2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

I’m going to give myself a pat on the back for shopping my closet. I very much want a new black quick errands bag so I can give my YSL Lou camera bag a break. I’ve worn it so much since I bought it in 2020 during the height of the pandemic that I’m really tired of wearing it. (Side note: Kudos to the bag for looking great after over 200 wear!)

So, today, I came close to buying the Poline Tonca bag (very very close) but did two things prior. First, I looked at a ton of videos to gain realistic insight into the bag’s pros and cons. Then I went into my closet and looked at all of my black bags to uncover possible variety with what I already have.

Candidly, I don’t have a perfect trade off bag for the YSL Lou camera. But I’ve realized that I can swap it out at some times for my Louis Vuitton LockMe II BB and my Jimmy Choo mini Bon Bon. For both, I’ll just need to use a card case instead of my wallet to accommodate the slightly smaller capacities of the bags.

I’m not saying that I’ll never buy a swap out option for my YSL Lou camera. But I’ve at least identified some existing bags that I love (but haven’t worn enough) that I can work into the rotation. And any day I can happily delay purchasing a bag by wearing what I have is a good thing.

Yesterday, I was at the Tumi outlet and saw this interesting bag that was small but not tiny. It has a strap that converted the bag from a shoulder bag to a backpack. It would have made a great carefree bag. I left it behind but keep thinking about it as I had not seen a bag like this from them before. Shopping my closet is not always easy.
Shopping our closets is often really hard when we see a functional option that we know would benefit us. That’s why I mentioned my story. I’m struggling not to buy anything and need the support here to stay on track.

You did a good thing to give yourself time to think about it. Do you have other carefree bags that can meet this same need / opportunity?

I do! It just would have given me a bit more room and multiple options on how to wear it.

During the pandemic, I had my house renovated. Save for the kitchen which I totally remodeled, other parts of the house were just repaired/repainted. Looking back now, I should have asked a designer/architect to redesign my bedroom. I want built in cabinets/desks, and a way to expand my closet space. I am not sure I want to go through the hassle of having workers in the house again.
It was a great idea to do it during the pandemic. We were too afraid to have anyone inside the house except for one project that had to get done. If we had done everything they wanted during the pandemic, it would have been a lot cheaper.
I hate having workers in the house which is why I’m stacking these projects on top of each other. Once I get some peace, I won’t want to be bothered again.
I know exactly how you feel. DH says he refuses to go through that again. There are a few minor things that could be done but I think we are just going to live with them the way they are.

Just to update you on my new to me Chanel saga. I decided against the navy suit which felt a bit tight.

I bought this light and bright Chanel coat instead. The Camellia is not integral to the coat but it's in the same fabric so it matches. The pink-red crochet trim on the collar and cuffs is hand-crocheted. I will repurpose the belt or wear it over something else. I'm much more in love with this piece and it fits perfectly.

I will wear it to a Cartier book event this week and carry my Rouge H Bolide (if it's not raining).

It’s absolutely Stunning!

Far better than a too tight suit, which you may never have felt comfortable in anyway.

Wear it in good health!I Love it!❤️❤️❤️❤️

The fact that you are wearing it straightaway shows that it will be an excellent buy.

What a wonderful find.

I am slowly going through my bags . Some I adore and will keep even if they only get worn once a year. There are a couple I like the look of but some how just don’t get worn. So I have decided to let them go. This will make room for more that I actually adore and not just like. I have run out of extra space.
That has to feel go to have made a decisions about the bags you want to let go.

Are there lessons you can take from the bags you don’t wear / are letting go so that you become better at buying new bags?

I donated a bag yesterday I'd saved a few times from culling previously. I liked the look of it (check cloth with black leather trim Boston) but in no way was it unto the standard quality of other bags. Every time the 'perfect' occasion came along to carry it out, I carried another or I'd forget about it completely. I had to take an enormous wall clock at the same time so it went with it. It was good to make the decision.
