I wonder when all of this REALLY began? What set this off? Drug use, abuse, just being famous and feeling a disconnect with reality? (Forgive me if I seem off topic) but I read about all these celebs going off the deep end. If it's not mental health (erratic behavior) it's drug/alcohol abuse...or both combined. Look at Miley...talking about drugs and "acting out"... saying "im just being me!", "it's cool, im okay, im an artest!". (Hello, this "cool stuff" you're doing is illegal and DANGEROUS (coke)) Nobody stops to say "You kinda sound like a moron"?!... Just because she's a celebrity? Zack Effron, even Melissa Joan Heart in her "tell all book" explaning her "wild 2 year stint". Is it that it's so easy to loose control of that unique celebrity "world" these younger kids grow up in? ....do some just eventually break away from "normal" ? To me...drugs alcohol are almost always present somewhere down the line. It's sad Hollywood is like this. I really hope Amanda gets better, so much talent.

There was a really interesting segment on 60 Minutes tonight dealing with mental illness. First off, Drs have found it's not a brain malfunction, but literally a disease of the brain like a cancer. They showed MRI's of people's brains before and after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. Also is genetic and passed through family members. Most commonly occurs out of nowhere sometime between 20 & 30th birthdays. The Dr also said jails are the new homes of the mentally ill. One person was jailed 400 times before they got him treatment. Many refuse medication because they don't like the way it makes the feel. Tired and not like themselves. And hearing voices is the most common symptom.

^yes, there's a documented age window of onset for these types of disorders/diseases. They're so misunderstood, it's really so tragic

Amanda Bynes Bails On UCLA For Malibu Rehab Joint

Exclusive

Amanda Bynes
left the UCLA Medical Center, where she was getting treatment for a serious mental illness, and is now ensconced at a fancy Malibu rehab center that caters to celebs ... TMZ has learned.

It's shocking ... the facility does not have the psychiatric facilities available at UCLA, and we're told she's still in a desperate state. It's all the more shocking because she's under a special hold -- called an LPS -- which doctors got because they were so concerned about her well-being.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Amanda checked in to The Canyon approximately 3 weeks ago. She interacts with people very little and rarely leaves the area where she's living.

Amanda is not wearing her wig and is "paranoid" the paparazzi will find her.

The Canyon got in big trouble in 2011 ... after an employee allegedly sold confidential information about Brooke Mueller during her stay. We're told Brooke settled her lawsuit against the facility for somewhere around $250k.

Amanda Bynes Parents Say Rehab Facility Is What She Needs

Exclusive

Amanda Bynes has been moved from the psych ward of a major hospital to a ritzy rehab place in Malibu for her own good ... so say her parents.

Rick and Lynn Bynes are responding to our story that Amanda was moved 3 weeks ago from the UCLA Medical Center to The Canyon rehab facility in Malibu.

Amanda's parents -- through their lawyer Tamar Arminak -- say the move was on the advice of doctors at UCLA, and that she is making "great strides towards recovery."

Sources close to Amanda tell TMZ, "Amanda was stuck with people in much worse condition than her. She was scared, afraid and did not leave her immediate room area." The lawyer adds, at the rehab place, "She is getting specialized psych care, one on one treatment, not drug rehab."

Our source says Amanda is able to walk around the grounds, see the ocean and ride the horses.

And, sources say, UCLA costs $50k more a month to house Amanda. That means she's paying $55k a month at The Canyon.

I feel like no one confirmed it, right? I'd like to know if that is 100% what it is. Not that I would be surprised/don't believe it or anything, but I'm confused as to why there hasn't been credible confirmation yet. So sad, all of this :nogood:

I doubt it... I think she may have experienced some traumatic... and acting out as a result... that and some self esteem issues(ex: that video where she told the paparazzi that she has to look perfect at all times)...

I never thought this was an act. There were glaring differences in her shenanigans and say, Lindsay's.
I'm SO glad she's finally getting help. I wish mental problems and disorders weren't so shameful. There's a real problem with a lot of people, families and the patients themselves seem so embarrassed still. . . such a stigma still exists. Such a pity

My thoughts exactly. I hope she gets better.

So if she is getting psych treatment why is she at a rehab instead of a mental health institute?? And if is "recovering" then it can't be schizophrenia right? I mean you don't "recover" from mental health issues I thought. You learn to cope with them through behavior modifications or medication. I am so confused by her situation, but I hope that everyone has her best interests at heart and that she can be happy a the end of it all.

Interesting observation...

She could be both. She was shown doing drugs and could have a mental condition at the same time.

This seems odd. I wonder what the whole story is.

Rehab = rehabilitation doesn't necessarily mean for addicts. They have a lot of progams, including for mental health.
