It kinda reminds me of a pig's snout. :D

Me too. I get it’s a matter of taste. I’ve actually got a Pierce clutch but the pierce bit is is a corner so it comes over a little different. Unfortunately, for me, every time I time I see this type, I have an earworm for the next few days ...

And there in the wood
A piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose
His nose ...
His nose ...
With a ring at the end of his nose ...

Bags I don’t get, with all due respect, contd .

Most Chanel, and anything matelassé. At best they come across to me as granny-ish. The quilting reminds me of nothing so much as my granny’s old bedspreads or dressing gowns, and the navy blue quilted anoraks which seemed to be the ONLY garments of that type anybody ever wore in the UK in the 60s and early 70s (showing my age). A bit John Noakes on Blue Peter, for those of you who get the reference (no disrespect to the lovely John Noakes, great chap, and no reason why he should be or would want to be a style icon; he was an icon of a more important type!).

Quite a lot of Gucci. Are some of these intended ironically? I mean not just the obvious ones and the ‘Guccy’ ones? I don’t know much about Gucci. If they are ironic, for me they’re missing the mark; if they’re not, I guess I am just not responding to this aesthetic! The candy pink, the quilting, the embellishments (especially the bugs which make my flesh creep as someone else said here!) a striped webbing strap on a pink leather bag ... For me the real thing, quality aside, obviously, doesn’t look a whole lot better than the fake (hypocritical again, I am not averse to embellishments on other bags ...). Still not my style, but Gucci looks so much better to me in a plain classic style with bamboo handle or similar. Though to me it still feels dated rather than timeless. Showing my age again.

Just not for me. I am happy to be re-educated by those out there who love them.

Bags I don’t get, with all due respect, contd.

Anything shaggy or furry. Fringes are ok, fuzziness is not. I just can’t escape the feeling that’s going to pick up all the grime and grot from anywhere you take it and will be grubby and yucky in no time. Like an ill-kept beard with bits of food in it ... This also applies to furry bag bug charms. Not a fan of fluffy sweaters either. Apologies to those of you who love them. I was raised by a hygiene obsessive and have been conditioned this way ... . I probably need therapy.

Too much LOGO!!! Anything where the logo is the most prominent part of the design. I’d feel like I had a big brand label sewn on to me. I am not an advertising space and I don’t want to pay someone a fortune for the privilege of being one! Possible hypocrisy involved again here too because Fendi monster eyes are clearly recognisable and I love them; they’re not a logo but they come close. Definitely not a fan of the enormous number of huge logos being pushed at us on bags, clothes and shoes at the moment, though. I am happy to pay for quality, design and to a certain extent wit and irony (in which area we all respond differently) but I don’t particularly want to advertise my brand loyalty or spending habits. I don’t really include the coated canvas monogram prints in this; they’re not for me, but I kind of see how they could be a neutral.

Combining elements of both the above, Karlito on anything, especially the furry charm version. No. I once bumped into Karl Lagerfeld. He’s a great designer. But he’s not cute. And I really don’t find the charms cute.

Bags I have quite liked until I realised I can’t get a thing in them:

Anya Hindmarch crisp packet. I find it entertainingly amusing (if a bit daft of me) ... Got a gold one, found I couldn’t shut it with my phone in it. Not a lot of use. Am I doing something wrong?

Charlotte Olympia Pandora clutch. So pretty, a little impractical without a chain, but still lovely (as long as it doesn’t have the spider clasp, can’t do bugs!) ... But why is the pouch SO much smaller than the box? Even allowing for the hinges? I can’t get anything I need in it. Reduced to looking for a replacement larger pouch (impossible search) or making one myself. Does anyone know where you can find one?

Bag I didn’t get till I got my hands on it:

Chloé Nile. I’ve never really liked the saddle shape of lots of Chloé bags (they remind me too much of all the bags in touristy gift shops in holiday resorts in Spain when I was a kid in the 70s) but I was converted by the Nile, it’s just so pretty but understated and really quite robust, practical and versatile in the medium size.

And finally, to balance my previous posts ...

Bags I just love unambiguously, and possibly hypocritically considering my objections to other bags, and I’m sure they will feature or have featured in this thread as bags other people don’t get:

Fendi Petite 2Jours with monster eyes and Peekaboo with monster eyes on the inside. Just really silly and I’m sure it divides opinion, and heaven only knows why I like the monster eyes when I don’t really take to the Anya Hindmarch googly eyes, and I can’t bear the Céline Luggage and Phantom ... I think maybe it’s partly because the monster eyes are a bit sleeker and more streamlined, and some of them don’t really hit you at first glance, and they sort of emerge from the background or you just get a glimpse of them on the inside of the Peekaboo. I think this might reveal something about my personality ... I think I like them because they look a bit cross.

As you can tell I have put some serious thought into this.

Now I should really get a life.

I agree with you! But I do actually like the deflated quilted bags and chevron quilted bags. I guess I am in the minority. But at the same time, I do like it when certain people carry it, especially when the color and the design go with the outfit.

Absolutely, it’s horses for courses, some people can really carry those bags off. There are plenty of people who love them and they’ve all got good reasons. They’re just wrong for me and I have associations I can’t put from my mind. And also I’m not ruling out that I might have an epiphany with just about any style you could mention and do a complete U-turn. It’s happened before!

I hate bugs on bags! To be fair, I have a few keychains that have bees on them, but those bees are more cartoonish and cute.

I love the Karlito charm! I find it hilarious.

The Céline Luggage and Phantom. As suggested by previous posters. Fine until you’ve registered the front as a face, after that you can’t ever unsee it. Hypocritical of me considering I come over all lovey-dovey about Fendi monster eyes ...

Now I can't unsee that face. I knew there was a reason I didn't like this style.

I love the monster eyes. One of my big disappointments was that the Fendi shoes with the monster eyes didn't fit me.
