For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Wow the newbies really don't read much on how to request an Authentication, do they?!

From now on, I'm not going to authenticate unless they read Post Number One and follow the directions.

This is just my personal reply, other authenticators can do whatever they feel is best.
Directions for requesting an authentication can be found in Post Number One of this thread. Please read them and follow the required format. Thank you.

Can anyone help me authenticate this Coach vintage black leather backpack, please? I purchased it already, on Poshmark, and waiting for it to arrive. The photo of the creed is very blurry, but it looks like it reads "9960". Btw, if there aren't enough photos, or they're too blurry, I would be happy to post more photos when it arrives (should be tomorrow). Here is the link:

Thank you in advance!

Please take a clear readable picture of the creed when you get the bag, and refer back to your original post with the link to the PM listing by using the "REPLY" button in that post. There are several codes in the serial number we really need to see that aren't readable in the seller's photos. Thanks.

I apologize if my request was not in proper format. I am not a newbie, but I haven't requested help authenticating very often. I did read Post #1 but do not know the actual name of the item, other than "Coach leather vintage backpack". Since it's not listed on an auction site, I only included a link to the item. The 3 photos associated with the item are not that great, so I removed them (after attaching them) because I didn't think they would be helpful. Again, I'm sorry if it was done incorrectly and I understand if it's too difficult to authenticate (or you prefer not to).

You may have missed my reply, it's right above your latest post.

I didn't say anything about your post not being in the correct format, and we never demand that the poster include the "actual name of the item". All I need is a decent photo of the creed and serial number when you receive the bag.

Thank you! I will do that as soon as I receive the bag.

I'm with you!

Generally, I'm more lenient with newbies because navigating this place is like trying to teach a millenial to read a paper map but there are too many posters who've been around a while and have been referred to post 1, page 1 and STILL don't post correctly or completely.

What did I do wrong not to get a reply?
Both Hyacinth and I responded a page or so ago (yesterday):
I don't see any obvious problems with it, but other opinions are welcome. Did they say why they thought it was fake?

And when did Sears start selling Coach? I've never heard of that before. When did you buy it?

ETA - Never mind, I think I found it. Was this the seller at Sears online? I didn't know they did that.

I agree with Hyacinth. That bag is authentic.

Count me as another who didn't know Sears was selling Coach!

Yes that's the seller: All that glitters. They said it was fake because the thread lines aren't even on each side. And on those thread lines the C's should be mirrored ( I don't know the right terminology ) but all of what they said is shown on the bag on the coach site. And one last thing, I can't remember which part but something was supposed to be stitched and they said it's glued. But they also kept saying they could be wrong.

THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CLUELESS PEOPLE LIKE THAT STORE'S PERSONNEL READ AND BELIEVE THOSE USELES "AUTHENTICITY GUIDES" because that's where almost all of this BS comes from !!!

Sometimes thread lines AREN'T even. Sewing machine operators are people, and people aren't perfect.

And I have NO idea what "glued instead of stitched" could possibly refer to.

I hope you scratch that store off your list because if they believe the BS they told you, they probably believe that YXX zippers prove a bag is genuine. Their inventory is probably oveflowing with fakes that followed some nitwit guide writer's "rules".

Often the Cs along the side seams CAN'T be mirrored because the seams are curved. And specifications for bags made for the outlets are a bit looser than the ones made for the full-price stores.

What did I do wrong not to get a reply?

Please look a bit more carefully next time.

And if you haven't already set your Account preferences, I suggest you do it now. There is a large list of actions you can be alerted to in a "flag" near the upper right corner of every page, check the "alert preferences" section. You can get an alert and go to a clickable list any time someone replies to one of your posts or mentions you in a post.
