All this talk of bag snobbery... such first world problems when you stop and think about it.

I love tPF but aren't we privileged people to be able to sit online and ruminate about our favorite purchases or planning our next, setting up photo reveals, etc etc. I'd say we're awfully lucky overall to have to deal with problems of bag snobbery!

I guess the snobbery can go both ways. A friend bought me a Coach bag as a present and I tried to return it to a regular Coach store in SF. She bought the bag at a Coach outlet store. This was quite a long time ago and I think the return policies have changed. When I tried to return the bag the SA knew right away it was a bag from the outlet. She looked at me like I was a homeless person begging and said in a very snobbish tone that this bag must be returned at the outlet since we do not sell this bag here. I took my bag bag and tried to leave with dignity. All the SA glared at me while I was leaving. I did not want to buy any more Coach bags for a very very long time. Plus at the time the selection was not appealing to me. Now when I go into the Coach SF with my Prada, Chanel or Celine bags in tow they all come running to try help me. I have grown to love Coach again since they are carrying the bags I loved way back when but why did they have to be so rude to me years back when I did not carry a designer bag? Sorry had to vent.

Thanks for this story. When I graduated in 1994 my mom gave me a Coach briefcase as a graduation gift. It was BT and I preferred black, so I went to the Coach store in SF to exchange it. I got the same attitude and they made me feel like a thief. My mom was mortified that she had given me a "second rate" briefcase. It wasn't until I learned what that little bullseye on the creed meant that I was able to tell my mom no to worry that she had gotten a great deal on a real bona fide Coach briefcase for me.

LOL, I buy and wear what I like. I have Coaches and VBs and LVs and Old Navy specials bags all trying to vy for space in my closet. My WalMart and Old Navy and CL shoes are in there too, along with my extensive collection of Target flats.

OMG, Target flats are the best!!!

+1. Excellent point!

if you LOVE your Target bag = Awesome...if you LOVE your $25K Hermes Bag = Awesome! Am i jealous of either person? no, because i LOVE my bag! :)

And in the end, its not about the bag its about the ability to pay for the bag....its not about wanting a $25K purse, its about having $25k to spend on a bag and being jealous of that ability... and I really try to never live my life wishing I had someone elses money. I work hard for my money, and i appreciate what i can get with it... i like what i do for a living, i enjoy going to work...and if it means i can't spend $25k on a bag or even $2k on a bag. thats fine.

Yes! And I think that's the issue for some people. For them it absolutely is about letting the world know that they can afford a $$$$ bag. And then they assume that's what it's about for everyone.

I think for some people it's almost entirely about status. That's how you get the "I would never pay $wxyz for a COACH bag" thing. If its really just about beautiful bags then you'd have to actually at least see the bag before you can determine what you'd pay.

Of course I wouldn't spend 4 figures on ANY bag. But that's just my own personal comfort zone. Not because I couldn't afford it, but because it wouldn't be appropriate for my lifestyle and comfort zone.

And anyone who claims they can't find a quality bag for under $1000 is lying to themselves.

Your point is all well and good, but. ... You knew there had to be a big 'ol hairy but in there somewhere didn't you? :p

BUT - this is a COACH forum on the PURSE forum, so logically this would be the place to discuss all of these topics. We come here to post pictures about our latest purchases, wishes and deals. We applaud each other in the mod shots section and we admire each others' collections in the club house forums.

So why should we not have posts that talk about other related topics to do with our bags? Including dealing with issues such as bag snobbery?

Where else shoud the OP have gone to bring up this subject?

I like having a variety of topics on this forum. If it happens to be a subject that does not pertain to me or is of no interest to me, I just back out of the thread and move on to another one. Simple and easy.

I was in tower 2 wtc during 9/11 and this week is always very difficult for me. Sometimes planning the next bag is a way of coping with stress. :smile1:Don't assume that just because all of us are talking about bags that we are superficial. Sometimes we are just coping and escaping for a few minutes.:smile1:

Thank you for sharing that with us, ltbag.

I'd like to offer some gentle ((hugs)).

thank you for sharing, you gave me goosebumps and explain it well. of course we know purses and handbags are simply that, but if they make you happy - in what ever fashion, or price range or whatever way they make you happy - thats a good thing. coach is my happy place. i look at the website whether i'm in the market to buy or not, i enjoy watching the styles change and evolve, its simply a nice escape. there is nothing wrong with that. whether someone buys 1 a year or 100 a year, if it makes them happy and they truly enjoy it - no harm, no foul. its all good...

Oh, God bless! I cannot imagine what that was like. I know what it was like watching it on TV--that was horrific. I just. cannot. imagine. God bless the angel who guided and led you out of there on time.
