Hi. I'm new here...this is my first post...but I have been a fan of Coach purses for several years. Although I have some new ones, I always look for a bargain at the thrift stores. The other day I found an older navy blue bag, (don't know the name or style) in excellent condition for 6.50!

I knew some of the ways to spot the fakes but there is so much information here that I did not know so thank you to those of you who have provided it!

By the way, is there a place where I could find the name or the style? I tried the DD but it wouldn't open for me and I don't think it would have the information on the older bags.

Thanks in advance! I'm happy to have found this site and look forward to being a part of the Coach Club!

Welcome to tPF!

The old Drilldown hasn't worked for a long time, Coach disabled it. The only info it had besides photos was the style number. There's a different Drilldown for the new bags but you need a style number and color codes to search it.

If you need just the name or number of a Coach, the place to ask is the ID This Coach thread at the regular Coach forum. Navigate to the last page in the thread.

Questions about the authenticity of a specific bag or listing should be asked at the Authenticate This Coach thread in the Coach Shopping forum. Read the first post on Page 1 for an explanation of what information we need to authenticate, and again, go to the last page to post your question.

Another fake serial number to add to the list: UOJ-7785 and U0J-7785.

Style 7785 is a leather hamptons demi bag but the invalid serial numbers are seen on signature bags and wristlets in a variety of styles.

Thanks, BB - that U*J prefix combo has been spotted on fakes for several years now, but that -7785 number seems pretty recent. It sure gets around though, doesn't it? ;)

One more for the list if it's not already on there:

M4S-7414 is showing up on quite a few fakes. The entire number is invalid and that style code would never be on a bag with that prefix - ALWAYS fake

I heard that if the purse has c's on the outside of the purse they have a plain inside, and if it is plain on the outside it has the c's on the inside. Is that true with all their bags.

Generally that is true, but not with all their bags.

Coach has "rules" but every Coach rule has exceptions and the signature rule is one of them.

There are a number of authentic styles, mostly with some type of patchwork, where there are areas of signature on the outside and signature lining on the interior.

The most consistent "rule" to remember about Coach is its inconsistency. Every rule has exceptions so it's a good idea to check here and verify authenticity when looking at items that appear to break a rule.
