Hi everyone! I just joined purseforum, and this is my first post. If I'm missing any information, please let me know.

I purchased this poor-condition bag, hoping to attempt my first Coach rehab on it before moving on to my nicer bags. However, now that I have inspected it more closely, it doesn't feel right. It smells and looks like leather inside, but the strap and drawstring don't feel like the leather on my other Coach bags. I'd appreciate any information on whether it is authentic or not. And if it is authentic, what model it is?

The bag itself, minus strap, is about 13" in height. The base is about 7" x 10".

You should take it back to Goodwill and get your money back, it's against Federal law for anyone in the US including non-profits to sell counterfeit merchandise. GW doesn't have a strong track record when it comes to fakes, and they sometimes use one or more paid authentication services whose track record for Coach products is just plain BAD.

I'd also suggest that you have the other "Coaches" you bought authenticated here before you list them.

We have absolutely no problems with Ebay sellers authenticating their items here, as long as they don't post links directly back to any of their own active listings. That's considered "advertising" and is against the rules. Many of our members and regular posters sell on Ebay and other auction and selling sites. We'd much rather authenticate items before they're listed or sold than to have a buyer get stuck with a fake or a seller get put on restriction or suspension by Ebay for listing one.

Note the photos I posted for comparison, if Goodwill gives you any trouble about a refund.

Thank you SO much! I’ll get the others posted here soon and then will take them back and talk to the manager. I’m there a lot and we are friendly so I’m interested to see her response. I am so glad I found this forum.

It's authentic but the leather is what Coach called "lightweight" so it won't feel the same as classic leather. It looks like a Delancey drawstring #4122, made in the early 90s. Visit the rehab club for pointers on rehabbing. I've had success on light bags like that using "zit cream" - benzoyl peroxide. It bleaches out the ink stains and marks but doesn't help with the wear.

Amazing, thank you so much for all of this great information, whateve! I've looked up the 4122 model, and it does look like my bag! This puts my mind at ease, I am grateful! I'll definitely be checking out the rehab thread, thanks for the link!

I'd appreciate if anyone is able to assist with this bag. I already purchased it and just received it today. I love the bag, but the lining feels a bit rough and the style number on the creed appears to be for a different bag when I search for it, so I'm assuming it's fake, but wanted to be sure before I request a refund. I'd love to be wrong, too.

Item: Coach tote
Seller: maidenandmarine

Comments: It's about 14" x 14" x 4.25"

Here's a pic of the creed. Let me know if you need any more that aren't in the listing.

Aright friends, I'm going to post a few bags to have looked at. There are 3 bags listed, last photo of each bag being the tag/label. This help is really appreciated and I plan on searching through the forum to learn more!

Don't panic yet. I'm also seeing those demi bags that seem to have the same style number but the creed pictures aren't clear. I don't have any similar demi hobo saved to my files so I can't tell what its style number should be but I do have #7598 saved as a retro gallery tote. No picture, but the measurements and description match the bag you got. There is an identical bag with the same creed listed on Posh as well. I believe the bag you got is authentic.

It's authentic.

We don't generally talk about price because items aren't necessarily worth a flat amount and because a seller can ask whatever amount they want, but IMO, that's a LOT of money for that bag. (As much as I like Coach, I wouldn't pay that for a Coach!) JMHO.

I'll add just a comment or two after seeing the name of the seller (who has been discussed here and in other forums because of similar pricing examples). "Rare" doesn't always mean "valuable". In some cases it just means that a style just didn't sell and Coach withdrew it from production. Maybe there were too many similar styles, or maybe something about a specific style turned out to be impractical or uncomfortable or some other issue that potential buyers couldn't deal with. For example, I don't have a lot of experience with backpacks but I'm wondering if that dowel might make the bag incomfortable to carry. Backpacks are supposed to be MORE comfortable than handbags, not less. That could be why that bag had to be marked down just to sell it, note the stamped "X" on the creed.

JMO.
LOL! Someone must be reading because after neither Hyacinth nor I thought $949.99 (on both ebay and Etsy) was a "bargain," the price on both sites has been reduced to $849.99.

To add to Hyacinth's speculation that the dowel might make for an uncomfortable backpack, I would also think that the weight of that bag might be a problem for one's back! It's not a light back when empty so I can't even imagine the discomfort on my shoulders if I carried it full.

The bag is authentic.

The demi is 7593 and sellers are misreading the style number.

Here's one with a legible creed:
