I was watching The View today and they reported that Amanda has been diagnosed with both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Also that the voices have been annoying her for some time, she has been known to throw towels over radios to keep the voices away. Hopefully meds will help her live a more normal life.

The key is finding the proper meds and making sure she takes them. So many people go off the meds because they don't like the side effects. And then lots of problems ensue. I had an Aunt who was schizophrenic, and she was crazytown, would not take meds. My BFF's Mom was also schizophrenic, but loved taking pills, so she was able to have a normal life.

Wow, what a heavy burden for such a young woman!
Hope she gets better.

Amanda Bynes's Mother Breaks Her Silence

Amanda Bynes's mother, Lynn Bynes, who was granted legal control over her daughter, is speaking out for the first time, saying the troubled actress "will get through this situation."

"I would really like everyone out there to know that almost 99 percent of the things written about my daughter in various media outlets are false or misleading," Lynn, 66, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement.

"Unless it's a statement issued by our family attorney, Tamar Arminak, please take everything you read about Amanda with a grain of salt."

Bynes, 27, has been hospitalized at various facilities since a driveway-burning incident on July 22, and was recently transferred from UCLA Medical Center to a Malibu facility where she'll remain for the foreseeable future.

In the face of intense publicity about her daughter, her mother cautions, "Please know that neither myself or other family members have ever released any information regarding her treatment or diagnosis. We truly believe in keeping our daughter's situation private for now."

"We appreciate everyone's heartfelt support and we hope that she can get some privacy and the respect she deserves during this trying time," Lynn adds. "Both my husband and I love Amanda very much and we know that she will get through this situation."

Good for her! No one needs to know what Amanda's diagnosis and treatment is but her immediate family.

So if she is getting psych treatment why is she at a rehab instead of a mental health institute?? And if is "recovering" then it can't be schizophrenia right? I mean you don't "recover" from mental health issues I thought. You learn to cope with them through behavior modifications or medication. I am so confused by her situation, but I hope that everyone has her best interests at heart and that she can be happy a the end of it all.

I thought the same thing when I read the article. You don't recover from Schizophrenia. So maybe she isn't diagnosed with that...?

You have to deal w/ that diagnosis VERY quickly. She'd be over that by now IMO.
Having answers after the past year or two has to feel good, even if the answers are serious.

Maybe, I'm not sure. I'm not in her situation and I don't know her family personally so I don't know how her mom would react. Honestly who knows how she reacted, everyone's different. Sometimes you feel like you can handle it on your own when in reality the person you're dealing with needs professional help. You don't think logically in a stressful situation like that.

You have to remember this has been a long time coming. As a mother myself, I have to assume she's feeling relief that there's help now.
She's already been through hell and back wondering if Amanda will lie another day.
