2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

I can't believe we are halfway through the month already. I have been moisturizing some of my leather bags. I usually make sure my bags are clean before I store them back in their dust bags. I am still trying to figure out how to make the gifted Crocodile bag work for me. What bags do you have that you would like to make work for you?
Remind me please, what is not working for you with your crocodile bag. Have you shown us a picture? I must be blanking on what you shared about it.

Going into 2025, I had 12 bags I was evaluating for keep / modify / consign / sell decisions. I’ve actively worked on them and am down to just 5 whose fate I need to decide. They’re listed in order of my desire to keep the bag.

• YSL So Black Cabas Tote - I’ll keep this bag regardless. But, I’m ordering an organizer in hopes that will make it less saggy.

Gucci mini navy Dionysus shoulder bag: Beautiful in every way except it’s too small. I need to wear it a couple more times. If I just can’t deal with it, I’ll sell. :crybaby:

Fendi silver flowered WOC: Sigh, I love this bag but it’s showing wear and silver metallic scratches aren’t repairable. I’ll sell it whenever I find a replacement but I’m not actively looking.

• Jimmy Choo red Cheri tote - Leather Surgeons said new straps would cost more than I paid for the bag 😱so I sent pics to AFF for a consignment quote. Fingers crossed.

Prada brown Logo Bauletto - This bag irks me. :yucky: It grates on my nerves to own it. I’m just waiting on AFF consignment quote and will list for sale if that ends up being too low.

Being fully cognizant that the Prada was the last bag I bought in my 2024 buying frenzy, I am continuing to breathe and pause when I want to buy. I was feeling an irrational BUY craving today so I got myself some yummy tea and focused on buying decor items for my remodel. Crisis averted. I purchased what I needed vs self soothed with a bag I didn’t. Yay!

It was a gift but the strap is shoulder length woven attached strap. It is interesting but not really my style. If I use the strap the leather on the side will tear. It had a slight tear when I received it . I brought it to the cobbler and he glued it and it has a bit of leather on the inside back to strengthen it , but I don’t know what to do with it. My brother was very excited when he gave it to me. I like the color but just don’t know what to do with it.

That is a very cool bag. Can you hand carry as if it were a clutch?

I would wear it with jeans and brown shoes/boots in a coordinating (not matching) color. I also think it would be great with earth tones: burgundy, navy, forest green, cream - even a deep but cool shade of pumpkin or gold.

If you have any rustic, boho or Western styled clothing, I think it would be fun with that.

I’d also wear it with an all black outfit and let it be the star.

Last note. I recently found out there are handbag “cages” or straps that go around a bag and become it’s new straps. Maybe that could be an option as well.

So I would just like to share this tip: buy yourself a leather punch! I’m trying to reduce my bag collection for an upcoming move and I’m assessing why I don’t use many of my bags and I realized straps being the wrong length was the reason for several of my bags I want to keep. It sounds so simple now but it’s been life changing already! I just punched so many bag straps and belts

Thank you! Great suggestions!

I’ve been thinking about changing my burgundy Fendi mini BonBon. As is, it feels too plain for a mini bag. IMO it needs… something to feel more like handbag as jewelry and to stand out. It really has no presence as is.

So, my plan is to add gold studs to the bottom along with a thin gold chain to replace the thin (uninspiring) leather shoulder strap. I’m thinking this will work because it’s actually how several of the F BBs were designed (with a row of alternating size pearls or studs like the black one pictured.)

I could buy studs on Amazon and just go to a local cobbler to have this done so I think the minimal effort is worth the real possibility of transforming the bag from junk to treasure.

Thoughts?

That's difficult. It's not my style either. I would probably use it around the home as decor and to hold odds and ends.

Good question! If I can make it more of a cocktails / parties / brunch / vacations bag the size will be fine. I don’t carry much more than sunglasses, card case, lip color and keys during those times which this would fit.

But with it being so plain (& boring) it feels like it should be more utilitarian daily wear and I need mediumish sized (and good looking) bags for that usage.

I’m curious. How can bags be used as decor?
Sitting on an end table, while also storing things. I don't currently use bags for decor but I think it could work. When I realized my coffee table looked a bit messy with all the things I keep on it, like TV changers, I got a decorative basket to put everything in. I have a decorative bowl on the end table that holds my kindle among other things.

I have a tote full of my crochet projects next to the couch.

I love the idea of studs on a tiny bag. It makes it fierce and edgy.

I thought about that too, but I don't have anywhere to put it. It would roll away which makes it more difficult. For now, it is taking space up in my bag closet.
You see how hard it is for me to repurpose bags. So while I think it’s unique and could be a statement piece, I wouldn’t over think it. (I’m giving my 12 bags in question 60 days each for a hard decision.)

If it’s not your style and isn’t practical to carry, I’d sell or donate it. I can’t stand bags taking up my mental and physical space in a negative way. And I, personally, would find it hard to use this bag because I don’t typically like clutches.
