I have a 1.3-1.4 ct. solitaire and it looks perfect on my size 4 finger! I'm sure that I'll upgrade someday, but after I have my dream house, dream car, etc. and if it even looks okay on my little fingers. DH and i looked at larger stones, but I "needed" one that was almost colorless and flawless, which is much harder to find in a larger stone. Until you're ready, you should play around with different bands. I just got married 6 months ago and I'm expecting my second band for Christmas!

Mine is also 1 carat. This is my upgrade. I am very happy and satisfied with it. I would love to get another upgrade though but not anytime soon.:p

MIne is 1.28 and I think it is wonderful. Maybe I'll ask for another stone on our 25th anniversary (a little over 3 years from now). My dream cut is an Asscher, and I would be thrilled with 1 carat.

You are so right - mine is 1.26 and I think it's perfect! My friends and I all dreamed/hoped for around one carat - there are a lot of stunning rings on TPF but it is by no means the norm!! :)

Mine is 1.5 princess but if I had known then what I know now I would have got a round cut in a smaller size since round appears bigger than princess...I love small, the thing about me is that I feel I have fat fingers (I am a 8 or a bit more in size) so less than 1 carat for me I think wouldn't look proportionate, if that makes sense....either way...my sister's is 1 carat and I love hers!

When the hubs and I got engaged I accepted his Grandmother's e-ring sight unseen. I felt like it wasn't something I could turn down (don't want to start saying no to your mother-in-law so early--ha) and I love antique jewelry anyway.

As it turns out it was a smart decision! It's a tiny bit over 1 ct but it's an excellent quality diamond and it's so me. I think the whole upgrading/size of the ring issue is a personal one. My ring is a good fit for me.

^This is a slightly blurry pic of it after we got engaged.

Mine is .87 and not even a diamond, lol. I love having something unique! Something that suits *you* is more important than size, IMO.

For my first marriage, I had a 2ct. pear cut with at least another .25ct in the micropave halo. My wedding band was a 2ct. eternity with round diamonds. So, that's 4.25ct. I had another engagement ring that was 1.5ct before I got my pear.

Now, I'd be happy with .5ct round or princess in a simple setting. I've had the bling, and it's not for me. ;)

I'm loving my 3-stone engagement ring which is just under the 2 carats and will never upgrade it as it's got a very special and sentimental value and so many memories.

This year my husband got me a gorgeous 5-stone ring to celebrate the birth of Milla and
our 5-year anniversary. The stones are quite big, but still not overpowering the engagement ring.

I wear all the three rings stuck on my wedding finger and they compliment each other beautifully with my e-ring on the top.

I'm not engaged yet and I do feel that my boyfriend is a great guy but is simple. Simple means that he won't spend too much on a diamond as he is more like the guy who saves for a house. I'd be happy if he just wants to marry me, diamond or not. In an ideal world, of course I want something beautiful, but at this point in my life, finding someone who wants to spend his life with me means more than a stone =)
