One thing I find a bit amusing is that Korean people in Korea are more allured by western products yet those who live outside of korea seem to want korean products so badly. :)

I used to use Sul Wha Soo for many many years and it's fantastic but I've been branching out to other brands, anything from the expensive to the drugstore stuff to see what works for me. :)

Hi gals!

I've heard a lot about korean skincare lines these days & would like to try using it since Shiseido no longer works for me. Anyone here ever tried any of the korean skin care lines? Please make suggestions as to which line is good because I tried to go to some of the asian/korean store and I can't seem to get enough information from the Sales associate due to limited english. I heard about Isa Knox, O hui, laneige, Whoo, ect. Can any of you pls let me know the difference between them or other recommendations? I'm asian and 33 and my skin was really dried back in my 20s but now it's becoming combination/oily with more than normal breakouts. It's frustrating because i can't seem to be able to control the breakouts.

Thanks!

This is just coming from my personal experience, but I had bad luck with Laneige. Like you, I had normal skin when I was younger but the older I get the more oily my skin is becoming (I actually recently went to a derm for the first time in my life because my skin has gotten so bad). The SA recommended me the Hydra Solution cream since I was moving from CA to NY. Bad news bears -it wouldn't let my skin breathe. It was so waxy in texture and I just felt like an oil slick. Since your skin is getting oily, I would stay away from that line. I did however get a sample of their Water Bank cream and it was alright. If you do want to try Laneige that would be the one to try.

I really like the Laneige Moisturizing Cleansing Oil. Especially in Winter. However, I have switched back to the Lancome, since it's easier to find. There's enough Chinatowns & Koreatowns, but it's easier to just go to Shoppers and get Optimum Points. However, the Laneige can leave a bit of a residue - moreso than the Lancome, less so than the shu green A/O on me. Effective, though - they have a Refreshing version for combo/oily skins.

They're cheap, but I absolutely love The Face Shop's brightening, 'Pearl' and whitening mask sheets. I don't think they're miracle workers, but again, they're cheap enough and feel nice - they also have oil control ones. Skip the makeup, though - it's rather boring and the pigmentation isn't great. If it's readily available, fine - but if you have to order it, skip; you can find better in the drugstore.

skin79 & Misscha/Koh Gen Do seem to get decent enough reviews if you're looking for BB creams. Unfortuntely, Misscha doesn't ship to Canada, but it's got thorough English translations on the website. skin79 wise - not everything - but AFAIK, all the BB creams have English write-ups on the website.

I don't know if you're interested in Asian makeup - but I think Lioelle is Korean, and their cheek/lip tints are pretty good.

Thanks gals for your comment. i did a lil googling online & found that Laneige to have good reviews but nothing "spetacular". I'm leaning towards trying Isa Knox. Anyone tried that? Also a friend recommended Dr. G brightening bb cream so any reviews on that would be great too.

Thanks!

Personally I do like Laneige products.. However one man's meat is another man's poison.. So I guess it really depends on your skin.. I kinda like Thefaceshop products as well. The Ecovert Toner is good.

oh gosh, I've tried so many korean skin care lines. I had such stubborn acne when I was younger, so every other month my mom would come home with a new skin care box set from the korean market for me to try and they were all targeted towards moisturizing. bah! but the products are good I think so long as you try the right line. I prefer ISA KNOX over Laniege but I really really love Amore Pacific (which they've started selling on Sephora, cool except for the ridiculous price point). I think a lot of Isa Knox and Laniege is targeted towards dry skin (Isa made my skin less oily though) but I love Amore (which I use now) it balances my skin just right.

have been using Whoo and OHUI for the last year... my skin is the best it has ever been

do use Isa Kox oil cleanser at night & OHUI First foam... love these products

and can't say enough good things about them...

I've tried some Korean brands, but I wasn't really impressed. They are pretty enjoyable to try, as they smell nice and feel nice, but I don't think they have longwear skin benefit as opposed to Japanese brands. I much prefer SK II from Japan

I definitely recommend Laneige and MISSHA. I don't own many of their products, but the ones I tried I am absolutely impressed with. I only tried the Super Aqua line (moisturizing) of MISSHA but I do know many people who are very pleased with the Laneige line for troubled skin esp. their toners.

I finally found an asian cosmetic store with sales rep that speak english so I got a consultation & the CS recommended that I try Isa knox first since I'm new to the line & have sensitive skin. I asked about Ohui, Sulwhasoo, and The History of Whoo & she told me that those are great product for fighting aging skin, but they're "richer" and thus might not be beneficial for me at this point since my sensitive skin my react to it. It's definitely more expensive than isa knox & though the CS said they have better ingredience like Ginseng, she recommended that I let my skin get use to the more gentle line first. She said sometime, overloading the skin with strong/rich ingredients would counter-act the benefit. I guess the CS made a good point in saying that i should not spend and waste the $$$ on these expensive products when I don't need it yet...eventually yes but not yet. Ginseng is said to be good for fighting agin and replenish the mosture loss as we get older so i would definitely try Ohui and the more expensive line down the line.

I was actually surpise to find a CS rep that discourage me from spending and buying more products. I was asking her about buying the whole line that includes the cream, the anti-aging serum, ect but she only recommended that I get the toner & emulsion lotion first. She gave me a lot of the samples for the seum and cream & only told me to try it after about a month of using the other two products to make sure it's suitable for my skin type.
