You are corrrect, LJ. My Piper in Pebble leather just arrived. Perfect for casual wear and terrible Ohio weather. I wanted a crossbody, but too long and will carry as a shoulder bag. I don't care for the three piece strap on me.

I just purchased the coat from Germany. I needed an olive jacket.

And the bag was only $95.00. Another Dooney winner.
G. Glad the Piper will work for you.

Buying on sale is a sport for sure. It's also like the stock market. You never know when
something is at it's low point. You just have to do your research and make the best
decision you can. Over time, you 'average' your costs and in the end you hope that
your deals all add up to good purchases. We can't buy everything at the bottom.
We just have to work hard not to buy everything at the top prices.

Since we all love a deal, I noticed the D&B Piper bag I just purchased is on Amazon. If I liked the strap better I would consider the bordeaux.

The bag I purchased was $95, but on Amazon (-20% coupon) makes it $103. I'm not sure what other D&B bags have the coupon on the same site.

So, do we have to add Amazon to our price compare list when we find a bag we want to buy?
Are they shipping from the same warehouse as ILD and ILD/Ebay?

Sometimes,
dept. stores have great sales (even online), but the condition of items from dept. store
inventory can vary a lot. Often the merchandise has been on the floor and handled
a lot. I've found this with handbags and clothing. Even if the condition is 'ok', it's
sometimes not prime. I've gotten cashmere sweaters that weren't pristine, even tho
they didn't look worn. The fabric just looked less smooth. With handbags, Florentine
and suede would show the most 'wear' from handling (and Alto, of course). But pebbled leather
might be just fine. But some dept. stores do have a habit of stuffing handbags into
plastic bags instead of shipping boxes. That can ruin all but the smooshiest pebble
leather styles.

I don't usually fuss about a handbag I got on sale that might have been handled (or even
returned) by a previous customer. As long as the bag is in good condition and I got a great
price, I don't get upset if it's not factory wrapped. Just because a bag is factory wrapped
doesn't mean ti's perfect. But when I'm shopping online, I can't look over the item
until it arrives, so I'll only shop online where I know the return policy is reputable and
will work for me. If they make it too difficult, it's not worth it. And if I don't trust the
site, I won't buy online. I return very few items, but.... I always want to know I have
the option.

I agree with you regarding returning a bag, or anything. I shop on Poshmark and I try to examine the pictures carefully. I also don't buy from a seller who doesn't show the inside of the bag, especially when they have several pictures of the outside. I feel like they're hiding something. And if someone asked them a question or asked for more pictures and they don't, or are slow to respond I move on. I also look at average days to ship to see how quickly a seller ships out merchandise. I learned all this the hard way when I started buying on Poshmark. It doesn't guarantee I'll never have to return a bag, but it does minimize the risk.

As far as ILD, and other retailers, when I buy a new bag on sale I expect them to be in good condition. If they sold them as irregular or "as is" bags that's different. But if you're telling me I'm buying a new bag at a great sales price I expect the bag to be new.

I put the D&B Piper in my cart to see what happened. The bag $129.00/ with -20% coupon took $25.80 off/ tax $6.97 = total $110.17. Sold by and ships by Dooney and Bourke.

Amazon wouldn't be the first place I checked, but if I was going down the list for style, color and prices I would take a look.

I agree! New means new and not like something from a clearance bin.

I think the D&B bags are still an investment when on sale and I expect to get new condition.

Also, I get frustrated buying and have delivery problems. While it is the shippers fault, the company chooses the shipper and it is part of the customer service.

I have encountered three shipping problems this month. One item (gloves) was very close to my home and sent 2,500 miles away. A Dooney bag was set for delivery (also right near my home) and sent back to CT. I returned a D&B bag, it was out for delivery on Saturday, USPS claimed the label was incomplete, and needed to go back to USPS. What? It's the label from eBay ILD. It goes to a distribution center for ILD at a large industrial park. The package has not moved since Saturday. I kept a copy of the shipping label. It is clear as day.

I know I'm all over the place, but buyers usually can't pick the shipper. I stop buying from companies when their chosen shipper is unreliable.

I'm calling out F***X. They placed a large orange tote on my front porch. It contained 39 packages from all over the USA, for 39 different people in various cities.I noticed three packages were from pharmacy shops around the country and it felt like medication. I started there and spent 13 hours emailing, calling ect. The shipper took 2 days to pick up the tote. No thank you from the shipper or a sorry for the mix up. I still have no idea how I was the lucky receiver of the tote. I was told it was a computer glitch.

By the way, most places said to keep the items (mailers seemed like lots of clothing). Of course, I did not. It did make me realize that shipping mistakes cost companies money and increase customer prices.

@G.Allyn

I had to read your paragraph about the 39 packages twice, it was that crazy unbelievable! A computer glitch? I didn't realize people received so many packages at one time that they actually have such a thing for individuals. (I can see businesses.) If they deliver totes often to houses I guess a driver wouldn't open the tote to make sure all the packages belonged to one address, otherwise I can't understand why drivers wouldn't double check the contents.

And I agree with you regarding shipping errors. If a company consistantly has issues with a shipper they have to share the responsibility since they chose the shipper. I used to work in a small bank. We used a vendor for our credit card services. If a client had an credit card issue we were not allowed to tell our clients it's not us, it's the vendor, call them, because we were ultimately responsible for our clients' happiness. We had to make sure our vendor made us look good and worked closely with the vendor to fix the problem.

My bag from ILD has been with UPS in Rhode Island since Thursday. (They picked it up from ILD Monday.) The EDD is still the 29th. Fingers crossed it gets delivered on or before the 29th!

ETA: Kudos to you G.Allyn for taking time to contact companies! :hugs:

People report issues with many of the shipping companies and USPS too. It seems that
in some geographic areas, one of the shipping companies is 'better' and another has issues.
But that seems to vary by where you live.... both geographically and whether you are in a
city or a more suburban or rural area.

I think that UPS and Fedex use different shipping models (hubs, etc.) and also some use outside subcontractors for the local (final) delivery of the packages. And of course, some packages are handed off to USPS for final delivery. So experiences can be different. And we won't get into pressures on the drivers to make schedules or quota. Or what is considered an
acceptable delivery. Add to that, different 'weekend' schedules, and packages can sit
in intermediate locations for several days. At one time, one of the companies didn't deliver
to my area on Mondays!

It's frustrating to track a package and see it pass right over your area and be re-routed
either to a different distribution hub or back to the sender. Or to have a package just sit in an
intermediate location, because the seller didn't pay for a faster service or because the
package is just stuck or misrouted. And when we have purchased
from these sellers repeatedly, we know they have our correct address info. So, it's
either some error or the label was damaged or couldn't be read by the electronic sorting.
None of that helps when we are waiting for our package to arrive. I don't know if seeing
the tracking makes it better or worse for us. We get pulled into the minutia of the process.
Sometimes it gets resolved without an outside influence, but sometimes we need to get
involved. And then we are told... we have to wait a certain number of days before a
claim can be filed or the sender can begin to investigate. GRRRRR!

The fact that 39 packages were left at your door, when they should have been
delivered to lots of other people is both amazing and troubling. In these days of
scams, I don't know what to think. Did the driver just make a 'mistake'? Was
there something else going on? Did the shipping company improperly label the
batch? Was the driver just in a rush to make a quota or get home?

Apparently in some areas, drivers are told it is ok to leave piles of packages on the
floor near the mail boxes in multi-residence buildings. There is no security and
anyone can walk off with your package. But the shipping company considers it
delivered. It's even more risky than leaving packages in front of someone's
front door. Gone are the days of 'signature required' or of drivers even
ringing a doorbell before they drop the package and run off.

And in the end, we hold the seller responsible... they chose the shipping company.
But we wanted free or low cost shipping. And would it have made any difference if we
paid for a higher level of shipping/faster delivery?

I recently ordered replacement checks for a bank account. The first order did not arrive.
After 3 weeks, the bank put a stop payment on those check numbers. A week later,
the package of checks arrived (USPS). The next time I needed checks I paid extra
for tracking. The checks came within a week, right on time, no issues. Did I need the tracking?
Did it buy me a better level of service? In the future, I will pay for the tracking again....
the stress of the missing checks and their potential misuse by someone is not something
I want to deal with. If paying for the tracking (or higher level of shipping service) will help smooth the process, or at least pinpoint where the delay is, then it's worth a few $ to me. But.... would I do this for a handbag? For an expensive luxury item? For jewelry? I think the answers are different and have to be balanced against the value of the item and the financial risk and hassle of it's loss. I'm not talking about paying for faster service, just more
reliable service.

And there are lots of stories where people paid for that service, and the packages were still lost and never found. And sometimes this happens with documents, so it's not that the package
might have tempted someone, it's an envelope of papers, supposedly sent thru a secure
mailing/shipping process.

That's a good tip about checks. I write very few these days, but still keep them on hand.

Another thing I read recently, is customers complaining about company branding on shipping boxes. (I.e.Yeah, a Dooney box, and a big one just sitting on that doorstep). I think that's why I've gotten strange about tracking packages. You see so much about the porch pirate's. I live in a safe area, but things happen.

The weird thing about the big orange tote, was it had a clear slide pocket on the lid, and a computer copy of my name and residence. Where in the world did that come from? The pharmacists I spoke to were very concerned about patients missing their medication. I'm an RN, and was thinking meds may have been approved by an insurance company and paid for, and the patients without something important... Big mess.

Okay, done complaing. I have chronic pain and it's been terrible, so everything is bugging me. But, good news about Dooney. I contacted ILD about the satchel I returned. Third day without movement and at least they said they would check on tracking from their end. I'm sure they spend big $$$ on shipping.

Pain is very tough to deal with and it's very demoralizing. It makes everything else harder
to cope with. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

You did a good thing trying to follow up on
the incorrect deliveries. Not many people would spend the time and effort or even
think about the impact of those misdirected packages on the people waiting for their meds.
It's so hard for people to get replacement meds when the insurance co and pharmacist
say the prescription was filled. Your calls probably saved those patients a lot of grief.

I can relate. My husband spent $10.24 at the USPS to have our cat’s insulin prescription sent/delivered “next day”. That was over a week ago. It looks like the pharmacy received it today and his insulin will be here tomorrow. Good thing. My husband just told me we only had enough for 3 more days. Grrrrr.

Well, that's scary. Lucky cat to receive great care. I used to volunteer at two shelters, fostered, bottle fed and rescued canines and felines. It warms my heart to read/hear amimals are well loved.

Update on my return. Tracking never updated from return to USPS office in Milford, CT. It still has an alert that it could not be delivered.

After ILD X2 emails, eBay ILD X1 email and report made to USPS, one hour ago messages at eBay states delivered and immediate refund. I ordered three bags that day and two in the return order and the refund seems incorrect. I need to double check, but it seems like too much.

It seems odd the refund was immediate, no updated tracking and it didn't take 3 days to process.

I told my husband I feel like the delivery truck ran over the package and this is why it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, my next return will be documented with a pic of the bag in the box and an exterior of the box. I know it was perfect when it left my hands.

I finally slept last night after my pain improved after a miserable week. I'm. feeling much less mean. Yeah!

Glad you are feeling better.
In Dec I had an awful time figuring out my credit card bill with so many Dooney orders,
a few returns, and some orders wtih multiple items that were shipped and billed differently.
From now on, unless I need multiple items to meet the free shipping level, I'm putting
everything in a separate order. They split shipments based on which warehouse the item
is in and whether it is immediately available. So I can't control what the billing will look like
I might as well simplify it as much as I can by putting 1 items in each order when I can...
otherwise it's a nightmare if you want to cross check purchases, returns, and what you
are billed on your credit card.

I hope all the numbers work out when they finally hit your credit card. I'm sure you will be
checking your account online to see when the refunds post.
