i made an offer and it was accepted. i see variations on the trademark or i am not sure what mark it is really. the one with a star and 170, most love rings I checked, have a rectangular or triangular mark different to this one, which is straight vs turned on the other rings. but i do see some love rings with the same stamps as this one, so just figured out like tiffany, cartier changes the markings. would it depend purely on the time the ring was made or does it have anything to do with which country it was made for (cannot imagine... but dont really know). i did try to google it but not much success. thank you for your time , knowledge and willingness to help!

I did some research and it is actually * 1 TO, not 170, just a Cartier hallmark variation. For limited edition, they will mark 170/200, meaning 170th out of 200.

When you said thicker, i thought you meant wider! Sorry for the confusion.....the pics surely helped!

It definitely appears authentic to me.

The hallmarks appear correct, they are in the right font and contain appropriate symbols (country hallmark, fineness, size, serial, cartier). Even the way the name "cartier' is engraved is consistent, a detail most counterfeiters would overlook. Also, from one close up frontal photo you can see small little engraved ridges inside the space between the screw and the outer circle, a feature on all authentic love bracelets/rings (which makes it reflect light in a unique way). I have never seen this feature on a fake Love item.

In regards to the "missing" copyright symbol, there seems to have been a time where Cartier did not hallmark either the Love bracelet or the ring, c. 80s-early 90s.

I would explain the greater "thickness" of the ring in two ways. One, because the ring is in such a small size, it makes it appear thicker than it really is. 2, designers sometimes change styles slightly, and with gold becoming more scarce, I have noticed with some brands (particularly Tiffany's), they tend to make designs weigh slightly less over time.

Also the seller, Raymond Lee Jewelers, is a very reputable jeweler in the Boca Raton area of Florida.

OMG, radioshrink, thank you SO SO much!!! I am so relieved! I actually love the thickness of it compared to the current version! Sounds like it's a pretty old piece - I know I overpaid for this (when comparing prices of other sold ones on ebay) but it's so hard for me to find this tiny size! I also know RLJ is a reputable reseller in FL but they did get some dings in their feedback which caused me some concern. I wish it came with the authenticity cert but if it is dated back in the 80s-90s, I guess it's understandable that it's gone. One thing I forgot to mention, I had another jeweler look at it and he said he wasn't sure of its authenticity but said the screws were carved a little sloppily. I asked what he meant by that and he said the area between the edge of the ring to the circle of the screw was not identical for all the screws. In other words, some screws were just the tiniest bit closer to the edge than others. I can hardly tell and he had to use his magnifier to see it. Would that concern you? Thanks SO much again! I think I can sleep tonight! :p

Hi, the hallmark that you describe (the 1TO) does indeed confirm the country it was made in. The 1TO specifically means it was made by the first registered jewelry atelier in the province of Turin (Torino). Cartier currently has many slight variations of hallmarks on the love rings (and of course other jewels). They hallmarks vary by where the jewel has been made - they have jewelry workshops in Italy, France, Switzerland, and the US I believe....at least according to the different hallmarks I have seen. They halllmark also vary by when they were made. HTH

Also, I posted this Cartier bracelet a few pages back, I wondered if anyone else could say for sure whether it's authentic or not, since doing more research and comparing it to my mothers, I have a bad feeling about it and the price has sky rocketed

Both are fakes. The hallmarks are the give-away. While mimicking the hallmarks that can be found on current versions of the Love bracelet, they are not in the same scale, and do not have the same fineness of stamping as the real love bracelets do. Also all current hallmarks on the love bracelet are blackened on the inside of them, the hallmarks on these bracelets are not. While CRD is a valid serial code beginning on Cartier items, they bracelets both happen to have the same serial number, another DEAD GIVEAWAY. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!
