Maybe she cut them off because she's schizo and making
irrational decisions..she's proven that publicly.

I don't think bi polar and schizophrenia are caused by bad
parenting, unstable child life..etc.
I'd be in a mental ward
if this were true. I think it's genetic.

I feel bad for her parents, especially because they're dealing with this in their 70's.

Actually, some schizophrenia is caused by trauma, such as repeated sexual abuse - which, if you believe the rumors (and I know someone IRL who confirmed this went on in the mickey mouse club), it is rampant behind the scenes of shows with child actors. If the parents aren't abusing their kids themselves, then a lot of them are turning a blind eye in exchange for the money and fame that their kids are bringing to the table.

I did a quick search and this came up: http://articles.latimes.com/2012/jan/08/business/la-fi-ct-hollywood-molesters-20120109

ETA: the article says Nickelodeon tightened up its background checks since 2000... I grew up watching Amanda... she was on Nickelodeon since long before 2000.

Agreed 100%.
And even if the parents are vigilant, there are so many opportunities to engage in adult behaviors too soon.
Few escape, unscathed.

Yup.

And I do think that Britney is relevant in the conversation - think twice before assuming everyone's a good parent, esp. those who are totally OK with their kid working long hours in seedy Hollywood (like Amanda). There is a reason why she cut them off. Is it really that big of a coincidence that a lot of former child stars end up with mental disorders? IMO most of the young stars come from broken homes and their parents more or less sell their children for money/fame. Take the Hayden P. rumors as another example.

What rumor is that?

THE COCKTAIL IS WORKING!!!

Amanda Bynes
is doing remarkably better ... she's stabilized, not hearing voices and it's all because of a cocktail ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... doctors at the psychiatric hospital where she's being held have given her a combination of meds -- referred to as a cocktail -- to control what appears to be schizophrenia.

Our sources say Amanda responded quickly and dramatically. We're told in the last 3 days, Amanda has stopped talking to herself and stopped insulting people. To the contrary, we're told she's become downright polite, even saying "please" and "thank you." She has shown no signs of violence.

The progress is all the more stunning because these cocktails are notoriously difficult to gauge -- getting the right combination of meds with the right doses is something of a crap shoot. Our sources say the meds take 7 to 10 days to fully kick in, so they're not declaring victory yet, but they're optimistic.

But there's an ironic twist. Amanda is scheduled to have a court hearing today ... where she's trying to get out of the psych hospital. The fact that she's doing better can actually help her case, but we're told doctors are confident the judge will not let her out for several reasons. First, it's unclear if the meds will work long-term. Also, it's highly uncertain she'll voluntarily take the drugs.

One more thing. There are reports Amanda's parents may back off the conservatorship if she does better in the psych ward. Our sources say that is "absolutely untrue." Amanda's parents feel it's essential for her to get long-term care and supervision.

Nick Cannon wrote an open letter to Amanda on his blog.

an open letter to my sister, Amanda Bynes

As we all know I do interviews every single day about all my various projects, whether promoting AGT, Wild’N Out, my album, my stand-up special, NCredible consumer products, and various philanthropic and charitable efforts. Usually during these interviews I am consistently questioned about my wife, my kids, and my health and I happily answer them all. But as of lately I have been hit with an onslaught of questions about someone I most pleasant human beings I have had the pleasure of meeting, Amanda Bynes.consider family, someone I watched grow up, and someone I genuinely feel is one of the

The questions have ranged from, “Have you spoken to Amanda" to “Are you working on her rap album". Sometimes I would answer in a playful humorous manner and sometimes I would brush it off as another Pop culture topic that a reporter was trying to retrieve a sound bite for. But after recent events of Amanda being admitted under psychiatric care and reported as 5150, I see this as no laughing matter. I tweeted a few weeks about how the entertainment industry just consumes people and spits them out like flavorless bubblegum. A few chews of enjoyment then they’re under a city bus bench. Don’t get me wrong this is not a pity for the popular statement. I am always the first to say that fame and entertainment is one of the best and easiest occupations to ever have, but one must know how to navigate through the matrix or you may find yourself in a very dark hole. When a person is told all of their life that they are awesome, the best, the greatest and they are catered to every moment of the day. Imagine being the breadwinner in your household before you can even drive. Imagine you parents, teachers, and employers NEVER telling you NO. Anything you ask for or want, the world gives you, at some point you are bound to self-destruct. I call this “access to excess". I’ve seen it happen to many of my friends and colleagues young and old. It goes back to that old saying; “Too much of anything is bad for anyone". Whether it’s fame, money, sex, drugs, attention. It’s all a dangerous addiction. When there is no balance in your life a person will always become victim to their reality or lack thereof. The question is, when this destruction occurs, who is there to help put back the pieces. What do you do when you have no solid support system? When you feel like your friends are talking behind your back. When you feel like your co-workers are jealous and out to competitively sabotage you. When you feel your family has turned your back on you. When you feel like you parents have a conditional appreciation for you and only really love your money. You find yourself alone in that dark hole. Then you have to rely on your own devices once again in this vulnerable state. You become paranoid, frantic, manic, irrational because you can bounce your thoughts or ideas off of anyone anymore. Your reality no longer allows you to reason with the world, so you try to break through to get back to what you think is common ground. You are either trying to get back “hot" again or just searching for that adulation that you once received daily from the masses. Then enters the media, or what I like to call the ultimate magnifier. It’s like if you have a delicate piece of tissue under the sun, that tissue is under INTENSE heat with nowhere to escape but once you place a magnifying glass over that tissue, it’s bound to instantly burn up in flames. This is what I believe happens to many people in the public eye and we all sit back and judge these people for our own entertainment. We say things like, " I’m glad I’m not famous ", “Celebrities are Crazy", “See what fame and money does to people". And most of the time your assumptions and accusations maybe accurate but also inappropriate. No one on this planet needs to be judged or even has the right to judge. We are all equal and we all have our downfalls, fame or no fame. Money or no money. Life is hard for everyone in some since. And we need each other to in times of despair. No one can make it through anything alone. So I ask people who are quick to judge, tweet, report, or comment to ask yourself; what if that person was my sister? My brother? My Mother? Or me? What then would I say? In the words of the great poet and artist Bill Withers, "Sometimes in our lives We all have pain, we all have sorrow". We all end up alone in that dark hole at some point in our lives and if you don’t have a foundation of friends and family to help bring you up and out it makes that journey long and detrimental. So I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you’re not alone. I’m here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that’s what family does and that’s what family is for. I also extend this to anyone else in my life, past or present that may find themselves in hard times. I’m here! Call me! Because I truly believe, the hand you’re helping up today may be the one you’re reaching for tomorrow. So not to be all cheesy and over sentimental but I got to end this with the ingenious Wither’s lyrics "Lean on me when you’re not strong and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on. For it won’t be long until I’ll need somebody to lean on.”

That's so sweet of Nick to speak publicly about equality, whether you're rich and famous or not. I wonder where that equality thought went when my husband was at his and Mariah's hamptons house two weeks ago fixing their air conditioning and he couldn't be bothered to acknowledge my husband's presence when he walked right past him without a hello or even a thank you, like he wasn't even there.

I hope Amanda is given the opportunity to read that letter. It's really sweet and understanding.

It sounds like Amanda is on the path to wellness but it's a long road ahead. I hope she stays on track and keeps taking her meds.

Amanda Bynes loses bid to leave forced psychiatric hold as doctors confirm she is 'being treated for schizophrenia'

Amanda Bynes was denied a request to be released from her forced psychiatric hold on Thursday after doctors confirmed she is being treated for schizophrenia.

The troubled star's physicians told a judge during a hearing at the Hillmont Psychiatric Center in Ventura County, California, that the 27-year-old is currently undergoing treatment for the serious mental illness.
Her medical team said they would have a formal diagnosis within the next few days.

Preliminary diagnosis: Amanda Bynes doctors told a judge on Thursday at a mental facility in Ventura County, California that the 27-year-old is being treated for schizophrenia

'Although a formal diagnosis will be finalised in the next several days, it’s almost certainly schizophrenia,' a source told RadarOnline.
Amanda had been granted the hearing at the facility to request a release from the involuntary hold, but her medical team recommended she carry on with her treatment at the facility.
The judge took the side of the doctors, agreeing that the star needed more time on her new medication and that it was best to wait for an official diagnosis.

Receiving treatment: Amanda is currently being held against her will at the Hillmont Psychiatric Center

Meanwhile, sources said earlier this week that Amanda had 'stabilised' thanks to her new medication, but an insider told RadarOnline the claims weren't true.

'Reports that said she was responding well to the psychiatric drugs that were being given to her are wrong. It can take months, or even years to get someone like Amanda to find the right drug combination and then get her therapeutic.'
'The good news is that schizophrenia is treatable. It’s a very serious diagnosis, but Amanda can live a long and healthy life, as long as she takes her prescribed medications. She can function in society and still work,' added the insider.
Amanda was placed in the psychiatric centre after she set fire to a Thousand Oaks, California resident's driveway last week.
Her behaviour in the facility, meanwhile, has been described as 'erratic.'
When learning that her pet dog was being cared for by her parents, Amanda apparently became convinced they would harm it.
Her anxiety led to her suffering an episode in which she became so upset she had to be physically restrained.

Amanda has also been allocated her own room at the centre, after she allegedly began berating her room mate.
Despite her strange behaviour, Amanda has reportedly tested negative for all illegal drugs except marijuana.

Concerned: Bynes' parents Lynn and Rick are seen leaving the medical center where she is believed to be hospitalised on a 5150 psychiatric hold

Following her recent troubles the former Nickelodeon star's parents headed to court on Thursday to seek conservatorship over their daughter.
TMZ revealed that Rock and Lynn Bynes filed court documents asking a California judge to impose a conservatorship due to their daughter's apparent mental illness.
It is not yet clear which aspects of her life her parents are seeking to control, and the conservatorship could cover both personal and financial issues.
In California the proposed conservator must show that the conservatee is unable to care for themselves, and is a danger to others.

Sad. I was skeptical of the story that she was responding to meds. Psych meds take weeks to kick in, not days. Plus, it's rare to get the cocktail right on the first try. She has a long road ahead of her.

There was an article posted a few pages back where her parents said she was paranoid as a teenager. That she would cover smoke detectors b/c she thought they were cameras. That is not normal behavior. Why didn't they seek treatment then?

I am happy for her but sad at the same time. I don't know the statistics but it seems like most people with schizophrenia never stay on their meds long term because they don't feel like themselves. Such a crappy mental condition.
