There seems to be less criticism of these very thin and /or plastic looking models and celebrities putting out a negative messages. IMO that is worse. I don't see this forum talking about the BMI of these thin women or there real or perceived health issues. Who knows what drastic measures these models and celebrities take to stay thin that can cause health problems.
I applaud magazines that show women of different sizes , body types and ethnicity etc
One size does not fit all.

If you want to go by the BMI calculations and she is actually 5ft 9in and weighs 170 pounds, (she looks like she weighs more in my opinion), her BMI is around 25.1 which is considered overweight.
Just as another example, if she is 5ft 9in and weighs 200 pounds, her BMI would be 29.5
30 is considered obese.
IMO she weighs more than 200 pounds which is very unhealthy.

I take it you're her doctor and have weighed her and calculated her bmi?

I agree. I think one of the models said that before the VS show she doesn't eat for a few days and works out really hard. Gigi also was "forced" to lose weight because she was "too curvy".

She's not putting anything out there. There's a market for plus size models and she's decided to make some money. She clearly works out which is more than other people do who are sitting on their inactive butts while talking about her....so she's doing significantly better. Y'all are extra. I can be considered overweight by these one-note standards of being rail thin with no hips, thighs, or butt. Not everyone wants to live like that and there are very many people who are a plus sized (size 12-18) who are healthy. I don't even know why I'm responding to you...lol.

She is LITERALLY putting it out there. What are you talking about?? She's in thongs and bathing suits showing off 70%+ of her body. As for her working out? Please. I know what women who actually workout and eat healthy look like. They don't look like her. So either she's in the gym 5 days a week, then binging on high fat/carb foods after, or she's barely working out and eating a more "normal" diet that most Americans tend to eat. This isn't rocket science. She IS overweight by whatever measure you choose to use...and not by a couple of pounds. If you continue to disagree, then your not facing reality.

My BMI on one of those lame basic calculators that only use weight and height is something like 25-27, which is like a point or two from being "overweight" on the chart....I workout at minimum 5 days a week and my weight is mostly muscle, my stomach is flat, my arms/leg muscular and toned, my real BMI is something like 23-24....stop with this stupid simple BMI measure as being all that meaningful. You have no way of knowing her BMI unless you have all of her measurements/a handheld analyzer to properly calculate BMI.

I already addressed this. My BMI is considered overweight, cause like you, I work out and have a higher muscle/fat ratio which skews BMI (and like I said, BMI isn't accurate for most men or women who have a higher muscle/fat ratio). But it's only by a couple of points. She's borderline obese by BMI standards. Big difference. Her legs are not muscular...they're fatty. So comparing her to you isn't the same.
Again, my issue isn't that she's plus sized. My issue is that people are making it seem like there's nothing unhealthy about it. There are plenty of things unhealthy about it, and by her being put forth as "normal" it's saying it's OK to not eat healthy, not limit your caloric intake, and not meet certain cardio goals...cause she's clearly not doing those things.
Should she be judged negatively as a person because of this? Absolutely not, but stop trying to force unhealthy lifestyles as OK. There's a reason obesity and obesity related illness is so high in America...and this sort of thing is one of them.

Well, we're not in a thread dedicated to those models, but if you go to some of them, you'll see people saying they look too thin or unhealthy. But I agree, and I stated that before, the other end of the spectrum is no better. Extreme Thin <> healthy. Extreme overweight <> healthy. There's a middle ground that I think we should be celebrating and putting forth as a goal.

I doubt anyone is going to look at her and say, "wow, she looks good let me gain a bunch of weight to look like her." I have been thin and fat. And thin was better. She is overweight and not healthy. She definitely weighs more than 200lbs.

Ashley Graham showed just why she's single-handedly revolutionized the fashion world as she stepped out for a gala fundraiser Wednesday night.

The first plus-sized model to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit looked stunning in a figure-hugging white dress.

The sleeveless outfit had a tightly crocheted pattern and a halter neck that embraced her glorious curves.

Perhaps not, but someone who is 300-400 pounds could look at her and say, 'hey, I could look like that.' That's probably more realistic than thinking we can all look like Jillian Michaels.
