Anyone stepping away from handbags?

I am pretty happy with my handbags, I only have one on my wishlist, which I know will be difficult to get. I’m not actively trying to get it, it will happen when it does.

I’m also not really using my handbags, in my city crime has gotten worse. I hope I can use my handbags again as I do enjoy my small collection.

I am estimating that I am using 10 percent if that, of my collection,
Although following the what bag are you wearing today and the shop my collection is influencing me on putting more in rotation.
Great threads, imho.
As far as acquiring a new bag?
Since I am an impulse shopper, it is only a matter of time until the perfect pink or yellow bag meets my gaze:lol:

I have been thinking about this lately. Should I step away from handbags?

I’ll be visiting Asia in November and there’s the Goyard store. I have been contemplating whether I want to buy a Goyard bag. Do I need another bag? No. I have bags from various brands already. But, I don’t have a Goyard store near me, so November is the chance if I want one? Not sure to buy or not to buy…

Do you want a Goyard because you love the brand and are really interested in at least one of their bags or is it because you don’t have anything from Goyard? Would you use the bag at least for a specific purpose (like travel or errands)?

Sorry. I accidentally didn’t quote reply. My reply is the post above.

It seems to be in the zeitgeist now that people are stepping away from luxury and being more conscious about how they spend/consume, and in the words of Martha Stewart "it's a very good thing". When young people are coveting stacks of Love bangles but complaining about not being able to afford a home, it's time for priorities to be re-evaluated.

That said, it would be hypocritical of me to not admit I've gone through cycles of overbuying. But I've always aspired to create a very small classic collection that would cover every need, and in the past year I've finally acquired my HG "two-bag" collection of a black Chanel and a neutral YSL. Purse peace

Sometimes I still think things like "every woman needs a red bag" (which I don't have) but then I realize there are zero cases where I'd actually use it. So it's like the OP said - you can appreciate the beauty of something without having to own it.

I think it’s more of the latter - because I don’t have anything from the brand. But do I need anything from the brand? No. Want more than need. I carry my lulelemon backpack on weekdays because I have so much to carry to work. Using a purse is just not practical.

I have been thinking about the mini Anjou. Using it on the weekends? Any thoughts? I don’t want to make an impulsive purchase.

It is not really an impulse purchase since you are thinking about it now.
Try it on and see if you even like it.
Is it worth for you to spend that kind of money for a week end bag?

Very true - honestly, not really worth it. It’s too expensive of a weekend bag. Thanks for helping me to be sensible!

Another place I like to spend money is jewellery from Chaumet. I do wear them daily, so the cost per wear is so minimal. It’s probably going to take me a long time to get the mini Anjou’s cost per wear down.

Definitely try things on. I would go to other stores as well and see if you like something from another brand. That will tell you something. Also, if you just want something from the brand, a cute slg or pouch won’t break the bank.

I switched to contemporary bags, and now buy them on a regular basis. I like options and I like variation in what I use. I also like the idea that I can buy them more often, and grow a collection.
Luxury bags are definitely losing their hype, for the reasons everyone mentioned here. Higher prices and lower quality. Contemporary bags are now more fun to me, as I can match my outfit with a matching bag.

During the pandemic I got stressed out about keeping my hands sanitized without ruining my bags. I ended up selling most of my small collection. I kept my Alma BB, Herbag, and Bottega Pouch.

I’ve switched to contemporary and let myself buy a couple a year. I sell or donate any that I get tired of and don’t worry about “losing money.” My most recent purchases were from Polene and Coach, and I’m very happy with them.
