I think people are so quick to think the worst of celebrities - everything is an act or a cry for media attention and the chance to stay in the limelight. We seem to forget that celebrities are people just like you & I and some of them have the same kinds of problems & illnesses that most of us experience or see on a daily basis. They may be actors or singers or models, but those are their jobs. Away from the cameras & the stage & magazine pages, they have real lives & some of them have real problems. I think Amanda Bynes is proof that we all need to stop jumping to conclusions & think that every move a celebrity makes is calculated or for our benefit or the benefit of the cameras. Perhaps if fewer people had jumped on the "it's all an act" bandwagon she may have gotten the help she needed sooner.

It makes me so sad to hear how poorly she's doing & what the future may hold for her. I still see my kids watching her on Nickelodeon & can still picture her sucking on lollipop with pigtails in her hair in HAIRSPRAY. To think this is the same girl is heartbreaking. I hope she's getting the help she needs & that the "program" works for her. She got a long life ahead of her & I hope she can eventually lead a somewhat normal one.

Wow, this is really sad. I too thought she was faking it. I don't know if she owns a home in LA, but that apartment she had here in NYC was a rental. Since no one was hurt by her throwing a bong out the window, they should indeed drop the case. I just hope her money is safe, because she did work hard for it.

Me too. Her mom has control of her finances. I don't know much about her, but I hope she's not like most parents of child stars.

I never thought she was faking anything either. Unfortunately I know several schizophrenics and she showed text book behaviors. I can also understand why it took so long for her to get help. It's a heartbreaking disease that takes a huge toll on families and of course the sufferer.

Not really. I've known people who have been under psychiatric care all their lives.

Asking for an 18 month continuance doesn't mean she'll be confined that long, but again, people have been confined far longer.

I was just going to ask if 18months is considered short, long, standard. Cause to us outsiders, 18months seems like a long long time! Alot can happen and change in that time.

I never thought this was an act. There were glaring differences in her shenanigans and say, Lindsay's.
I'm SO glad she's finally getting help. I wish mental problems and disorders weren't so shameful. There's a real problem with a lot of people, families and the patients themselves seem so embarrassed still. . . such a stigma still exists. Such a pity

i know right... it's like what Howie Mandel said "people take care of their dental health, but they don't take care of their mental health." and it's so true.

 it's really sad. Like, really, really sad. People are so ashamed of mental disorders or diseases that they'll literally disown family over it. So much if our crime and homeless just need real help. It's a tragedy.
