Why are her parents allowing this to happen again?
The court did not put her in her parents care - they made her mother a conservator, which means she was legally responsible for her financial affairs. They didn't take away Amanda's rights or put anyone else in charge of her healthcare or life decisions. Her mother couldn't force her to take medication any more than she could withhold it if she wanted it! You guys are all acting like Amanda is a child or someone who's been found mentally unfit or incapable of making decisions on their own and that was NEVER the case (except for the initial hold). Is it sad? Yes. Is it a shame? Yes. But this is no different from the thousands of other mentally ill patients who refuse medical treatment and/or medications and the people who love them.
They say there's nothing wrong with her.
You answered the question yourself.. your friend takes the prescribed dosage. Amanda was most likely taking (far) more than a prescribed dosage (assuming it was even prescribed to her!) which would most definitely impair even a mentally stable person, let alone one with 'issues'.
