I saw that. Catbird9's question was kind of a two-parter and my answer referred to the second part where she asked about the break in the border that was shown in "other J4C creeds" that she has pictures of. Most GENUINE J4C- creeds WILL have a gap in the border in the upper right corner. I Bolded it in her quote when I replied to her, "Click to Expand".) I didn't need to comment about the other creed and serial problems since that had already been covered.

Well, here’s another J4C....I’ve never seen this bag...boy is it cute!! ??FAKE????? Thank you?

It looks like one of the original Penny Bags and was probably made some time between the mid-70s and 1980. The original ones with the strap grommet on the side of the bag and with the thin double strap aren't seen very often.

There was a long-running on and off discussion stretching over several months at the Vintage Chat forum over at the main Coach page that might give you more details and information. Look for posts mentioning the Penny and the Dinky. Starts here:

You may even want to post photos of your bag there, or post a link there back to your post here using this URL which will take them directly to your photos here:

It's a style that sparks some interesting discussions and research. Nice find! (You might even ask for advice on removing the verdigris, that green discoloration on the leather around the metal hardware.)

I bought this from Sears online and paid $215. Then I tried to tell it to a clothing store and they said it wasnt authentic!

Coach Women's Signature Prairie Satchel, Silver/Black Smoke 36311-SVDK6

Condition: New
Sold by All Glitters

I don't see any obvious problems with it, but other opinions are welcome. Did they say why they thought it was fake?

And when did Sears start selling Coach? I've never heard of that before. When did you buy it?

ETA - Never mind, I think I found it. Was this the seller at Sears online? I didn't know they did that.

Well hell! Shoulda left it where I found it. lol, thanks always hyacinth.

Any time you see those indentations for the prongs on the back plate of a handbag's turnlock, put it down and walk away, or hit the Back button. Those were never original equipment on purses.

Indented turnlocks WERE used on briefcases starting in 1996. And some aftermarket companies who sold replacement hardware to fit Coaches also used indented turnlocks, so they're not always an absolute sign of a fake. If you can't authenticate one of them before you buy, leave it there and don't take the chance.

I will definitely look harder at the details next time!

I agree with Hyacinth. That bag is authentic.

Count me as another who didn't know Sears was selling Coach!

Can anyone help me authenticate this Coach vintage black leather backpack, please? I purchased it already, on Poshmark, and waiting for it to arrive. The photo of the creed is very blurry, but it looks like it reads "9960". Btw, if there aren't enough photos, or they're too blurry, I would be happy to post more photos when it arrives (should be tomorrow). Here is the link:

Thank you in advance!

I got this, I've seen online these came with a pouch/wristlet with a logo. This one didn't have that. Looks good, real or ?
