Thanks to @whateve, I found https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/254241670270 and bought it after getting a fake version elsewhere. I was looking at the creed and it's serial number. I was wondering if anyone could tell me when this bag was made based on that number?

Also, I have discovered that other bags of the same style share this serial number. Is that normal?
It was made in 2007. Bags made from 1994 on don't have unique serial numbers. The number consists of two parts. The part before the dash is coded to show when and where the bag was made. The part after the dash is the style number. All bags of the same style will have the same style number, although there are similar styles with different numbers. Some will have the same number prefix too, if they were made at the same factory at the same time.

Thank you!

I had read the article @Hyacinth posted regarding serial numbers, but I still found the whole idea of serial numbers confusing. Thanks for breaking it down as you did.

There's a lot to learn here, I'm seeing. The last designer I collected was kate spade, and figuring out real bags from counterfeit was a breeze compared to this!

Beware of another serial number that's showing up on various styles of fake Coaches.

C06Q-10105
Style 10105 is supposed to be a scarf print hobo that looks like this:

This is NOT authentic and not style 10105:

I purchased it used, but it’s in great shape! From what I can tell it’s authentic. Serial NoC0768-11126. Can anyone tell me when and where it was made? Any other info?

Hi!
I recently purchased a Coach Drew Satchel with Snakeskin Detail handbag (style # 67710) from Von Maur and a Coach Swagger 27 Pebble Leather Satchel handbag (style # F87295) from a Coach Factory Outlet store. I'm not planning on keeping both bags and I'm trying to decide which one to keep :-) ! I'm not doubting the authenticity of the bags. I'm just trying to "decipher" the serial numbers on the bags. The serial number of the Drew Satchel is No. K1881-67710 and the serial number of the Swagger 27 Satchel is K1880-F87295. I understand the 67710 and 87295 are the style numbers and the "F" identifies the bag as a Coach Factory Outlet bag, but was does K1881 and K1880 mean?

The K indicates the month of manufacture. A stands for January, B for February, etc. They skip I because it looks too much like the number one. So K means October. The next two digits are the year, so for both of these, that is 2018. The last two digits are a code that represents the factory where the bag was made.

The Salearea Guides thread pinned to the top of the Coach Shopping index pages explains how to dissect a Coach serial number. It's best to read the entire thread for some background, the Guides themselves start with post 14

Hey, @whateve and @Hyacinth!
This may be a silly question, but I've been wondering why does Coach make bags specifically to be sold in a factory outlet store and bags specifically to be sold at a retail store? Coach goes so far to include an "F" in the serial number to identify a "factory outlet" bag, but why? It can't be because there are styles that are only sold at factory outlet stores and other styles that are only sold at retail stores because I've seen the Prairie Satchel, for example, at factory outlet and retail stores. Does the difference have more to do with the quality of the bags? Are "factory outlet" bags made with lower quality materials compared to "retail" bags?
Thanks!!

I've been seeing a lot of fakes with *9G serial prefixes and in every case, the "style number" on the creed is "correct" for the style of bag the fake is copying.

Beware!!

Not neccessarily "lower quality" but often less expensive materials or with fewer elaborate details. And they can make a huge number of fairly inexpensive items for the Factory stores to sell during their busy seasons like the end-of-year holidays, Mothers Day, etc. The FP stores couldn't do that kind of volume at boutique prices.

As to WHY they make them? PROFIT. Factory Stores ( MFF) probably bring in more money than the full price (FP) stores.

There have been a lot of discussions over the years in the main Coach forum on the subject.

I think the main reason they use the F in the creed is to prevent someone returning it to a boutique. It's also why they stamp items transferred to outlet stores with a bullseye.
