Still on the fence about donating the 1960s beaded bag, I will never find another like it, on the other hand, will I ever use it?
I donated a metallic mesh mini bag with an attached, retractable/ extendable, unique bottle cap top, all of which was hand machined in the US. I never wore it, but I deeply miss it. I still regret letting it go. Just saying ….

In another thread, you mentioned a mistake in sleeve shortening. Been there, done that. A loss of a few key inches can throw off the proportions of the entire piece. *

I also once thought how hard could it be to shear my own mink with men’s electric clippers. The little individual mink hairs became imbedded in between the slats of the hardwood floor and stuck out just enough to be hard to vacuum but feel like nails on bare feet. And , I never evened it out 😂

How boring would life be if we never learned these lessons 😂

*whats worse is if you do this against the advice of your tailor and then try to fix it.. bracelet … to elbow … to short sleeve, and then have yo admit defeat

I'm making end of season trips to the countryside this weekend and next and very cleverly leaving some clothes in each place. Older sundresses and clothes suitable for gardening/forest walks - I never use them in the city and this way there's less to pack and more free space at home. Now I just need to be disciplined about keeping lists of what I have where.

You and I are style soul sisters

I hear you on the the vintage bag. I'll post a pic tomorrow of the bag in question.

I once cut a pair of new knee high boots to make ankle boots but I had to keep folding and tuck-in the zip, drove me mad.

You remind me I have a shaved mink Fendi that's out of this world - if I could find it I would love to wear it this year. You can't tell it's fur, it looks like velvet.

There are also 2 pairs of boots on the chopping block. Jadon DMs in gunmetal glitter (nice for Holiday) and iconic black Buffalo boots. I have never been able to wear the Jadons in and they've given me blisters, I guess most DMs do, it just hurts to persevere. The Buffalo hurt to let go because I remember how long I had to save up for them. Perhaps if I sold them I'd feel OK about them going.

💯   :D

Didn’t @vintageleather have a clutch lending library for bags she didn’t wear but couldn’t part with ?

Perhaps @cowgirlsbootsor another contributor to this thread can opine 😂

Mistakes happen, regrets follow...
It's a learning curve.

I had the perfect pair of posh jeans, suit pants style. They fit like a glove, but were quite long and only wearable with heels. I shortened them to my usual jeans length and totally ruined the look: instant frumpyness!
Luckily DS liked them and the new length is good for him. Next time I'll pin and try before cutting!

You made me laugh with the mink shearing story. Shame about the wasted fur and the ever lasting reminder in the shape of pesky little hairs. I totally know what you are speaking about from working with fur myself.

What about taking photos of the wardrobe as a visual reminder what is where?

After leaving so many of my vintage bags behind and heavily regretting some of my decisions I can only recommend to simply box and store away any vintage bag one is unsure about. Most of them, especially the non designer bags, simply cannot be sourced again.

Today I found a bag in the corner of my closet that screams autumn.

Now I ' m looking forward to wearing it soon.
It's a very sentimental piece that belonged to my late aunt. In her younger years she used to be very stylish and move in affluent circles. This Goldpfeil bag is a relict from these times. It's croc or alligator ( sorry, I don't know enough to identify the leather correctly) . After she passed I found it in a corner of her attic. The interior had disintegrated, the zipper was broken, but she had kept it for all these years. It must have held memories.

I did a very basic job of relining and replacing the zip - another regret! This certainly wasn't the bag to experiment on when you don't know what you are doing. Still it's pretty from the outside. And still with me!

More clearing up and donating today. A bit of everything, shoes trousers, dresses, vintage shimmy tops that were always a bit big and a couple of newer high-street mistakes. Still on the fence about donating the 1960s beaded bag, I will never find another like it, on the other hand, will I ever use it?

I bought a book called The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron that was recommended to me. It's an old book but it's become very popular again. I am usually wary of best seller 'self-help' type things but this one sounded interesting. I am in a space where I can watch a mindless YT vid but can't lose myself in a proper film or novel so I think a book I can read in tiny chunks should be good.

Sticking with the non-black neutrals, Navy crossbody Emmy today, in fact navy top-to -toe (save an orange H scarf and tan clogs) including a navy University of Virgina polo shirt I was given many years ago and came across when clearing up.

How is everyone else doing? What are your Autumn bag goals?
I bought the book a while ago too and have yet to read it. I have to many others to read first. Let me know what you think. Maybe hold on to the beaded bag until you are sure. I have been trying to get rid of stuff almost daily.

Will do and will do.

I have other books to read too but this looks like it's one of those books I can dip into and out again. I don't have the concentration for deep or long reads atm
