Anti-Coach snobs...ugh

I don't care what other people carry. I tried to "wean" myself from Coach bags but I just can't. Lol.
I carry what I like. My favorite bag right now is a Nine West bag. It's just the perfect bag to me!!

As far as snobbery, I have seen it within this forum as well. I've seen people who carry boutique bags put down people who carry MFF or siggy bags.

I have a confession; I was one of those snobs. Now, I never trashed Coach in any of my posts but I went off the brand around the time signature came out and in my opinion, quality had declined. I moved on to LV, which touts itself as a luxury brand and dabbled in Prada, Miu Miu, Chanel, Mulberry and finally Hermes. Of these, Hermes and Mulberry stand by their product. They repair without blaming the customer for whatever needs to be repaired and if it's a defect, they call it a defect. LV is notorious for knowing about quality issues and pretending they don't exist. Prada sold $2000+ fairy bags that couldn't get wet or the image would run, never told their customers and then refused returns. There are threads on all of this.

Hermes has gone from a luxury experience to an expensive head game. Want a Birkin? In some places you have to buy thousands of dollars worth of other stuff before you are good enough to be offered one. There are threads on this too.

In every luxury designer forum, you will see threads posted about declining quality, shoddy repairs, poor customer service and so on.

Which brings me back to Coach. There I was, minding my own business on the train to work when I glanced at the beautiful beige satchel held by the woman next to me. Her hand was covering the logo. I kept peeking and you can imagine my shock when I saw the word Coach. Out came the iPhone and there it was -- a sand Haley and it was only $358! That was one tenth of what LV would charge for a similar style all leather bag. Now I was curious. I visited an outlet made a purchase of a sand Romy but couldn't get past the "I can't buy a Coach" mentality so I returned it.

Then I saw the Anna Sui FDL duffel and also saw that a fellow Hermes refugee bought one. That, my friends, marked my return.

Here's my humble opinion: Coach is trying to position itself as a luxury brand and for now, they are affordable luxury. Bringing in the former designer from Loewe may boost the brand even further. Loewe bags, like Coach, have an understated elegance but come in gorgeous colors. In the meantime, the return of the classics I grew up with and the introduction of Legacy leather have definitely brought me back. So what if the bags are made in China? So are many of the luxury brands, although they are finished in France, Italy, etc., in a way that will allow a "Made in France" label to be added.

There are no games being played at Coach. Need a repair? They'll do it. Need customer service? You have it. And above all, these bags are still being hand made -- and they are usually less than $1000.

Let people bash the brand. They don't know what they're missing.

This is such a good post. And I agree - those who bash but have never tried Coach do not know what they are missing out on: good quality, timeless style, and value for the money you pay.

I am a bag collector as well, who has to have at least 1 piece of every brand I like. But only Coach has got me coming back time and again for all these reasons. I don't care if people want to look funny when I carry Coach (and sometimes they do get this "look" when ladies pass by my desk and see my bag, as if to say "Why the downgrade? Just yesterday, you had a Prada.") I'm going off to buy another one. :smile1:

This is a great post!
The other day someone on the main thread was looking for a less expensive alternative to the Hermes Evelyn and someone else suggested Coach classic Legacy zip. Everyone was SO surprised at how much it looked like the Evelyn and how elegant and well-priced it was.

Most of the people bashing Coach don't know anything about the brand, they're just focusing on the fact that it costs less and just blow it off as "less than." It doesn't bother me so much because, more for me!

I think it has to do with not knowing yourself well-enough and needing to attach these things to yourself to prove to yourself that you're worthy or successful or whatever. Letting everyone else define those things instead of defining them for yourself. Those luxury brands that overcharge for bad quality are taking full advantage of the many people with that particular insecurity and its a damn shame.

:goodpost: Couldn't have said it any better!

I have found that it seems to be LV buyers / collectors that are the worse offenders (in my reading experience)....

I don't want to stereotype, but yes... from my experience I do agree with you. My kids attend (affordable) Private School, it's not a fancy schmancy ones, but religious based ones (so no, not for rich ones) good lord, the snotty Mommies who carry LV are usually the worst! It's all about your purse, your shoes, your SUV. It's funny how they'd always check out what each others wear or carry, or drive, sometimes green with envy if I carry better bags than them :p. I don't know, maybe it's just the mentality, this is what my Husband told me since he knows exactly what's going on (this is another stereotyping).

Back to Coach, I wear my Legacy Duffle I recently purchased proudly & like most Coachies here, I buy what I like & wear it proudly. And getting compliments from people didn't hurt either. Believe me I had both sexes, men & women complimented how beautiful the bag is, granted some of them are people I know (who own extensive high end premier bags).

I was in tower 2 wtc during 9/11 and this week is always very difficult for me. Sometimes planning the next bag is a way of coping with stress. :smile1:Don't assume that just because all of us are talking about bags that we are superficial. Sometimes we are just coping and escaping for a few minutes.:smile1:

Sending :hugs: to you & couldn't agree more.

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and words. :smile1: i really appreciate them. I did not want to take the thread off topic, but just wanted to point out that a lot of us are here on this forum as a harmless way to distract ourselves from the everyday pressures of our lives. Purses and lovely ladies who love purses are a great way for me to take a time out and have some harmless fun. :supacool: Thanks so much for being here for me. :smile1:
God Bless woman!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words :) I love this forum. :supacool:

I have quite a few balenciagas and have some chloe, gucci, alexander mcqueen and other premier brands as well. I love them all (if they are still in my collection they are loved) but I do not think they are better in any way than my coach bags.

In some cases with my premier bags I paid for a style that is unique to a brand, in other cases I paid for a certain leather that I loved.

When I buy Coach bags, I buy for the same reasons. Style I love (phoebe) leather I love. The difference with Coach is that I am not overpaying (usually). i feel I am truly getting value for my money.

My status conscious friends do not understand of course, but let them get 2-3 bags a year and look down on my Coach bags. I will buy my two+ bags a month and keep on smiling and enjoying my collection.

I am actually an " equal oppurtunity handbag brand consumer" i have both premier and contemporary brands. i've been to so many situations when other mamas in my kids gymnastics class where so uppity --- the coated LV ones were the worst but i didn't really care because most of them only knows Coach as siggy, even when i'm using my BV Cabas, they think it's UO. i love coach as much as i love my Bals and BV esp knowing that the price gets me best leathers like my bleeker weekender, etc... some of them just don't know anything much about the brand except that it is widely copied in the same breath as their LV. BTW, i got one LV coated canvas.

+1--great post.....

I have loved Coach from the time I was a Coach SA years ago. I have Hermes, LV, Chanel and Goyard bags but I also carry Coach and wear Coach shoes.

For all the $$$ I've spent on other brands, Coach always follows up each purchase with a thank you note for my business. I've spent thousands elsewhere but spend $400 at Coach and I feel like they really appreciate my business because they say so. And they stand behind their product.
