SOOOO Interesting, and Thank you again Hyacinth! I did read the Salearea guide...(I even printed it!) but just missed the part about the letter code..ah, back to reread! (I’m blaming my cold for slowing down my brain!) The bag I have is at least 10years old, obtained when I knew nothing about authenticating; but after lurking here and the Vintage forum, I did know that that the elephant skin, the mismatched hardware on the snaps, and ESPECIALLY the wrong buckles on the back of the bag...the backpack part (squared off rather than rounded) were red flags!
The Ebay one scared me because of the wonky font size; seemed to be all different....arrggh!
Now, of course, I’ll need to get all my bags down (at least 10-15) and research them...wonder how many fakes I DO have
You guys are just fabulous and your time on this is just so appreciated!

Hi all! I recently picked up this bag from an antique joint for cheap. Would love to figure out if it's real or not. Don't have the exact dimensions, but I've already dunked the bag and it's drying at home. I can add those later tonight. The tag is tough to read due to how dirty the inside of the bag was.

Item Name: Binocular bag

It's a genuine Binocular Bag, style 9853, made in 1990 or 1991.

I have doubts, flea market find. Actually was sold as a "folk art piece" and had flowers and biblical verses painted on it.

Unfortunately, it's fake.

The indentations on the back of the turnlock are wrong, and J8H- is a known always-fake serial number prefix never used by Coach. The "H" in the serial number also would have been in a different size font from the rest of the serial number in a genuine Coach. And looking at the one end of the dowel that's in your pictures, the dowel is too short and looks like the end is just painted wood instead of covered with leather like it should be.

If you go to the "SEARCH FORUMS" link near the top of each page, enter J8H on the "keywords" line, scroll down a bit and select "COACH" in the "Contemporary designers" category of the dropdown menu and run the search, it should give 9 pages of results going back to 2007. Try it.

Looking for authentication, please, and full style name. I think it’s a patent Peyton of some sort? The number on the creed is B1269-19755M. Do the marks look like ink? How best to remove?

They both look fine.

Removing stains from Patent leathers and fabrics is very hard, and ink is just about the hardest no matter what kind of material it's on. Search the main Coach forum under Coach Clubhouse - Rehab and Rescue for advice on removing ink marks, but be warned that you may just have to live with them.

The top one is a Peyton Patent Hobo from 2012, the second is probably a Kristen Op Art Pleated Satchel from 2010.

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller:
    Link:
    Comments:

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.

  • Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests should be posted in this thread.
