Hubby is sweet enough to let me pick out a new ring every few years. I originally had a simple gold band with about 1 carat round. I loved it. Then I wanted something different and sold it and bought a square diamond in a thin band. Then I got a 2 carat round diamond in a platinum band. It is nice but seems too big for me. I hardly ever wear it. I then got a delicate Tacori wedding band in platinum and fell in love.....Tacori was the most perfect ring. So for my birthday hubby said to pick out a new ring and I did a delicate platinum Tacori engagement ring with tiny diamonds all around the side and had them put a deep blue sapphire stone in. The girl at www.BillBarnes.com jewelry store took her time in finding the perfect stone to fit. I think the stone is about 1 1/4 but precious stones and diamonds measure different and to me it just looks like a one carat stone. I love these two rings more than anything. It is strange but as I got older I feel more drawn to colored stones and not diamonds. I will probably sell my other diamond rings that I never wear to a great jewelry store here in town and get something else from him. I did get a tiny delicate platinum band with a halo design and a 1 carat yellow diamond 2 years ago and it also is another favorite. I wear this ring on my right hand. I also love my bands very thin. I find it uncomfortable to have a wide band on my finger. I think people put "what is your carat weight" as thinking it has to be bigger is better when I feel that smaller is a bit more elegant for me. My sis has a 4+ carat diamond and she flaunts it well but to me it is a bit in your face. She always wears huge jewelry while I have been drawn to delicate things. If you love something be happy wearing it and don't ever let anyone make you feel it is not enough. I have been married 31 years so it is not like I get or would even want a ring every year----maybe once in 4-5 years I will decide on a change.

I'm not engaged yet, but I'd be happy with that size. Lord, at this point I'd be happy with any ring LOL!

Really, though, I think a 1 carat or below ring can absolutely be beautiful and elegant. Wear it with confidence... a small diamond is still gorgeous! Some people actually prefer a smaller size and can find huge ones a little "in-your-face." It's all a matter of personal preference. Also, I have small fingers, so a ring with a gigantic stone might be overwhelming on me.

Mine is .87 and not even a diamond, lol. I love having something unique! Something that suits *you* is more important than size, IMO.

This is simply gorgeous!

Well current SO and I decided this past fall we would more start looking around at rings starting in the spring of next year. For god's sake we have been together for 4 years not sure what has taken him that long but I have the paitence of Job. I have huge hands and doubt any smaller diamond is going to look right. I don't like big gaudy jewelery in any form so I am hoping for at least a modest 1 carat stone. Actually I really want the Tiffany Novo ring so I am hoping that is what I get.

i have a round brilliant solitaire engagement ring, and i believe it is .90 and i love it. it is more than enough. it was quite expensive too when we bought it. now, i have kids house, etc and no interest in putting money into changing the ring. it signified us as we were when we got engaged, i wish to stick with the carat size.

I had a .34 ring that I stopped wearing about 7 years into our marriage. In fact, I sold both that and my wedding ring to get a pair of diamond stud earrings and just wore whatever rings I had. For our 20th, my husband bought me a Schlumberger 16 stone ring and a 1.37 carat round set in an eye shape with tapered sapphires on either side. I love it and if I got another ring with a larger stone, it would just be as another ring to have.

My engagement ring is a .74, round brilliant, I colored stone, SI clarity. I LOVE IT!!!! I would NEVER trade it or my setting for anything!

But, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get a nice anniversary band for my right hand next year for our 5 year wedding anniversary. Wish me luck with that one! LOL

My engagement ring is a .71 G color VS2 clarity princess set in an 18K cathedral setting. The stone is about 4.5mm square. 17+ years of marriage and many pounds heavier, the delicate size of the .71 has "shrunk" on my finger!

Circumstances dictate I'm prob not going to get a diamond upgrade until my retirement plan 20+ years from now. But I am willing to check out all the CZ sizes (specifically InterLaps). After playing with as high as 6mm and 7mm (almost 2ct equiv), I have found myself turning my 1.5ct equivalent cz ring backwards when I go out. I learned I am more modest than I thought I was...

I would think I am more of a 1 carat kind of person.

Here are my rings: http://forum.purseblog.com/album.php?albumid=4480&pictureid=37485. I think a one-carat diamond (in between) would be pretty nice!

My engagement ring is 1ct total weight, split between 26 round diamonds and 4 princess ones. It's not one giant rock but I like it that way. It sparkles a lot and it's very dainty and romantic.

Personally, I don't want my ring to impress anyone except me and my future husband. It's nice if other people like it, but in the end we are the only two who matter.

I have fairly large hands, and I still feel like my ring (.52 carat solitaire) is a little too much at times - I'm sure part of that is just because I'm not used to having anything on my hands, but I think I would feel very self-conscious at the office with anything much larger.

What I like best about my ring, besides the fact that we picked it out together, is how many people have commented that it's just so *me.*
:)

I dont necessarily like the title of this thread..implies that rings 1ct and below arent good enough..but anyway...

I am recently engaged and my fiancee had my ring designed from a few pictures that I sent to him. My center stone is a little over 1/2 ct and the ring is just under a ct total. I really love it and he put so much thought and effort into it. Its very special. and it sparkles like crazy!

sorry for the horrible pics...the sun is always gone when I come home from work
