Bag Insults - Ever Had One?

Well, thrift is considered a virtue especially in a recession, and it is a taboo to insult the less-heeled (but more socially acceptable the other way round)... so it is open season in a recession for people who can afford to carry designer gds (either by earning power or gd deals).
People have to spend money to get out of the recession... :p AND when you get a great deal on a bag, you are being thrifty... and just think... your "expensive' bag is going to last much longer than any fake bag!

I've had people try to pry out of me what I spend on clothes and bags. I don't wear a lot of branded goods and I mix high street stuff with more expensive pieces. I've had co-workers question me on where I got certain items or they will say "that looks expensive" and I simply say, "got it on ebay". They don't know what to say then, because they don't know if it is new or pre-owned. Shuts them up quick.

 I say the same thing!
Well I don't know if this is considered an insult or not but lately I've been bothered by my MIL's comments about bags, etc....she likes designer stuff but was saying in one of our conversations that she wouldn't spend too much on a bag (like she'd rather spend them on jewelry, or other things that hold up in value more) in a very 'preaching' tone...sort of like silently making me get the hidden meaning in what she was saying. She was even at this point where she was saying "I don't like Chanel bags, etc it's not my taste blah blah blah" fully knowing that I DO like Chanel bags, etc. I just kept silent.

Just yesterday though, she was carrying a black medium/jumbo flap bag and was prancing in front of me with it. So what happened to your dislike for Chanel? I feel like she bought that bag just to hit a nerve or something lol. Well, my mind was flicking my well-manicured middle finger at her as she was doing that lol.

Love this!! :ghi5:

Somebody told me that my bag (LV Neverfull) was so beautiful that he (he's bisexual) wanted to pour coffee on it :wtf:

Wow!! Rude much?! Sounds more like a back handed compliment. :push:

I've never been insulted about my bags openly by strangers on the street. However, I've had some a few friends pause with shock and raise their eyebrows when I tell them what I've purchased. I know it's not an insult per se, but it feels like one, because it feels like I'm being judged on my choice to spend money on myself. Then I feel the need to defend my choice to spend X amount on a purse, which makes me annoyed and sometimes even upset.

One of my friends who did this to me got married recently - she spent a tonne on her wedding and honeymoon, and I kept my mouth shut and even supported her about it because she was so happy. ARGH. Anyhow, I lowered her eyebrows back down when I told her, "Well, unlike you, I'm single, and I can afford to spend this much on a purse, which is way less than a typical wedding." Zing!

The one that really bugs me is " i would never pay that sort of money for a bag"
wth! makes me wanna snap at his/her neck...like this is my money ...!!!

Agree!!! Comments like that always annoy me enormously. Had a nice one thrown at me just a few days ago:... ' I don't think it's appropriate to spend that kind of money on a bag in these times of ec. crisis...' , sigh.. And this one coming from someone that goes on a holiday at least three times a year and just spend 20.000 $ for unnescessary construction work on their house :D.

Sooooo disgusted by the comment I received today...

So I get to work and a fellow co-worker says to me, "You're gonna be proud of me! I splurged and bought a fancy handbag like you carry". Naturally I asked what kind. Her response was...

"It's a Dolce and Gabbana...I paid like $50 for it!" (Where I'm from, $50 is alot to some people)

She then continued..."I bought my daughter one just like yours with the fancy writing...a Louis Vuitton, and I also bought her a Coach!". Ummm, keep in mind that my "bag with the fancy writing" she was referring to was my AUTHENTIC LV Stephen Sprouse Grafitti Speedy that I paid around $2,000 for.

That was DEFINATELY insulting to me. I mean, I live in an area where people honestly DO think that $50 is alot to pay for a bag, and I DO only buy bags for my own personal enjoyment...not to show off or brag about how much they cost or anything...but is THIS the way I'm viewed by my coworkers??? AM I KNOWN AS THE GIRL WITH THE EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF OVER 300 KNOCK-OFF BAGS??!?!? Can they REALLY not know a thing about quality to really think that my bags are exactly the same as their $50 knock offs? WOW...

It's one thing to talk about purses like we do here, but anyone who takes the time to insult another woman's handbag obviously has too much time on their hands!

I agree, they are obviously just jealous and have nothing better to do than to comment and attempt to put others' down for their handbags. That's obviously not my problem :D

A co-worker told me right in my face that she finds me materialistic as she cant stand me changing my handbags every few days. I told her...the term materialistic is meant for people who loves branded things/finer things but could not afford it and try ways to buy them. I appreciate the finer things in life and sweety since I can afford it..why not?

One of my co-workers said pretty much the same thing one day... Know what I did??? Purchased 19 different handbags in ONE month and started changing them DAILY!!! Her comment further fueled my drive, and my boyfriend even egged me on. He said to me,"You love your bags and if you have the option to change them every single day, why shouldn't you? You're not bothering or harming anyone, and if anyone does say something about it, they're just jealous!". FYI...I LOVE my boyfriend! He fully supports my habit, and knows more about bags than most women because of me. It's funny...we were at the mall once, and he taps my arm and goes, "OMG did you see that woman's ugly fake Chanel? It's like Chanel in the body with like a Coach closure". I just smiled because I obviously I taught him well :) <333

Just a quick rant: I've learned that everyone has their "thing" that they would spend a boat full of money on. My Dad has two $3500.00 fishing reels, my husband has three BBQ's that cost between $700.00 and $2500.00, and my Mom just bought her third sewing machine that I could have purchased a Hermes bag with if she'd given me the money instead! Why a person would need more than one fishing reel/BBQ/sewing machine that cost as much is beyond me... and I get that my needing more than one bag is probably beyond you! Just leave me alone, at least I carry my bags on a daily basis and I bet you cant say the same for your reels or BBQ's!

I use a BV ball bag and an older lady in my office comments, "now that is a useful inexpensive every day my kind of bag." another person in my office uses a mulberry bag and the older lady then states, "only she uses designer fancy stuff. You are like me plain and practical.". I was so offended. if she only knew!!!!!
