Bag Insults - Ever Had One?

I was wearing a Special Order Belen Echandia Love Me Midi (that I paid ALOT for!) and, without asking her opinion, a co-worker told me it looked like a bag from Marshall's and said "I hope you didn't pay over $30 for it!"
OMG!
So I just smiled (cursing under my breath) and said "don't worry. I didn't...."!
I don't like co-workers thinking I pay alot for bags anyway....
RUDE!

I got another bag insult today but it wasn't just the bag, it was my entire attire. I was in a tram with my gay friend and I was wearing a tutu-looking skirt with platformed high heels shoes (with black tights), motorcycle jacket, chunky watch and my Marc Jacobs Bruna bag. A bunch of school girls (teenagers) looked at me and one of them said to her friend, "She looks so kitschy", and I turned to my gay friend, who is actually *****ier, and said, "For someone who's carrying a backpack and wearing a pair of ugly sneakers, of course I look kitschy". My gay friend started laughing uncontrollably. It felt so darn good!

Funny enough I've never been accused to spending too much on a handbag. But the one time I was insulted was apparently not spending enough!

I was sitting in a cafe waiting for my friend and two ladies in the next table over were leering at my bag. I thought they liked the bag but then I heard one of them whisper to the other, "Coach bags are so welfare." Then sat there giggling about it while I pretended not to hear. So rude!

WOW. That is beyond rude. Some people are ridiculously unbelievable.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. And do I know that feeling with Belen Echandia. I had a couple people comment that my BE looked like I purchased it from Marshall's. But it was in a different context then your situation. I had asked them if they liked my bag looking for their opinion. And they replied the Marshall's comment (in a nice way) and hoping I didn't spend a lot for it. I don't mind when someone tells me their honest opinion if I asked for it.;)

Anyway - that's a bummer after you paid so much for. And what's interesting is in the past I've actually bought bags from Marshall's where I've received many compliment's. Go figure!

I did learn my lesson though on where to buy handbags going forward. lol

My co-worker (who really dislikes me) told me my Mulberry Alexa looked like a bus drivers bag! She means the ones sometimes worn cross body that they keep for change.. Really ticked me off, but a woman who wears £30 pleather bags clearly has no taste anyway!

You could say, hey I may look kitschy, but at least I'm not acting *****y

haha

It pisses me off when people being nosy and draw so much attention and make such a big fuss about the price of my bags, clothes etc with hidden judgemental tone. So if people who I don't know too well and seem like they don't know care much about fashion ask about my stuff I tend to lie lie and lie I'm so good at lying about my stuff now that it just comes out naturally. Luckily most of my stuff are not that recognizable but when it is like Chanel I even lie that it's fake just to shut some people up.

I have an Ignes bag and for some reason people would be shocked at the price tag (they'll ask me) and ask why I did not just pay for a branded one that's recognisable. That's an insult to my poor lovely bag (not to me) because it is beautiful.

I don't have recognisable luxury brand bags because admittedly, I think they are rather boring (they are everywhere...) Plus strangers judge you immediately because their prices are so well-known and established. I would know as I'm one of them, and it's not even something that's consciously done.

It's really part of our psych to immediately categorise people, and bags aid in such opinions. Much more than cars, because cars are seen as having a return on them while bags not so much to one not interested in them. More variety of bags help form opinions more so than one car. Unless it's the high-end luxury cars, obviously.

Thing is, there ARE people who buy luxury bags (fake or otherwise) to show off. Adding comments like "well, you can't afford it" is just adding on to that perception regardless of whether it truly applies to you. Why fight rudeness with passive-aggressive behaviour such as this?

And there are also people who don't really care about bags. Any sort of comments that goes against one's personal belief is always tinted and can be seen as an insult. Why not take it as their opinion? Like all the others' opinions on here regarding bags.

I can understand the perception of spending such large amounts of money on a BAG as an insult to their sensibilities, especially to the older generation who have lived through different times and are also less prone to being politically correct. If the person is younger, then just ignore? Why bother. If they're being annoying for no reason, all the more to ignore.

On a REAL insult: I have a friend who wanted a LV bag the other day and she dragged me into the boutique. She asked for my opinion and I said I thought that monograms are really ugly without hesitation. Mind though, that I have said numerous times before that I'm unable to appreciate LV bags and think them ugly, and she knows it. We're friends for long enough, plus she asked for it.

thankfully, my fiance supports and understands my love of purses. He just bought me a beauuutiful balenciaga city! but i feel the most critizized when i wear my mono LV or my chanel shopping bag with large white CCs... Lots of envious glares. Ugh. Why can't evryone else understand that QUALITY is something that can be valued in handbags too, not just cars or ect.
I'm also a big fan of, "if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all!"

Yes, that is very rude. I hope you still enjoy your bag, despite her comments.

I've had people try to pry out of me what I spend on clothes and bags. I don't wear a lot of branded goods and I mix high street stuff with more expensive pieces. I've had co-workers question me on where I got certain items or they will say "that looks expensive" and I simply say, "got it on ebay". They don't know what to say then, because they don't know if it is new or pre-owned. Shuts them up quick.
