When I was in Japan (for almost 2 months) I got the perfect skin, both face and body. Of course there are many factors that contribute. 1) food, lots of fatty raw fish that means that I get all the proteins and the good oils my body needs, raw vegetables, collagen from the fresh ramen soups (not the instant), no sugar, no coffee, litres and litres of green tea.
2) Humidity. Where I live there is very low humidity all year long (under40%), and it makes my skin dehydrated, in Japan it was always soft and pink, because of the high humidity.
3) Different products and regiments. I tried all the masks, creams, serums, cleansers I could try. Whatever I read in the magazines I'd buy it and use it, and they did made a difference. I had a lot of spare time for my beauty regiment, and I was not lazy about it.
4) Stress free. Since I was for leisure there, I didn't have any stress. Big difference.
5) Different water, the water in my city has a lot of chlorine and fluoride, and it also has many minerals. It is very harsh and drying. Water in Japan is very different. Especially at the onsens , the water is incredible!
6) Sun shine. Where I live we have 300 days a year sun shine. In Japan the sun was usually covered behind clouds.

Oooo what is a 'twincake'? How does it look like? I wld love to get one:smile1:

i use luichel because they have the best colour match for my skin tone; i've also used laneige & hercyna cosmetics in the past, with good results. for me the korean cosmetics are also *much* less likely to trigger breakouts than shiseido and all the western makeup brands i've tried (clinique, estee lauder, MAC, lancôme, origins, bare escentuals).

another thing i love is the laneige eye makeup remover, which (a) actually removes all of my eye makeup and (b) doesn't sting at all . . . it also provides light amusement every time i take out the bottle because it's labeled "lip & eye remover" (^(oo)^)

My sister lives in Taiwan and every time she comes back to the states to visit, she complains about her skin breaking out. She also said it was due to the greasy American fast food...I don't know, I think it is more due to travel/stress.

Anyway, I used to use exclusively Asian brands (Shiseido, SKII, Anessa, Sunplay (??? some drugstore brand in Taiwan)) but now really just use Shiseido sunscreen and some DHC (mail order) products. Less is definitely more.

Has anyone tried My Beauty Diary face masks? They were really popular in Taiwan for a while; my sister says she is going to bring me some to try.

I have some of these!!! I have been hoarding them, though - afraid to use them up, lol. You have inspired me to get off of my butt and try them. :D

I also love Sekkisei Mask - I love the Whitening one. It is without question the best mask that I have ever used. If you are in the US you can get it at Beauty.com.

Does anyone here use BB creams? What brands so you recommend for someone with combination skin and hyperpigmentation? TIA! ;)

^^
I have combination skin too Lo! And I actually just posted in another thread about it, but I use Laneige's BB cream. I use it only on my cheeks and forehead though, and then I use another matte foundation on my nose. I have #1 which gives your skin a "glowing" complexion. But I have tried #2 (yields a more natural "no makeup" look) which is actually a bit darker, and gives more coverage IMO. Perhaps you can try that? Here is the link: http://www.yesstyle.com/en/laneige-...2-natural-50ml-1-7oz/info.html/pid.1022583699 or you can see all the BB cream selections here: http://www.yesstyle.com/en/list.html?q=BB+Cream&ss=121&bpt=48 Hanskin, Skin79, and Missha are popular brands.

Thanks, lana!!! I will check these out. I am on a BB cream hunt, lol....:smile1:

I've been using a relatively new-ish and luxe line, Pur-lisse, which is a niche line with high-tech Soy Milk cleanser and Pur-Bright Serum, and Pur-Moist moisturizer with anti aging peptides. It's made for delicate/dry/sensitive skin, which describes my Asian skin to a tee. it's paraben-free, colorant-free and preservative-free. The textures are HEAVENLY--the soy milk cleanser breaks down makeup faster than DHC/Shu Uemura. and the moisturizer is like a cuddly comforting blanket that has never irritated my skin at all, i've gone thru about 3 tubes already! Bliss carries it, and the website is purlisse.com.

I have tried Korean products too, i find them all very heavily fragranced and hit or miss. However I do love my SulWhaSoo eye cream which is like $300. But looking at the ingredients of many, a lot contain alcohol, propylene glycol, etc. I think most of it is genetics. My best friend is Korean, with amazing skin and she used *gasp* Dial Soap on her face for YEARS.
