@dcooney4 I wonder if you could have it made into something else, with your brother's permission. Your cobbler can probably turn it into a zipped pouch or a small wallet. There's enough material to cut it up and make something else entirely out of it. Do you think he would mind, if you explained to him that you love it and the sentiment behind it, but it's not functioning as a bag (not enough space to carry your stuff, or strap falls off your shoulder, for example) and would like his permission to have it reworked into a wallet/pouch/belt?

I happily broke my handbag ban after 2 months with the Azariah bag from Cult Gaia. I have several beachy vacations coming up (staring with a cruise next month) and wanted something that feels summery but can be worn with dresses, to nice dinners, etc and this seems to be a perfect answer.

I haven’t yet received the bag but this is it in a stock photo. The front and back are raffia with the trim, handle and sides in leather.

Interestingly, its similar the Loewe Gate bag that I already have (pictured below) But the Azariah feels more refined and will work better for evenings and dressier outings. It also will go with more colors since it’s neutral and doesn’t have the dark caramel leather IMG_2773.jpeg
I can’t wait to get the bag in. :happydance:

Side note: I have to admit I was intrigued about supporting Cult Gaia as it’s a woman owned company and they have a commitment to communty. They recently launched a foundation to help women and chldren.

(From their announcement:smile:

“TODAY, WE'RE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF THE CULT GAIA FOUNDATION, CREATED TO SUPPORT WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN NEED THROUGHOUT LOS ANGELES. AFTER RECENTLY WELCOMING HER OWN CHILD. OUR FOUNDER WAS DEEPLY MOVED BY THE THOUGHT OF FAMILIES FACING HARDSHIP IN THIS POSTPARTUM PERIOD WITHOUT THE SAFETY AND COMFORT OF A HOME. THIS MOMENT HAS PROPELLED US TO PROVIDE DIRECT RELIEF AND LONG-TERM SUPPORT FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. WHILE WE WILL BE PROVIDING IMMEDIATE RELIEF THROUGH ORGANIZATIONS LIKE BIRTHFUND, THE CULT GAIA FOUNDATION ALLOWS US TO DEEPEN OUR COMMITMENT AND EXPAND HOW WE GIVE BACK IN A LASTING WAY. IN THE PAST WEEK, WE'VE DONATED WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS TO THOSE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY THE DEVASTATING FIRES, BUT WE KNOW THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.”

You see how hard it is for me to repurpose bags. So while I think it’s unique and could be a statement piece, I wouldn’t over think it. (I’m giving my 12 bags in question 60 days each for a hard decision.)

If it’s not your style and isn’t practical to carry, I’d sell or donate it. I can’t stand bags taking up my mental and physical space in a negative way. And I, personally, would find it hard to use this bag because I don’t typically like clutches.
If I had bought it myself it would be easy to know what to do. It was a gift and I need to wear it or use it some how to not hurt feelings.

That is a great idea . I will think on it.

I love that handle!

My challenge is not to buy anything that isn’t perfect and forever for my particular taste, and also to realize when I have enough. And, be content with what I have.

Instead of an expensive bag, we bought a ceramic metal mixed media sculpture from a contemporary Japanese artisan in a gallery in tokyo. We were taken to 14 galleries by an art curator; otherwise we would not have been able to navigate the Japanese art scene at all.
I had realized that I wear only 10% of my bags 90% of the time, even though I love all my bags. So, art that we can enjoy every day seems like far better cost per wear lol.

And, we’re going on more ski trips. I’m determined to aggressively shop my closet in the meantime and take stuff that I love that I haven’t had as much chance to wear

I love this for you! IMO supporting artists and enjoying art is so important for both our mental health and our human culture overall.

(And feel free to join me in my rotation challenge for 2025. My goal is to wear 2/3 of my collection at least 4 times this year.)

I don’t know if people are interested in the challenge, but I made a calendar:

ANNUAL COLOR WEEK BAG SHOWCASE!!

A long standing trading (10 years and counting!) is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them by color. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

To make this celebration fun, we share bags of a certain color each week.

COLOR WEEK BAG SHOWCASE!

• New color weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show pictures from previous years (2016-2024) or even just one photo from when you started your collection to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

COLOR WEEKS

Feb. 9: Red (including burgundy)

Feb. 16: Orange & Yellow

Feb. 23: Purple & Pink

Mar. 1: Blue & Indigo (including turquoise & teal)

Mar. 8: Green

Mar. 15: Black

Mar. 22: Gray

Mar. 29: White & Cream

Apr. 5: Brown & Tan

Apr. 12: Metallic (gold, silver, bronze and more!)

Apr. 19: Jeweled and all other embellished

Apr. 26: Multicolored

If you have posted in previous years, you can search the previous threads to find old photos of your bags to share the journey of your curation

I absolutely love the sculpture!

And (I’m useless at highlighting or quoting), as I’m attempting not buying clothes until April, I’m Also shopping my closet and wearing things I don’t use regularly.
It’s actually been surprisingly easy so far, but by April I will be sprinting to the boutiques!

It’s not a challenge. It’s an activity to get everyone excited about and reintroduced to their own closets. We always want to keep this light in spirit to allow people to float on and out as makes them happy.

We usually do the monthly challenges concurrently because many people don’t want to share photos of their bags for various reasons and it still gives them ways to play with and enjoy their bags.
