Read the six Salearea Coach Guides, the link is pinned to the top of every Authenticate This Coach thread that has an index. Read the Daria48 Fake Numbers list that's part of the same thread too. One of the reasons I wrote the Guides was so we don't have to answer the same questions over and over and over again, all the answers are in one place. The first 13 posts are mostly background and the links probably aren't working.

oh noooo, I had hoped never to be deserving of this direction twice, so sorry! I have pored over the guides, i guess i don't understand it well. thanks again for evaluating these things, I am excited to learn and will hopefully get better at it! :P

My first try, I hope I won't mess this up.

Item: Coach Binocular
Listing number: Not found
Site: Etsy link
Seller: vintagecoach4less

Comments: Found the catalog section (thanks sallellen) and this bag caught my eye on a 90s one, the color burgundy was available at the time and I searched for one, found this purple instead in Etsy. Not sure the condition being dyed is worth that much, but more important is it real? Seller has a lot of good ratings, but everyone makes mistakes and I do not want my first vintage buy to be one. Thank you for your time and help.

Hi @Crystal2022

Welcome to TPF. I want to let you know that you aren't being ignored, but because some sites and sellers have been and have caused problems (various issues) and because authenticators on TPF are volunteers, we may choose not to authenticate items.

The Etsy seller whose listing you've asked about is the same person as the Ebay seller about whom @Hyacinth posted 2 nights ago. Her post below has links to a few examples of why we skip requests involving that seller.

The seller's ID is actually RESALEDEALS4YOU

That's VERY important because - well, let's just say the seller has a history with tPF, me and other tPF members, as you would have found out if you had searched for the seller's name here on tPF.

Here are the links that best explain the problem:

I do not authenticate any items from that seller " RESALEDEALS4YOU " under any of the multiple IDs he uses, on Ebay, Poshmark, Mercari or any other selling site. The many reasons why can be found in those posts and others.

To just reduce the answer to your earlier question to its essence - Coach serial numbers in bags made earlier than 1994 did NOT include the style number or any other kind of production codes, they were just completely random numbers and each number should only have been used once and was unique to the bag it was stamped in.

Beginning in 1994, genuine Coach serial numbers began to include the month, year and plant codes for that specific bag, and the official Coach style number made up the second half of the serial number.

Your original question about this listing:

with the serial number "1022-239" asked " Why does the creed not say 9890?". Since the details of the serial number and creed AND the catalog dates of its listings indicate that the bag was made some time between 1990 and 1993, the serial number would NOT include the style number 9890 since Coach didn't start including style numbers as part of the serial number until 1994.

(The fakes makers made mistakes as they changed their stampings to meet Coach's new format, but Coach plants made mistakes early in the years of the new format too. But that's another story for another time.)

I hope that answers your question. Once someone has ACCURATE information concerning a Coach's creed details and serial number and if lucky, some old catalogs, they can figure out out a bag's history and usually whether or not it's genuine.

I'm hoping that one of the knowledgeable people here can tell me if this bag is authentic. I found a denim croc embossed Rhyder #34501 on ebay, and have taken some extra pictures as well. Please let me know if you need any more information. Thank you so much! :flowers:

Hi @Crystal2022

Thank you I appreciate your help. Wow! I read about this person and who is so twisted? I wrote down the names used, so I won't ever buy from him, yuk!

Also no worries... I didn't feel ignored. I totally understand you ladies do this generously sharing your time and knowledge, not taking it for granted.

Hi, Could you please authenticate these? I'd love to find a bag in a cooler brown (taupe?) but I couldn't find any color like that listed for these models in these years in a few older catalogs I had. (I'm finding it SO HARD to tell the difference between these lighter brown colors in various pics due to lighting. It's making me crazy.) Thank you so much!

Please copy the best and most readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from each listing and post them here using the "Reply" button in this post. Thank you.

Perfect! Thank you

Both are genuine. The top one, style 4143 is a Worth Bag, made in late 1995 as a 1996 Spring style, and the color might be Cappuccino. That color seems that it was only available for the Soho line as far as I can see, and only for a short time. It looks darker in the catalog photo than it does in the seller's listing but I'm not sure what else it could be. In the catalog photos it looks like a mix of Taupe and Cocoa. Here's a Back Sac in Cappuccino from the 1996 Spring catalog, click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
4134_Back Sac_1996 Spring-Cappuccino-a.jpg

The second bag is a Fletcher Bag style 4150 and made in mid-1998. There was a color called Toffee during that time period that is listed as having nickel-color hardware with Soho styles, so that might be it since the seller said the actual bag is darker than some of the photos. She doesn't say what color the hardware is. The catalog pictures showing "Toffee" on other styles don't look anything like what I would call Toffee unless the candy manufacturers are making some odd-colored sweets these days, so I can't be much help with that color.

Colors can be really hard to pin down, that's why I usually avoid any color identification questions. The non-standard colors usually were only available for a short time, and sometimes a color might have been "catalog-only" or even limited availability only in the larger stores. And catalog pictures, in fact photos in general, can be notoriously undependable in matters of color accuracy, especially the tan and brown tones.

Good luck!

Item: Burgundy Slim Satchel 9425
Where purchased or how obtained: Estate Sale
Dimensions: 13" wide x 7" high x 2.5" deep

Comments: Please offer an opinion about authenticity, thank you. The creed says that the bag was made in NYC and it has a TALON zipper. The serial number is in the xxx-xxxx format so I am guessing that it was made in the late 1970s, do you agree? Thanks for all that you do for us!

Item: Beaumont Speedy Doctor Satchel 9871 (Black Leather & Brass Hardware)
Where purchased or how obtained: Estate Sale
Dimensions: 11.5" wide x 7" tall x 5" deep

Comments: Please offer an opinion about authenticity, thank you. The serial number is a bit difficult to read so I have tried to enhance it by dusting with eyeshadow. It appears to be K8D-9871 (or K8B-9871)? I think that it is a Beaumont Satchel that was made in the US in 1998, do you agree? Thanks again!

Item: Coach Poppy "MINTY" tote
Purchased: Goodwill online
Dimensions: 12in wide, 13in Height, 5 in deep

Please offer your opinion on this bag. I purchased it from Goodwill online and it came with authentication. It appears to be a Coach bag with a valid number.
However, when I tried to find another one like it online, the only other one I could find was being listed for sale on several sites as a numbered limited edition bag. The pictures showed a bag identical to this one with the small tag under the creed label that was printed with "24 0f 25 Limited Edition". This bag has the same tag, but it is blank.
Does this mean it is a fake?
