The Adderall probably isn't prescribed by her doctor. For those who experience mania, a stimulant can exacerbate the issue and cause a whole lot of problems. If you don't have ADD/ADHD Adderall won't necessarily have the same effect that it does on people who NEED it. I've heard many stories about parents stealing their kids' medication to abuse it. Like, it's a stimulant.

Lemme see, do I really want to get into the conversation of med students being overmedicated and possibly abusing prescription drugs? Hmmmmm, I'm thinking, I'm thinking .......

Went to a Doc once, actually an APRN I think regarding some stress problems. First words were 'Here try these happy pills!!!'.

Ummm, nawh, don't think so. Just write me a note for a few days off work so I can relax and regroup, OK? (As I'm looking around the office noting all the notepads, pens, pencils, calendars, stickers, magnets and pretty much everything else with some sort of drug company logo or slogan on it)

'You sure you don't want these drugs? Or maybe these drugs? Or even these?'

Uhh, no, that's OK, I don't even take aspirin regularly.

Waaayyy too many pills being popped these days by people that don't need them.

Absolutely. Just because you think it's common, doesn't mean it's the healthiest or "safe" thing to do. Plus, those doc's get "gifts" from pharma companies when they prescribe certain medications.

It's over prescribed here in Oz too - and not just college kids. The tendency is to reach for drugs with young children as well, instead of looking at the deeper issues causing the problems as a first response. Very disturbing. I've had two girlfriends go through hell because their kids were wrongly diagnosed with ADD, and the other with ADHD - and the Doc wanted to put both kids (under 10) on drugs as the first response.

Turns out one child had behavioural issues that eased with some therapy. The other - nothing wrong with her - just a highly energised child prone to tantrums.

It's a fine line.

Can someone tell me how she could possibly get a DUI from Adderall?! I mean, this prescription is SOOO common, especially amongst my Pre-Med/Med school peers. EVERYONE has this prescription and nothing about it says anything about not being able to drive while on it. One of my closest friends in prescribed Adderall and takes it daily per her doctor's orders.

Something isn't adding up. She must have been high off of something else because if anything, Adderall makes you more alert and attentive, not loopy/drowsy/unable to pass a sobriety test.

Who says she is taking it as prescribed? If you think one can't get high enough on amphetamines to drive recklessly, you're crazy.

It's my uneducated, unprofessional and unsupported opinion that prescriptions in general today could be cut in half and no one would suffer unduly. Other than the drug company profits that is.

That could be a lot of what's wrong with this girl; too many drugs too early on in life may have done the damage we're seeing now.

You answered the question yourself.. your friend takes the prescribed dosage. Amanda was most likely taking (far) more than a prescribed dosage (assuming it was even prescribed to her!) which would most definitely impair even a mentally stable person, let alone one with 'issues'.

TMZ reported that it was prescribed to her, it was posted some pages back: http://forum.purseblog.com/celebrity-news-and-gossip/amanda-bynes-thread-90893-107.html#post27468293

But like some of you said, we don't know if she was taking it AS prescribed... :nogood:

This is so sad. Not sure if it has been discussed or come out to the media, but was she actually diagnosed with schizophrenia? I know she was placed in a psychiatric hospital, but I never heard is she was actually diagnoses with anything? Mental illness, especially schizophrenia, is such a sad, sad thing. Sending her prayers and hopes she gets the help and medication she needs.

Amanda Bynes is now in New York after her arrest on suspicion of DUI (driving under the influence) in Los Angeles last week.

The 28-year-old landed at JFK airport on Friday morning and later that same afternoon was spotted walking around the Upper East Side smoking a cigarette as she continued to wear a large bandage on her face.

The former child star looked disheveled with her blonde hair extensions in a tangle as she puffed on a cigarette while appearing to chat on her cell phone.

This is awful! What happened to her face? Why the big bandage? Why are her parents allowing this to happen again?

How did she go into a salon and come out with that mess? I know she probably can't help herself right now, but I would think a professional salon could do better than that! Honestly though, I hope she has some sincere friends that can help her get help since it seems her family doesn't think she needs any.
