I purchased the flavia in fir and red when the sale was good. I paid more for the fir and $226.00 for the red. I love both bags, but have a space issue.
Amyway, I haven't carried either bag. Since I just spent too much on the Strathberry tote, I listed the red flavia on eBay for $200.00 and taking offers for $180.00. I had very few views and no offers. After fees I would get $162.00 for a bag that retails for $795.00. In the past this bag would have sold pretty quickly, or at least gotten a low offer the first day or two. I took the listing down and I am sure I will be glad I kept it in the future. The flavia really is a lovely bag.
It makes me wonder if D&B is experiencing a slowdown in sales, and if so, we may see some good sales on bags moving towards Summer. Let's all keep our eyes open.
I think there is an overall slow down in sales, of handbags in general, new and preowned.
There are economic issues, worldwide (related or unrelated to each other), people are
paying off holiday purchases, and it's tax filing time in the US.
Also, for collectors, there have been great sales (end of last year) so we are spoiled
and looking for the prices we remember. I know that is preloved, not everyone is
a collector so they just compare the asked price to what's currently online
retail/sales. But I think all the factors together are having an impact.
It's taken some very good prices to get me off Ban Island. And I'm a big collector
and am triggered by really good prices.
And like you, I think many people take 'stock' in the early part of the year,
decide they have enough, or too many. So the desire to buy more is lower.
Some may even want to sell what they have to fund new purchases.
We all own things we think are 'valuable'.... whether handbags, jewelry,
collectibles, etc. But have gone thru the clean out of houses of older relatives
who have passed, I will tell you that there is rarely a market for things.
And they are only worth what someone is willing to pay when you want to sell.
For larger items, sometimes you can't even give them away because charities
are overloaded and have no space for more. More and more people turn to online
to hope to resell their stuff, but it's time consuming and doesn't always yield the
price you think an item is worth.... even if you would gladly buy that item for that
price if you didn't already have it!
I applaud you for taking stock of your handbags and trying to find new homes for those
you don't reach for. If I did that I would never buy another handbag in this lifetime.
The best I can do is give away bags I know are no longer functional for me. If I find
a home for them with a family member or friend, I am happy, they are happy, and
the world is a better place for it (I tell myself). And yes, most of the bags I
'gift' are in perfect condition, worn only a few times.
