This one is iffy. I think it is probably okay. There are some problems, like the wrong lining and wrong inside zipper pull, but these mistakes might have been made. More opinions are welcome.

There aren't any other Sonoma Nubuc creeds in my files with that exact same creed stamp or serial number font. And None of them, Nubuc or otherwise, spell "distintive" without a C, not even the Nubuc creeds that have earlier dates than the bag in question. Here's one from May 1995:
1995_E-plant_Italy_E5E-4940-a.jpg

And here's a Nubuc creed from November 1995:
1995_E-plant-L5E-4941.jpg

And the bag being asked about:
1995_E-plant_H5E-4945-w misspelling, zip pull, lining-b.jpg

There are just too many mistakes and details that I can't find an exact match for anywhere else for me to be comfortable with that bag. The word "questionable" is still in my vocabulary and I'm going to use it for this one.

Thank you to both authentocators. The zipper pull was what made me question the bag originally but now I really see the font difference. I'll be recycling the leather to keep the bag out of circulation.

@Hyacinth and @whateve are considerably more skilled with Sonoma and nubuc bags than I am but some big differences (from other Italian creeds and other nubuc creeds) jumped out at me when first looked at the creed.

After seeing Hyacinth's examples of other creeds that are from both Italian AND nubuc bags, the differences are more obvious:
  • Puffy creed on bag in question vs. non-puffy on others
  • D in "distinctive" and "provide" look more like O than D
  • C in nubuc doesn't have nearly as large an opening as the comps and looks like an O
  • Round "o" in No. vs oval o on comps
  • Shorter underscore vs. longer on comps
  • "F" in finest and "R" in resistance are misshapen
  • Misspelled "distinctive" (pointed out by Hyacinth)
  • Creed is stamped slightly to the left of center
  • Obvious huge space at the bottom beneath serial number
  • Different serial font than comps

And did you notice that the ribbing in the grosgrain-type lining in that older post is horizontal, see the pic below, but in the bag that's being questioned now it's vertical?

And yes, I was probably wrong in my first response. But the zipper pull was too big a red flag to ignore. (The metal in and on both fakes looks too bright too, more gold than brass.)

And look what else I found. The first picture shows the creed from the bag in question and the comp is from a bag that was determined to be fake. The discusssion was here.

But notice the similarities -- right down to the notch on the left side of the creed!

The lining textures are both vertical in this comparison.

Hello lovely authenticators! I wanted to verify 3 bags so will post each separately over the next little while - but no rush as they are already in my possession.
This is the only recent ebay purchase I will post - I had a coupon and bonus ebay bucks offer so I pulled the trigger faster than I would have ordinarily... I thought this bag looked good based on the past information posted here, and have no reason to believe it is fake. But after the recent mentions in this thread of Willis bags being the "most counterfeited" of vintage/classic styles I wanted piece of mind

Item: Coach Willis 9927 in Gray with Nickel hardware
Listing number: 264463233629
Seller: erin8969
Link:HERE
Comments: I included a closer photo of the creed and since it wasn't in the listing, the back side of the turnlock plate. Also if the experts have the actual color name for my records it would be much appreciated (charcoal gray, just gray? etc.).

This is another style # that I read earlier that authenticators have said is at high risk of being fake, #9992. I believe I bought this over a year ago from ebay - I can't pull the seller name from there right now but if needed I can search my Paypal records to find it. Again, I have no reason to believe it is fake based on the guides posted here, but when it arrived it had a stale/perfumey smell so I was airing it out in my parents' garage and I just forgot about it. I plan to dunk it (and the grey Willis) so I can start wearing them, but before I put work in I wanted to ask

Item: Coach Drawstring Backpack with top handle, black/brass from 1996 I believe
Style # 9992
Comments: see above - can pull old seller detail if needed. Also let me know if more photos are needed.

Lastly here is the larger (non-mini) Daypack, #9791 from 2000 I believe. I bought this at a thrift store a while ago and it seemed to be ok to me. But before I bother with fixing/replacing the turnlock and rehabbing it a bit more, I wanted to ask  I really wanted this one since I have the old school brass daypack keyfob and wanted to wear them together!

I would say that the evidence is pretty solid.

But at least they spelled "distinctive" correctly, even though 2 words are hyphenated and split between two lines of text when they really shouldn't be.

I wonder if sometime after May, 1995, the counterfeiters learned that E is the Italian plant and corrected that mistake.
