I’ve struggled with feeling like I have sufficient diversity and variety in my collection. Yet that made no sense to me since I’ve typically owned 30-40 bags. What I realized today is I absolutely have variety but not in the oh so important workhorse category. But!!! Those are the bags I wear when I’m running errands, focused on functionality and, candidly, more likely to run into issues, serious considerations and / or be grumpy.

For those scenarios, I really only have 3 or 4 bags that I use. So, I get tired of them quickly. Because I used them a LOT, they don’t feel fun after a few too many trips to the doctor or a hardware store.

So, what I need to focus future acquisitions on is diversifying within that much used sector of my collection. No more evening / socializing / vacation / fun day bags. I need 3-4 more truly beautiful workhorses so that I can rotate more frequently out of the ones I have and ultimately enjoy carrying all of them.

This is the bag I carried today to look at lighting and other items for this (will it ever end) remodel.

I find Prada DZT / Galleria bags to be incredibly functional. So why don’t I own more of them or bags like them??? I’m close to getting sick of this bag and I don’t want to be. I think adding a pretty YSL Sac Du Jour would be a good choice. Maybe a Celine Belt Bag? Does anyone have the Belt Bag? I’d love to get your opinion on it.

The money is irrelevant. My concern about “value” is I hate having things that don’t add value to my life in my home. Having it in my total collection count, having it take up physical and mental space, yet not being able to use it grieves me.

My dilemma is I love the way it looks and it’s attached to special memories. An ideal solution would be to find a way to use it day to night. Keeping it as a darkness only bag will essentially mean I rarely wear it because I don’t often leave my house after dark to go anywhere (unless it’s the dead of winter and daylight savings time). Evening activities are usually preceded by dinner or simply other activities and errands.

I just need to put this aside for a few months and consider it with a fresh mindset then.

I sold my smaller, nicer bags because they couldn't fit my readers. I hated that I wasn't using them so I sold them. Mine weren't as cute as yours. It was my Mulberry and Gucci Woc's. I think you are right sit on it for a bit and then decide.

Monetarily, I don't think you could reclaim that much. From what i've seen, that size tends to resell for $600-$900. So, with a consignment shop like AFF, you'd get maybe $480 if it sold at the mid price. I mean, it's not chicken feed, but it’s also not enough to buy a new premier designer bag.
(Which is a weird saying, because eventually chicken's food costs will add up. Like, $440 would feed 12 chickens for a year. Which would make the amount literally chicken feed. But I digress.)

For that $400-500, could you get a bag that you would love and use? or would you feel frustrated and disappointed? Would it create a gap in your collection?

I guess what I am saying is, if you're feeling divided, maybe it's time to wait.

I am fortunate not to have to carry my iPad or laptop often. If I do, I prefer a reinforced double handled tote.

But, I also am very slow to give up and donate stuff. Because I’m prone to regret, and I love some pieces so much that if I wear them only rarely, but enjoy, it may be worth it to me to allot them space in my wardrobe.

I do try to buy stuff only for the actual me; not the imaginary me; the past (usually thinner me); or the future me (if something I’m looking at would really look better on my mom, I try to think very hard before pulling that trigger).

Love your mix :heart:I think of your style as vintage relaxed with a bit of rocker punk and mine as a bit more uptight dark schoolgirl chic (for example, I cannot wear a Bal or a Gucci python without looking strange). (The Evelyn in larger sizes also looks strangely suburban on me) . Yet, you rely on your plume and a few bolides, that I think of as Uber structured, as workhorse bags. And, I rely on my slouchy Victorias but had to rehome my 40 clemence double sens as too unstructured and heavy… ;) Out of curiosity, does your plume slouch? I’ve been thinking of one for a very long time. Here is the one that I should have bought, that got away (it was a 32 dwitch) and I thought would be too big; I was an idiot for hesitating )

No slouching of my Plume. My 28 is Box leather. I think the 'waffle' certainly won't.

Seeing the mention of your H Chocolate Plume 28 makes my heart race. I love the look of that size.

I remember you said something like this the last time I did a big purge of my bags, and it was so enlightening! Thank you, it stuck with me.
