Are there any David Yurman fans here?

For years I thought David Yurman's jewelry looked skimpy and was not well made. I tried one of the Confetti rings on at a department store and was appalled at how cheap it felt. But... in the past few months I've started liking some of DY's stuff. I got 2 yellow gold pieces for Christmas - a ring and earrings, both of which I love. However, his pieces with diamonds, whether set in gold or silver, don't appeal to me. The diamonds are beyond minute, and when taken out of the gazillion watts of light cast on the jewelry counter, they don't sparkle much, they look dingy to me.

I consider DY jewelry middle of the road in terms of price - not costume jewelry but not real expensive either. I do like many of his designs, and consider that when buying. They have a casual look to them that appeals to me and fits in with my lifestyle.

I think you can get very nice hand crafted silver jewelry (Native American for example but it can look very contemporary) for much more reasonable prices. DY is nice but I don't think think it's worth the price for me personally.

Branded Silver is never worth investment, though the price of silver has jumped up llike anything! People have earned a lot more in Silver than in Gold investment..but the investing silver should be brick, coin and not jewelry. Branded silver like Tiffany or DY is waaay over priced.
BUT, if you are going to wear that jewelry like everyday or get good use out of it, I guess that piece itself becomes worth the money. I mean there is no point in buying ten cheap things and not wearing them...beter buy one good, over priced piece and use it...

sorry, for my crappy explaination...:smile1:

I had the same concerns about buying sterling silver, especially when you can get a non-branded piece for the same price and in white gold. However, what i look for in jewelry is mostly the style and workmanship. I recently got gifted the DY petite albion ring and I absolutely love it!! I tried to find other similar rings with a gemstone halo but the other ones just didnt look as nice. In the end, my bf was great and convinced me to just pick what i really wanted. so he splurged and got me the DY, despite my hesitation of silver not being as good of an investment as gold.

I think as long as you love the piece, what it's made of isn't that big of an issue. Sure silver isnt as sturdy as white gold, and i definitely have to care for the ring more than my other gold jewelry but I couldnt find anything like it and I love it dearly for it's unique look! Hopefully you'll find something that speaks to you and makes you feel the same way, and it'll be a worthwhile investment.

I say buy it if you like it. DY is not my style, but I feel it is very distinctive, and that is what I do like about certain pieces... How recognizable and unique the style is, is important to me!
You like it, you get it! You are paying for the uniqueness of DY!

We in NY were fortunate enough to have David Yurman friends & family sales where items were up to 80% off (with an additional 10%). I have a nice little collection of pieces from that sale.

If there is a specific piece you love, go for it.

was wondering why DY didn't have sale since fall 2009. Would love to go, anybody heard of upcoming DY sales in 2011?

I bought a DY piece today at Bloomingdales. Pre-sale. the actual sale starts next friday. 15% off purchase of 300 or more...make it 20% off when you use your bloomingdales card! Its no F&F but 20% off isnt bad

 I've not seen any DY on sale at Bloomies! Maybe I should take a trip to check it out!

In my opinion with DY silver or anything designer and branded for that matter you are paying for the name.. I love DY and continue to purchase pieces.. Saying its not with the money because silver is rather inexpensive is like saying an LV isnt worth it because its material isnt expensive... Well just like a designer purse, you are paying for the brand and quality of the workmanship. This is just my opinion though

I got addicted to DY some years ago and bought WAY too many pieces. Wore them often, though, and got many compliments. Still wear large cable bracelet almost daily -- the worst part about DY is that it does seem overpriced for silver, silver tends to wear down quickly where rings are concerned, and polishing that silver all the time gets tedious. Otherwise, I still love the pieces, just wish I had fewer of them. Buying a few pieces you really like seems like a good idea.

They may not have had enough excess inventory. The DY sale popped up out of nowhere and vanished like an urban myth. It'll probably be back. We just need to keep watching for it.
