I would be remiss to not post for this week’s challenge as red and burgundy are my jam (if this seems like an insane amount of bags, every other week will only have a few to none).

Lastly, I need some advice from you wonderful, smart and creative people. I have this burgundy Hermes Tsako that is fairly wrecked in that the leather has flaked in multiple places. I’ve been told there is not much that can be done to rehab it. Should I just carry it regardless and enjoy it while it lasts? I love the color and style, it’s just very visibly not in good shape:

That leaves me with just one bag to consider - my Gucci mini Dionysus in Navy.

Pros: I looooooooove the look of this bag. And it has very special memories attached from when Mr. Sparkle gave it to me.

Cons: It’s rigid and too small to comfortably carry my things. (I tried the next size up but didn’t care for the look of that size.) I can get my basics in except for sunglasses. And since I’ve had 7 eye surgeries over my lifetime, sunglasses are a necessity for me - not a nice to have. But, I could put my sunnies on top of my head or just carry this bag after dark.

Another consideration. Because of the size, I’ve only carried this bag twice since Mr. S gave it to me in 2019. 😱

I realy struggle with this bag. In my heart, I know I won’t use it often. I could put its monetary value towards something I would love and use. But, I adore the look of the bag and wish I could make it work.

Help me! What should I do?
So the problem is that you love the bag, but it isn't terribly practical and you could use the money for something else. It doesn't sound like you're worried about closet space, or the ability to take care of it, just feeling bad that it isn't used as much as you would like.

Monetarily, I don't think you could reclaim that much. From what i've seen, that size tends to resell for $600-$900. So, with a consignment shop like AFF, you'd get maybe $480 if it sold at the mid price. I mean, it's not chicken feed, but it’s also not enough to buy a new premier designer bag.
(Which is a weird saying, because eventually chicken's food costs will add up. Like, $440 would feed 12 chickens for a year. Which would make the amount literally chicken feed. But I digress.)

For that $400-500, could you get a bag that you would love and use? or would you feel frustrated and disappointed? Would it create a gap in your collection?

I guess what I am saying is, if you're feeling divided, maybe it's time to wait.

Wow! What a wonderful selection of red and burgundy bags. I love that even though they are the same color family, they are all different styles. Simply lovely! I am surprised they can't repair the bag for you. I would try another repair place.

Sunshine in a handbag - great bag and scarf pairing!

@papertiger re: Which bag cheers you up on a dismal day?
I agree, colour will lift my spirits, the one I’ll share is this Chanel Cloudy Tie and Dye Purple, Blue & Pink Mini.
@Bag peace you recently asked if I’ve been wearing this. It was my second most frequently carried bag last year, and it joined my collection part way through the year!

I would be scared to wear this in the rain. It is very cheery though.

  • Thanks

There are things that can be done to rehab it that aren't exactly kosher but if it will help you enjoy carrying it, I don't see why not.Check with @docride https://forum.purseblog.com/threads...read-can-this-hermes-be-saved.972522/page-115 You could also ask in the Coach rehab thread for ideas. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club.833400/

These are all lovely - you’ve got all the bases covered!
This is pure sunshine. It would cheer anyone up.

I tend to wear Mz Wallace metallic or lacquer bags in bad weather. They can take it and the bit of shine makes me smile.View attachment 6131092View attachment 6131093View attachment 6131094
Love them! I keep looking for the Micro Sutton in this metallic shade.

No. That’s not what I’m saying.

The money is irrelevant. My concern about “value” is I hate having things that don’t add value to my life in my home. Having it in my total collection count, having it take up physical and mental space, yet not being able to use it grieves me.

My dilemma is I love the way it looks and it’s attached to special memories. An ideal solution would be to find a way to use it day to night. Keeping it as a darkness only bag will essentially mean I rarely wear it because I don’t often leave my house after dark to go anywhere (unless it’s the dead of winter and daylight savings time). Evening activities are usually preceded by dinner or simply other activities and errands.

I just need to put this aside for a few months and consider it with a fresh mindset then.

Have you ever had an “aha” moment that was so painfully obvious that you wondered why it didn’t come to you earlier? That happened to me today. So be aware that this epiphany of mine is common sense that I just was lacking. :whut:

I’ve struggled with feeling like I have sufficient diversity and variety in my collection. Yet that made no sense to me since I’ve typically owned 30-40 bags. What I realized today is I absolutely have variety but not in the oh so important workhorse category. But!!! Those are the bags I wear when I’m running errands, focused on functionality and, candidly, more likely to run into issues, serious considerations and / or be grumpy.

For those scenarios, I really only have 3 or 4 bags that I use. So, I get tired of them quickly. Because I used them a LOT, they don’t feel fun after a few too many trips to the doctor or a hardware store.

So, what I need to focus future acquisitions on is diversifying within that much used sector of my collection. No more evening / socializing / vacation / fun day bags. I need 3-4 more truly beautiful workhorses so that I can rotate more frequently out of the ones I have and ultimately enjoy carrying all of them.

This is the bag I carried today to look at lighting and other items for this (will it ever end) remodel.

I find Prada DZT / Galleria bags to be incredibly functional. So why don’t I own more of them or bags like them??? I’m close to getting sick of this bag and I don’t want to be. I think adding a pretty YSL Sac Du Jour would be a good choice. Maybe a Celine Belt Bag? Does anyone have the Belt Bag? I’d love to get your opinion on it.
