful for its clean lines and understatement, a lovely piece of design. I know people put a twilly on a Birkin or a Kelly at least partly to protect the handles, and I think the twilly is a pretty thing on its own, but I would personally want the pure design of the bag to carry the day in its own right.

Enjoyed reading all your "Bags I don't get" posts, you have a lovely way with words! :)

Bags I don’t get, with all due respect, contd.

Quite a lot of Gucci. Are some of these intended ironically? I mean not just the obvious ones and the ‘Guccy’ ones? I don’t know much about Gucci. If they are ironic, for me they’re missing the mark; if they’re not, I guess I am just not responding to this aesthetic! The candy pink, the quilting, the embellishments (especially the bugs which make my flesh creep as someone else said here!) a striped webbing strap on a pink leather bag ... For me the real thing, quality aside, obviously, doesn’t look a whole lot better than the fake (hypocritical again, I am not averse to embellishments on other bags ...). Still not my style, but Gucci looks so much better to me in a plain classic style with bamboo handle or similar. Though to me it still feels dated rather than timeless. Showing my age again.

Just not for me. I am happy to be re-educated by those out there who love them.

Reactions: Addicted to bags
In general, I like backpack handbags; I love being hands free and it saves my back. I got into them the very first time they were introduced. I had two that I loved and wore to pieces and that's because they had a hidden pocket where I could stash my wallet. Then I had two that wouldn't stay closed and lacked that feature; they were a pickpocket's dream: . Fast forward to the present time and current incarnations. You think that since some designers were around the first time, they'd design a more secure version? Nope. Can you imagine carrying a $2500 LV Sorbonne backpack with an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy in that back pocket? Really? There's no hidden pocket. Love the design, but it's a purse, OK? Meant to carry cash, credit cards, phone. (Yes, I know people still use Apple Pay, etc, they still carry other things.) The irony is that you can find $30 bags with the same security!

Hahaha! That would have been so cool! The whole family with those shoes! Where I live, I've not seen one soul with Fendi monster anything, but random people recognize it and comment how they love it.

Once, I bought a monster tote bag for my DD, and then wanted one for myself so I got one for me! I still want a fendi monster Peekaboo, but I usually end up getting something else. Maybe one day...:oh:

Very good point! I always used to have backpacks too, to go hands-free, keep the load even and save my back (though these days my back’s got stiffer and I find the putting on and taking off of a backpack more challenging!). I had a couple of very nice Bally ones which had good concealed pockets worn against the back for the things that needed security. Not ideal carrying a luxe backpack (potentially advertising your spending power) then placing your cards, cash and driving licence conveniently in a thief-friendly compartment. So frustrating when you see a beautiful bag that would be perfect except for this obvious impracticality.

I wanted to get a monster backpack for my husband but I can’t persuade him that it’s worthwhile paying more than £30 for a backpack!

I shall put on my enabler’s hat now. Get a monster Peekaboo before they suddenly decide to stop making them! I have the one with the yellow eyes inside, and will love my angry bag forever. It cheers me up so much. You can hide the eyes and still look like a grown-up with your sleek and beautiful bag whenever they’re not appropriate, but they inject a dose of irreverence and lighten your mood when you reach into the bag and get a glimpse. As far as I’m concerned it’s the perfect balance of subtlety and complete hilariousness ;)

I agree! Whether people know it or not, when I carry my tote, i feel edgy and a little like i really don't care what you think kind of way. I'm actually very sweet( lol Hahahahaha ) and quiet, so i like the image it portrays. And like you said, i wear the tote backwards if i dont want anyone to know, and it becomes an inconspicuous average joe bag.

I am sure you are very sweet indeed! [emoji6]

I know where you’re coming from! People think I’m very serious ... I like carrying that little bit of not-so-serious around with me because that’s who I am really. [emoji23]

I love this image of sweet little Sunshine Mama with her secret monster eyes ...

I’ll post this in ‘Handbags you don’t get’ and ‘Just because it’s designer doesn’t mean it’s good!’

Ladies, my brief adventure on TPF (my first on social media!) has been great fun! I came to TPF looking for handbag care advice, and quite unexpectedly (yes, I admit I’ve been living in an analogue world ... ) found a social network of lively and positive ladies from all over the world, debating social phenomena, joking, sharing experience, insight and support, in some quite profound ways, though most importantly, of course, concerning that very significant part of our lives ... handbags.

I’m deleting my account shortly (if that’s possible — otherwise I’ll just stop posting and reading) because my efforts to share my experience as a buyer and seller, and hopefully offer a bit of help, on the Vestiaire Collective experiences thread seem suddenly to have drawn a little bit of unpleasant negative almost-trolling (a couple of people have missed the fact that the thread is VC experiences, not just VC complaints — they seem to think VC has planted me [emoji849] — Ive got to say, they haven’t done a very good job if they planted me there; I’ve spent a lot of time rolling my eyes about them and hoping to help people maintain a realistic view and sort out problems).

Well, I can do without that. I’ve not been well for a while (nothing too serious) so I have had time on my hands to read and post, and it has been super.

It’s been lovely sharing with you, and I have GREATLY enjoyed all your lovely and sometimes wicked wit! It has brightened many days recently. I wish you all well!

I've never read any of your VC comments but I'm sorry your finding the nasty ones unpleasant. Sometimes people misread or misunderstand and wrongly go on the attack. Speaking for all the sane and polite members on here I'm sorry to hear this and sorry to hear you've made the decision to leave. Best of luck and I hope you feel better!! :hugs:
