Serial number 056-2040 has shown up in an exceptionally well-copied vintage fake with a "Bean Bag" creed and may show up on others, with or without the same creed wording.

This may not have been mentioned in previous posts, but there are NO Coach bags that have ever been called "Bean Bags". Any Coach purse or small accessory other than a desk paperweight or a leather keyfob that's stamped "This is a Coach BEAN BAG " is a complete fake.

These things are starting to show up again, but NONE of them are genuine.

-4154 style numbers are showing up on a LOT of fakes, usually but not always starting with M4N-, M4H-, N4N-, J8H- or some similar combination. That style number would belong ONLY to an all-leather bag from the Soho line although the style number itself may be a "blank" like -9956 or maybe -9941 and may never have been used in an actual purse.

N4H-9920 has started showing up on all-leather fakes. That style number belongs ONLY to a hobo-style Becket Zip with rather unique strap fastenings - any bag with buckles or clips at the strap ends is fake. A photo of the GENUINE Becket Zip style 9920 is below.

The Month code is also invalid - watch out for other serial numbers starting with N4H- - they're probably ALL fake. ANY COACH WITH A SERIAL NUMBER BEGINNING WITH "N" IS A POSSIBLE COUNTERFEIT AND NEEDS TO BE AUTHENTICATED.

NJG- is a commonly-used prefix in fakes and has TWO invalid codes, for the month AND the year. It's usually found in "good" fakes where the bag details look ok and the style number matches the style of the fake bag. But neither of those letters would ever have been used as codes by Coach in the positions they're in.

Thank you for posting the catalog entry for the Becket Zip, I have that bag, it was one of my first rehab projects (you and DemRam) authenticated it for me!

Below is a real life pic of the Becket Zip in Navy and a close-up of the unusual strap connection.

FYI, I just picked up a vintage D&B crossbody and it has the same type of strap connectors!

Thanks for the extra photos of the bag and the strap, that's a big help. There were a few other Coaches with similar fastenings too including some of the Sheridans, and a few Coaches even used that round button thingie for the actual strap length adjustment instead of a buckle.

I'm in a thrift store at the moment so I can't upload a picture, but I found an orange bucket bag with a hangtag saying coach on both sides, serial number m7m-4248...I have a gut feeling it's fake, but is anyone around to shed some light in the next few minutes? It's pretty small, maybe 8 or 9 inches tall plus a longer shoulder strap, not long enough to be crossbody though

J8Y- has shown up as the serial number prefix in several well-copied fakes. Bags with this serial need to be authenticated by someone familiar with Coach plants and production dates.

I want this from EBAY but I want to make sure it's real. Can anyone help? She doesn't have a good pic of the inside tag and I emailed her and asked if I could return it if it's not authentic and she said she did the research and I cannot return. What do you experts think?

The bag was authenticated here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-93.html#post19786678

I've noticed in my authentic vintage coach leather bags, specifically the Coach Court and the Coach City, on the inside, the side directly opposite of the creed, there is a gold number either lightly stamped or inked in -I can only read one or two of the numbers and the numbers measure a little under 1cm tall. Does anyone know what this is?

I was told that it's a method used to mark batches of processed leather by the organization that oversees the Italian leather industry.

Hi,

Are there different names for the two different sizes of Pocket Purses? The 9755 model is the smaller one. What is the larger purse's model number and name? And if Pocket Purse isn't accurate for the smaller model would you please tell me the right name?
Thankyou!
