Hi all,

I bought this cute coach hangbag at a secondhand store called Fabrics & More in the Netherlands for about 50 euros. The stiching is consistent and the leather feels genuine. My only conern is that the serial number is 005-3103, while it has the correct format of xxx-xxxx, I read online that it should start with a letter. Hopefully you can help me authenticate the bag and if you know when it was produced. Many thanks!

Please don't depend on anonymous "Rules" you find on the internet. See the six Salearea Coach Guides posted here that I wrote 10 years ago and have updated since then:

I suggest reading the entire thread.

Serial numbers in bags made before 1994 should NOT start with a letter. This one is genuine and was made inthe late 1980s or possibly the early 1990s. We can't identify the styke without measurements

Hello friends, I appreciate this sub-forum particularly!

If you could please have a look at this one:
Item: Coach City Bag 9790 Mahogany
Listing number: 1154373934
Seller and site where listed: novellousnovelties, Etsy
Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1154373934/coach-brown-flap-city-crossbody-bag-9790

Creed photo: https://i.etsystatic.com/8761459/r/il/b5251e/3627861814/il_1140xN.3627861814_ky28.jpg

Comments: Serial J8N-9790 (Outlet stamp?)
Made in Mexico. It looks like someone poked an extra hole in the strap (pic 6).

Thank you in advance!
Oh well, it looks like it is either sold now or taken down.

And can we please add a requirement for a readable copy of the creed and serial number photo, either from the seller's online listing OR the buyer's photo if no online listing is available, be posted here with all authentication requests? Please Please Please?

Thanks!

The AT interface is being developed and I'll make sure to include this as a required field.

I've been lurking for a while and admiring the amazing information on here.
Just wanted to say thanks.
There was a Willis I saw on Mercari, but as a Canadian, I couldn't set up an account. Are there any truly reputable sites, or are they hit and miss?

1- genuine Soho Bag style number 4082 from the Lightweight line and made between 1991 and 1994. It's too large for a Lafayette Bag.

2- Genuine Watson Bag from 1995

Here's a Soho Bag 4082 from a 1992 catalog:

Excellent! I did think the Lafayette was too small from pictures I could find online so thank you for confirming AND providing the catalog photo, I clearly have the 'cocoa' color - this is so helpful, thank you! I am now looking forward to cleaning her up just a bit and enjoying this one. The size is fantastic and I was planning on taking her on my next trip to travel in style.

Hi, I apologize if this isn't enough information. What a great resource this site is! This is a bag that was donated to our organization. I 'think' it's the Coach Park Leather Bag in Red made for Dillards but I'm thrown off by the inner tag having no serial number and the similar bags online seem to be more of a pebble leather than saffiano. It measures approximately 18"W x 9"H x 6"D.

OUCH. Just looking at that lining gives me a headache.

The lining is an obvious problem. AFAIK, Coach NEVER used that tan lettering on a black background in ANY genuine Coach. It's only found in fakes (That same tan lettering on brown or dark blue backgrounds are also signs of possible fakes). The creed is badly stamped, what's pretending to be a serial number "P4525" is in an invalid format, missing all the production codes and in the wrong place. The word "ENOURING" in the creed is misspelled and several punctuation marks, periods, are missing. Genuine Coaches with long woven straps should NEVER have the Coach name or logo woven into the strap material, and the C pattern isn't correctly centered on the outside, that's USUALLY a red flag but there are dozens of exceptions.

The second-most obvious problem is that in genuine Coach bags, when the majority of the outside fabric consists of any Coach "C" or logo pattern, the lining should NEVER be a "C" or logo pattern of any kind.

If possible, you should try and get your money back. And if you're going to re-sell the others, you should NOT put them up for sale unless you authenticate them here first! Selling counterfeit brand name items in the US is a felony and illegal in much of the rest of the world as well.

Thank you so, so much Hyacinth! I appreciate you and your knowledge. I won't be able to get my money back but the information you've provided is worth far more than what I paid for the bag. I will definitely put it to good use the next time I'm looking to purchase a Coach bag. Thank you again and take care!
