Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

I can understand this to a certain extent, but mine isn't embarrassment either. I'm more nervous of all the extra attention people seem to pay to the bag, it almost feels like I have a target on my back that screams to a thief to steal from me. Whenever I leave my local LV, I'm always extra cautious and vigilant. Sometimes I carry a super small purse so I can drop it in the new bag and carry the new bag out like it's mine, that way if the shopping bag is the target the criminal would get a big empty box!!!

I agree, I also get nervous of all the extra attention people seem to pay to the bag but I don’t think it’s “I’m going to steal your bag” I think it’s more “wow she can afford that” or “wow Louis Vuitton such a special purchase” doesn’t necessarily need to be in a negative way but I actually thing that what you said about leaving your local LV with the new bag and putting your purse inside and then just carry the shopping bag and the empty box is much better

I’m going back and forth on two bags for this very reason. My DE pieces are no brainers, I jumped on a speedy b 25 and Alma B.B. after getting a neverfull mm and clemence wallet. I thought I was done but something felt missing and I now have a mono petite Noe and the Pochette Metis in noir sitting in boxes in my room. Completely different bags, I know, but they both are kind of supplemental - the petite Noe would be a more casual, lighter alternative to the speedy and the pm would be a black/more mature alternative to the Alma B.B....but I find myself considering whether the mono will be too in your face for the casual use I want it for, even though the pm is 1k more expensive. It’s annoying and while I like the pm, there are so many issues, even with the empreinte, from the glazing to the s lock scratching - things I don’t want to worry about at this stage in my life when I have small kids and just need durable, functional and nice looking. I’ve had friends and family bash the mono print on so many different occasions and I don’t care what they think, I love the look of the patina and love that I never see noe’s out in the wild.. but part of me is still struggling with this decision. All I keep in thinking is will I regret not keeping the “classier” (relatively) looking bag?
What kind of glazing issue happens with the empreinte pm? I don't consider hairline scratches a defect. The hardware will always scratch with use anyways. As long as it's not a huge chunk taken out of the hardware!

I love love love (ADORE!!!!!!!) the mono print and it has nothing to do with the fact that LV is plastered all over it. I just happen to love the color brown & the feel/texture of the canvas. I love the contrast of the tan/light brown flowers & symbols. That said...I just cannot bring myself to carry it. It draws too much attention. I'm not one who likes to stand out. I don't want attention, whether it's negative or positive. I like to fly under the radar, so to speak. So I sadly stick with the DE print. Don't get me wrong...I like the DE print and I like it a lot. But it doesn't nearly make my heart flutter like the monogram print!!!

There are a few posts about it “melting.” I have read so much on here I can’t remember where it was but others experienced it and had it taken care of with no issue. I just don’t want to deal with those kinds of issues on a $2k bag

Ha ha! Let me clarify, it’s not really the people in the mall that worry me, they are the ones that act like you stated above. Unfortunately, at my mall there are A LOT of unsavory characters who hang around outside, that’s the crowd I worry may target me.

You could get a LV mono make-up case or something else small that you carry IN your purse and don’t pull out in public frequently. Wallets and the key pouches are very visible, because they are used so often, but a make-up pouch can be unzipped without removing it from the purse. Kind of a hidden monogram piece just for your enjoyment. :)

Oh no!!! I thought the melting issue was resolved long ago!
It may have been but even if not, they are suppposedly really great about fixing it..

Here’s my question for the people‌ in big cities: does it matter anymore to others what kind of bag you’re wearing? My younger sister is an agent at a big agency in LA and her professional success has happened so quickly that her purchasing habits haven’t caught up yet. She recently told me she wants to get her first nice designer bag after paying off her student loans and asked if she should get Gucci or Prada (I assume so she’s not using her Tory Burch bags in front of high end clients) to which I responded: there are nicer bags like Hermès, Chanel, lv, Dior...she thought lv is too “showy” to which I countered isn’t Gucci or Prada obvious too? Can’t you recognize Chanel? I love seeing these articles about Hermes and Goyard being less known than LV, and that might be the case in smaller cities/towns, but in NY/LA/Miami/etc. no one is seeing an Evelyn and thinking “wow that’s so understated!” - they’re thinking that’s a 3-4k bag to run errands and go to pta meetings. So is that more showy or the Neverfull? Is buying a bag left to personal taste/preference in these environment where nothing is really sacred anymore? Thoughts?

I understand dressing for your clientele and any of the designers mentioned have more and less understated bags in their line up. I can also see where your sister isn't used to this new income/job and related style norms. Starting with a leather bag vs a logo'd canvas bag may be a better way to dip her feet into designer bags and they're less overt even to those in-the-know.

In your sisters case, it sounds like she needs to "look the part" at her job - as many do. Because of this I'd say her personal taste/preference - if far off from her day job - may need to be saved for off hours. Not that you can't find ways to add your own style to a more formal work style - but save the boho bags for weekends.

I agree.
Look the part.
I see many young women wearing a killer suit or dress, then pulling a casual bag out of their desk for lunch.
Classic and understated is the way to go most times.
Unless you work in fashion.

I work for a software engineering company. Although most people there make really good money (some way more $ than I do lol), they carry Michael Kors and Tory Burch and spend $100-$300 on bags. So I'm on the fench whether I'd take in my LV. My Tumi and non designer leather bags would be better.

And unfortunately, I live in a weird place. People see my appearance and either assume I have $$ or that they're fakes. Depends on where I carry my bags. I just stopped taking them out as much.

Exactly - I didn’t mean for her to get a mono bag, I immediately showed her the neutral city steamer and capucines and she really liked them. What stayed with me was this idea that “lv = showy” bc of the association with the mono and in her words “the girls that used to wear them in hs.” Like she would turn up her nose at carrying mono ever based on that experience, even on the weekend, but is totally comfortable having a glaring “T”on her bag/sandals/etc. and likes-but-can’t-afford Burberry bags/clothes... she’s obviously not coming a wealthy European background where she’s annoyed by the popularity of lv abroad.. so what is it? Is she still resentful of the girls that had it in high school when she was carrying coach? Is she trying to circumvent showing that she’s new money by rejecting designers she perceived as being associated with “less tasteful/classy?”

I’m genuinely interested in the psychology of this bc I do know there is a spectrum of views on this and obviously all of the luxury companies are making hand over fist - so why are people still behaving as if one particular monogram/brand plated bag is more “in your face” than another? Or are they really trying to feign “taste” by showing with their “under the radar leather” that “hey, I have enough money to afford the leather version.”

I got a Speedy 30 in MN bought in 2013 and it just sits in mywardrobe completely unused, I never take it out as I am worried how people will presume it’s fake etc..
My clothes are not designer- I am not into designer clothes really at all.
I usually wear Topshop, Superdry, A&F clothing.
I live in a nice area but I still worry.
About 8 years ago I owned LV Large Noe in MN and I used it all the time, and I was living in a horrible chav council area ( in privately owned house)
Since that we sold our property and the Noe and moved into lovely area but now I feel not great about using my Speedy bag outside. It just feels not right for some reason.
Anytime I spot someone with Speedy, I think Oh I must use it, looks so cool, but then I never do.

I don´t feel embarrassed wearing LV but I don´t wear LV everywhere. It really depends. I usually like to use them when I am out and about by myself and not meeting people that I know. I used to take my LVs to work but now it´s only the Speedy DE and my black NeoNoe, as most people don´t know that it´s a designer bag. One of my colleagues once asked me if my Speedy is a real Louis Vuitton and when I said yes she told me that she once bought a fake LV shawl - on a beach in Mallorca . Oh well.
