Are Rolexes really worth the money?

Well to each his own. I guess I'm just one of those people who WILL spend that kind of money on a nice watch one I decide it is worth it. Even though this IS my first time buying a watch that cost this much (mainly out of fear of attracting muggers). I see nothing wrong with it and with all due respect I don't think its fair to make comments of that nature on a board where people talk about shelling out big bucks for purses, jewelry, shoes, and the like.

Oh gosh...I'm so sorry...I honestly didn't mean to sound like I was judging you for wanting to get a Rolex. Honest!!! I was just saying that ... for ME ... I can't imagine it. I'm a total cheapskate ... except when it comes to beads. I've easily spent $5,000 on silver, gold, and beads in just a couple of days.

My mom always told me to buy a cheap watch because if it breaks you're not out much and she always had 'expensive' ones breaking on her so what's the point. BUT ... her definition of expensive isn't exactly Rolex level. LOL

Please accept my SINCERE apologies...I think it's great that you're looking for a watch. Everyone has different priorities and I would never, ever, ever judge someone for what they purchase. I love that people are excited about purses and shoes and makeup and of course jewelry.

I can't wait to see what you choose!

DH bought his Air King years ago when it was $1200. :amuse: I really wish I would have bought one for me back then!!! They are such great quality. His still looks perfect (no scratches) and he is not careful at all. They are definitely worth it and hold their value.

I have a s/s Cartier Tank medium. I've had it over a year and I am considering trading it in for a Rolex. I saw a simple, classic s/s Rolex yesterday and fell in love.

How long ago was that? My boyfriend looked at the Air King in February and it was $3200. That's quite a leap in price, wouldn't you say?

oooh caanie this watch is gorgeous...it's the only rolex i've ever seen that *i* personally would consider paying that kind of money for (you know, if i had it.:smile1:). but then again, i'm so NOT a watch person. things on my wrist drive me nuts. :smile1:

anyway, great taste as usual. :smile1:

Congratulations nathansgirl on your Rolex purchase. You will love it!

I've had mine since I was 14 because my Dad got sick of buying me Swatches. He even threatened me at that time and said that he will stop buying me Swatches and instead get me a Rolex. I was like, duh! I'm so glad though that he bought me one because now I'm 30 so 16 years after I got the watch, I still use it everyday and looks brand-spanking new! Not to mention that the price has gone up from 16 years ago!

Oohh.. that's such a great excuse! I'm going to use that and try it on my dad. :graucho::p

Yes. If you are buying the Rolex oyster, then you have made the right decision. It will never go out of style. Check out sothebys/Christie's auction houses. Rolex is one of the few watch brands they carry for auction.

It's sad but true that mechanical watches actually don't keep time as well as cheaper Timex, etc... watches. The standard is usually about +/- 8 seconds per day (I think that is Rolex's minimum standard). I recently had mine serviced by an authorized Rolex service center, though, and they have it adjusted where I believe I am within +/- 2 seconds a day, which is really outstanding.

I have read about placing it in a certain position at night to adjust its speed. I always place mine face down in my jewelry box, but I have read somewhere that one position speeds it up and another will slow it.

Here's one of my watches, which I consider my "every day" Rolex. (I can't get a good pic of the other):

LOVE:love: Is this a junior or ladies size?
