Anyone stepping away from handbags?

I know posting this in the Handbags forum is very ironic, but is there anyone else stepping away from luxury and handbags in general? After my second downsizing, I'm happy with the bags I kept. There's nothing else I need or want to buy. I'm waiting to see Phoebe Philo's new collection, but besides that, all the new releases aren't interesting to me at all. A friend recently offered to bring me a vintage or secondhand bag from Japan, and I couldn't think of anything to get.

Then there's financial reasons. I want to save more money and spend my money wisely but I also want to spend less time thinking about shopping and handbags. But I've also just gotten bored and moved on from endless consumption and mindless shopping. I've seen some people on Youtube talk about doing the same things, but I'm wondering if anyone on TPF is?
Same - less interested in them, have what I need and sold the rest. Probably will sell more at some point. I find most of them boring as well (nothing new really) and am also tired of spending too much time thinking about shopping. I really have all I need.

Yes. It has more to do with the incredible rates of personal crimes and store thefts and so on that are rampant since the pandemic in and around the United States. There are fewer places where I feel super safe -- even to/from work it's unsafe for me -- so I'm focused much more on buying items that I need for my home and family and staying away from bags and jewelry items that look too expensive. I've stopped using luxury bags with visible logos and have started to carry luxury without branding, and lots of department store brands of bags, so I feel a little less obvious.
So true , exact same for me!

I just sold three Celine handbags because I wasn't using them more than my other bags, especially my cheaper ones. I'm not planning on buying more luxury bags.
I would like to be able to do this. I have a Celine Micro Belt Bag that I haven’t used in years but I keep holding on to it. Did you consign your Celine bags or sell them yourself?

Until last week, I’d been away from handbags for a little over a year I think. Partly bc I had assembled a collection where I’m really happy with everything and don’t know that I can regularly rotate through many more than I currently have.

And partly bc we’ve landed really solidly in a trend that I pretty fully don’t like, i.e. crescent bags with a short strap. And hobos. Everything mostly looks the same to me now, I pull up sites and look at bags occasionally but nothing really stands out.

I imagine I’ll buy new pieces only very occasionally from here on out.

Thanks for this info. I have sold to Fashionphile before but never tried Rebag.
Just to give you an update. Rebag accepted my celine teen box bags that I bought from rebag and fashionphile. Did not accept my celine triomphe bag that I got from vestiaire collective. The guidelines list a variety of reasons for the rejection but nothing concrete.

I don't mind because I can just keep the triomphe bag, but I thought you might be interested in an update.

I have collected exotic bags since I was 20. I am 32 now. This year I had so many issues with some of my precious ones. For example, a LV Louise GM in the most amazing burgundy python was MELTING in its dust bag. I had to take it to LV hoping they could fix the glazing. I have also some personal issues and phobias, but I will wait until I can make a post about it. The passion just got lost when the bags are not holding their value or break even though I store all in one room.

I think I've bought one bag in the last few years (a Polene bag in 2022). First, I'm out of space in my apartment. Second, I have so many bags that I can't even make up my mind on which to carry. They are all in dustbags on shelves so I can't easily see them and I forget what I have. I also just kinda lost interest.
I need to cull a bit but I can't be bothered to list them for sale.

I can sympathize with you as I have the same problem ! My bags are stored in a high and very deep corner closet :whut:
So many bags are rarely used because I usually don't feel like rummaging around for long ...
So far I haven't found a way to organize them so that I can keep an overview

We also live small. For me keeping a photo album on my phone of my bags is everything. I also have albums for shoes and scarves.

I do the same except I have a clothing app where I put a picture of the bag in the app. The app puts different clothing options for me with my accessories, shoes, bags, etc.

I think I am done buying handbags too for now. The last time I purchased a bag was back in May. That is a long time for me. So we will see how that goes.
