Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

Just read a few comments on this thread and I think one may consider opting for a bag in DA, DE or epi leather as it is more understated than mono. I come from a modest To medium income background and don't hang in high end places, so in public i believe there is more people who don't know that these are also LV than we think. But i understand it if someone prefers mono. But at the end, learn to just don't give a... people in our modern world are more prone to judging.

I go to a lot of thrift stores, and will usually avoid carrying my bags there. I’ve grabbed my wallet and stashed my purse in the trunk in a pinch. Although it is a bit ironic since all of my Louis is secondhand!
Haha ha! I go to a lot of thrift and consignment stores too and I understand what you mean. Almost all my bags are secondhand (2 LV, many Coach and MK, 3 Longchamp, and so on). And more, people who see us don't always think that as second hand shoppers (me since 10 years) we have been patient enought to save money for a bigger stuff (in my case) and making constant effort to find gems, like a true designer bag for less. Thrifting is a treasure hunt: often you go there and find nothing. Then the other time after it's the jackpot. That's how it happened for my Berkeley in DA. Have a good weekend !

It's interesting - this thread took a new turn given the Covid situation. Some people are no longer as comfortable showing their luxury bag purchases during this time while some can no longer afford them - and some have noticed little change in lifestyle. I can totally understand, regardless of personal income/lifestyle, if one feels less comfortable carrying their more obvious designer goods.

Personally I don't feel any less comfortable carrying my obvious designer bags but I have cut down on 2020 purchases. That said, I do want a Speedy B35 this year and I'd love a Gucci Marmont before the end of the year. We'll see if my new job takes off (100% commission based).

Yes I live in the bay area where I feel overdressed if I wear anything more than lipstick. I’ve worked very hard in my life and I love designer mini bags! I also feel silly walking around the streets in a place that has more money than the rest of the country but if you don’t look like you just rolled out of bed you feel stupid. We go to Vegas a lot and that’s where I carry my bags and feel cute!

Hmmm. I am from NY and live in the Bay Area, too, but I guess in an area that dresses up a bit more (not Berkeley)! So, I use mine a lot. I felt a bit embarrassed when I wore my first LV to the supermarket, but I got over that real fast. Now, I feel like I see them everywhere. All kinds; I appreciate it.

I used to carry them to work, since everybody start making weird/ rude comments about me spending so much money on a bag I decided to use longchamp. I do think some people are just jealous
I have stopped taking mine to work as people constantly make a thing out of it. Now I turn up to meetings with my coach bag and they still go on about my lv’s. I work really hard and save and over my bags being a thing, I kno they talk about me when I’m not there and my bags.

I have no issues carrying designers bag to work!

However, I was concerned about showing up at a job interview with my Cartier love bracelet. I got it about 4 years ago and had no issue wearing it to my then-workplace but when I was looking to change job and went for an interview, I was hesitant but went ahead with my bracelet anyway. I also chose to carry a low-key black Loewe bag instead.

I didn't want to appear "well-off" and thus "doesn't need to be paid well". Note: I was not applying for a management role, but an administrative role.

Are my concerns legit or am I overthinking?

I personally downplay everything for an interview. I want them to remember me for what I say, not what I was wearing.

That said, unless the bracelet is Excessively flashy or over the top, it’s probably fine. Looking polished and professional is all that matters.

I won’t carry LV to the office (if we ever go back). I use a Kate Spade black tote that can take a beating and carry all the stuff I need for the workday and flies under the radar.
