Hi Everyone
This “modified” bag came up in one of my eBay searches.
Not one I will buy so no rush, but just curious. Can someone please verify if it’s authentic, and know what it’s called? TIA!

I'm anxious to hear if any authenticators know the name of this bag...sans modifications. I have this bag and posted pics in the ID thread about a month ago. Whateve said it was from the mid 60's but didn't know the name.

Thanks so much ZSP!
Just found your post #11558 and your pics, wow someone really did modify it!
Very cool bag in it's original state, lucky you.
The modifications reminds me of something my sister would've done in the '70s!

Here are two posts by RL Bernstein from the Post your vintage/classic pieces here! thread, that discuss a similar version of this Cashin design, which has a kisslock purse on the outside:

This 1963 Saks ad from the New York Times shows two examples of the style, and calls them "long over arm tote" and "wide over arm tote."

It's authentic but why would someone do that to a bag?!?!?

From the looks of it, it's a version of BC's Over Arm (Sling) Bag design, except in this variation a zippered Thompson-like shield pocket is employed rather than the more common outside coin purse (shown in the Saks advert). I you'd care to see what it (probably) looked like prior to modification, here's a link to a similar one that sold on etsy a while back...https://www.etsy.com/listing/262795275/coach-bonnie-cashin-cashin-carry-ivory

The white fabric "Cashin-Carry for COACH" label usually indicates mid-1960s.

That post from December 2015 was from the same seller. Apparently Miss Muffet didn't sell it in 2015 and still has it.

Current listing:

Yep, it's been listed by at least 2 different sellers that we know of. I thought that someone here had posted some kind of indication that it was made that way but now I can't find anything in my files. I think one of the dozens of posts about it has said that some of the buttons had been sewn on right through the lining but neither seller has shown lining pics except for the part that's near the Cashin label.

In post #5777 (below), Whateve said that "it was confirmed to have been produced that way."
