Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

For me, it's not so much embarrassment as it is feeling uncomfortable in certain situations. When I travel internationally to certain areas, I always carry a low-key bag that does not draw a lot of attention. Generally speaking, if traveling domestically I carry my LV, no problem, but am mindful of the areas I will be in. Another situation I always feel uncomfortable and end up leaving my LV at home, is whenever I get together with a certain friend who never misses a beat and always comments on my designer bags without fail, and not necessarily in a flattering way but more in a way to draw unwanted attention: "look at this girl, you have a new bag again??". Other than that, my LV is part of my regular rotation.

I used to live in Toronto and didn’t have any issues or felt anything in regards to wearing my lvs. I moved to Brampton some years ago and in this area of Brampton there aren’t many people who carry high end luxury bags, you’ll see the mks, tb and coach instead. I’ve maybe seen two other people carrying lv in this area. I am cautious when carrying my bag though these days as someone was following me around at the dollar store. I was carrying my Bloomsbury and the guy kept coming up so close to me and looking into my bag! It completely freaked me out and now I’m extra careful when I’m out in certain areas around here. It sucks that I have to be so cautious when carrying my lvs.

Oh that would set me off. Unless I was afraid for my safety, I’d have said something.

I take the Lakeshore West GO train and don’t even think about my bag while commuting or wandering in the financial district. I took the subway up to the Bloor Street store and was much more aware and cautious then.

I carry my NFs and have carried my Speedy B into work. I have a couple of people who never fail to comment on my bags though so I now rotate far less frequently than I used to. I will not carry any new LV into the office because people making comments annoys me. My NeoNoe is too casual anyway and I’d rather not introduce another NF to my work rotation.

I’m surrounded by LV at the office but it seems to be ok to have one - more than that and the comments start.

I used to live by Lansdown station. Not the best area but never had any issues or fears of carrying my lv. Also used to work in the downtown core. After moving here I took the train from Yorkdale never had any fears of carrying my lv on the packed trains. The lvs were everywhere. But in this area of Brampton it’s a rare breeed lol.

As for the creepy guy I turned around after noticing the guy a few times and looked at him he turned away like he was looking at something. I got fed up and said “yes?!” Very loudly and he kind of scurried away. Maybe he didn’t think I’d notice him hover around me since I was looking at things and pushing a stroller.

I normally never give a sh*t about what people think but lately I only share my bags with those closest to me or who understand the love of luxury bags  I have a very judgemental family (old school Asians lol) and they are ruthless and cruel when it comes to calling me out on what I spend my money on or other family members and such. I am a "white collar M-F worker" so I usually just use my work backpack for my laptop and everything else, IF and whenever hubby and I find time for date night or day dates, that's when I bring out the purses to carry  My husband got me a speedy last Feb and I have only carried it 5x, lol it still looks and smells brand new, I baby my bags hehehe

I think it really depends on your area/neighborhood. When I lived in DC, it was my LV Speedy that got the most commentary at work...mainly from guys or the occasional woman....though my Mulberry, Chloe, and Valentino were much more expensive and went unnoticed. Walking around, no one really gave me a weird look regardless what bag I carried. There seemed to be a good mix of designer and non designer within the city. If I were to go to my hometown, I would probably get stares in any recognizable designer bag (LV, Gucci, Chanel) because it’s simply not carried there. Most will buy a nice Coach or Tory Burch, but that’s it.

When I moved to my current neighborhood in the Midwest, LV is a closet staple.....so no one cares if you carry a LV. A fleet of lacrosse moms will all have one with their Lululemon leggings and Canada Goose jacket...a uniform for the SAHM. It’s nice because I can carry a Birkin or Kelly with almost no comments or weird stares....they simply don’t recognize it because it’s not a LV....which makes me believe they buy LV more for the status than handbag appreciation. If anything, someone might compliment my Twilly scarves...but they don’t even know what they are and call them ‘bag scarves’ (one was confused why one was in my hair and another on my Kelly). I don’t really mind because I don’t want people to know how much my bags cost.

While my neighborhood doesn’t care, I still am cautious about carrying certain bags on public transportation or if I were to visit a poorer area. My Valentino/Mulberry/Chloe bags are generally safe, but I usually tuck my Chanel and Hermes bags in a reusable shopper. I still say you should be able to wear a nice bag without apology if you can afford it. I don’t expect a doctor or lawyer to wear a cheap watch or suit because of the sensitivity of their clients. We all have different passions and priorities. A fancy cup of coffee every day at work racks up over $1500.

Thank goodness you clarified it was a privately owned house. Heavens forbid we thought you rented!
I put it like that deliberately .
It was a horrendous run down area which we did not know at all before we moved there ( drugs dealing, junkies etc)

The estate agents lied to us before we bought it saying all the area is private owned.
It was not- we were the only ones who bought a property there.
We had a real trouble to get out of it, nobody would buy a lovely flat we upscaled inside but cannabis smell everywhere outside.
So yes I put it like that deliberately. I don’t see why I shall explain myself here as it is not relevant the thread but here you go.
Oh yes and we are renting out now.

When I moved from the city to little home town in 2016 I was shy about flaunting my handbags, even though in reality, on this forum anyway, they would not be a big deal. But when I went ahead anyways and took some hits, I uncovered a whole undercurrent of high-end fashion conscious locals that are keeping my favorite consignment boutique here hopping with high end consignment goods disappearing off of the shelves. Use the law of attraction to bring out the fashionistas where you live - wear your goods. They aren't called goods for nothing.
Nice point! In my area we have the same kind of resale shop in the most high-end suburb of our city (large city in the midwest). I was so glad to find it... it's nice to have a place to find Lilly Pulitzer, nice business clothing, nice purses, etc. I don't see *too* many LVs out and about (mostly Neverfulls) but it is more often than say, my hometown. It's a mixture of all kinds of incomes.

Yes, I am a bit weird about that. I will opt for a more "understated" bag if I am around certain people or places.. I just dislike attn. I struggle less than my sister and I don't really want her knowing I have more than 1 LV, because she'll ask how much it was. Then again, she has probably seen my social media..

I think it comes with the territory because "everyone" knows the LV Monogram. I sometimes wish I had a DE to reach for!

I realize this is an old thread but see people still replying to it. I'm not embarrassed to carry my LV's around with me but like some posters say, I remember avoiding carrying them under certain situations, like when we were buying a house, cars, job interviews, etc. Anyway, I once sold a LV bag on ebay and was paying for the package at the post office. I paid for the additional insurance for the sold value of the bag and the clerk blurted out, "that's a price of a sectional!" I just looked at him nonchalantly and replied, "too bad I can't carry a sectional on my shoulders" and just walked away.

Thank you!! I love your reaction!!!
I need to remember this next time someone makes a stupid comment on how I spend my money!
I am always careful when and where I carry my bags. Too bad... I dont even know why it bothers me so much what other people think of me. But I feel judged when I wear LV. Always... and not really in a good sense. I live in a small town.

This has happened to me as well! I was shipping a Speedy at UPS. The clerk said "You women and your bags..." and shook his head as I told him its value. I was so offended. I'm a grown woman with no debt and was being judged by a stranger who was supposed to provide a shipping service to me. Never went back in there!

Thank you! I find it so rude that these total strangers feel the need to judge us. People spend their money how they see fit and what they see value in; home decor, gardening and fishing tools, gym memberships, workout gears, sneakers, electronics, etc etc. People should just mind their own business as long as it's not coming out of their pocket... lol

This reminds me of what a "friend" once told me. "With those heels, you won't survive a day here. People here tend to look down on people who wear expensive clothes and bags." I just told her, "WELL GOOD! MORE FOR ME THEN!" But I'm sure she sure as hell won't turn it down if someone were to gift her a nice designer bag. I just rolled my eyes so hard and minimized contact with her.

I'm not embarrassed to carry any of my bags...anywhere around anyone. While I feel for others situation, I just can't fathom being bothered about what someone else thinks about something I paid for with my money. I've only had one guy in my office comment on my LV Neverfull, this has been some years ago and I simply told him, if my bag purchase is something you need to chat on everytime you see me carry it, I'd say you should maybe invest in one for yourself.
