2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

With BuyNothing, you post and people message you. When you select the recipient of your thing, you tell them where to go to pick it up (end of driveway, meet someone at a coffee shop, local landmark, ect) If they flake, or cancel, move on to the next person.

It works if you don’t have a donation center near you, or if you want to know where you thing is going.

It can also be a pita
Thanks for explaining. I’m not willing to message and coordinate for low value items. There are too many flaky people.

I’ll call a charity service once I have everything boxed and they can pick it all up.

I’m glad @dcooney4 gave you a solution. There’s no way I’d part with vintage bags with great leather.

I’ve heard of buy nothing. Do you post and then people pick up? I could do porch pick up by appointment? Or do you just set things out and whoever gets it first wins? I’m confused on that part. I don’t want anyone angry on my porch if someone got the item first. I also don’t want to go back and forth on ANYTHING for a free giveaway.

The more I think about it, I’d rather donate everything. I don’t want to take the time for zero gain.
The buy nothing I belong to on FB is done a bit differently. You post a picture and then after 24 hours you pick which person you want to give it to. That way everyone gets a chance. You arrange pick up with them privately. No one is allowed to contact you privately until you pick them or they get tossed from the group. I usually do a driveway pickup near my garage. Can't have them near my porch or my dogs go ape. There are different buy nothing groups just read the rules and see if you are comfortable with it.

I cannot believe that it’s the 16th of January already(so sorry to take the subject away from selling!).

I don’t know where this year is going …

Apart from my day out on the 10th, when I did see some beautiful clothes, I haven’t felt deprived at all-it hasn’t felt like a ban or deprivation in the slightest.

The 2 suits I like still haven’t sold in my size (IT36), which is very frustrating , they’re not reduced, I stayed away from Harrods which might have stocked them.

I think January will be quite easy for my resolution , Haute Couture week will test me, but I bought a lot in Q4 of 2024, and need a detox.
By the time I shop again…IF (IF) I stick to this, I will be more than ready.

The second part of my resolution is no mistakes, no returns, so everything has to be perfect this year.

Luckily my girlfriend is buying clothes, so we are always busy, and my Mum is so poorly that I am most definitely not wishing the year away.

ETA I do not buy couture any more-that was decades ago in my 20’s and very early 30’s…a lifetime away-it just inspires me to go and buy beautiful clothes!

I love the color show cases. We get to see some gorgeous bags and get reminded of what we have in our collection too.
I do too! They’re more fun to me than the brand showcases. Probably because I buy based on color and style - not brand.

With the exception of when I bought the first of my Chanels over a decade ago (WOW time flies!), I’ve never in my life awakened thinking: “I need a random bag from brand X.” It’s more akin to how I’m thinking about my next potential purchase: “Hmm, I need a structured medium sized bag in burgundy.”

It will be interesting to see if others say they want to do the color showcase. It’s more fun when we get good participation.
The second part of my resolution is no mistakes, no returns, so everything has to be perfect this year.
This used to be a standing resolution for me every year and it served me well. It’s what got me out of the cycle of impulse buying and trend following. As a result, I had many years with zero regrets and just a few purchases that I love to this day.

That’s why I returned to this mindset this year. “Bag Peace” for me isn’t a state of never buying. It’s a place of enjoying what I have so I have no buying mania and therefore very carefully select a limited number of perfect pieces that I’m both madly in love with and use. Some years, that number is zero and that’s great too!

This is the first year I’m applying this rule to my clothes. I’m not buying anything new til I get back to my normal weight but when I do, I’ll only buy high quality items that I love and will have staying power in my closet.

I mentioned we are doing a gut renovation of our primary bedroom / bathroom / closet.

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

While I really do like the contractor I picked and their thorough and methodical approach, I WANT BACK INTO MY SPACE!

Currently, we’re living in one of the guest rooms, my furniture, clothes and other items are crammed in the great room and my bags and jewelry are “living” in bins in my art room. (So I can’t do any art projects other than sketching during this time either!)

I mention all this because it’s hard to shop your collection when it’s looking so sad - like cast away orphans. Instead of browsing my bags beautifully arranged on their shelves, I’m browsing my handbag list on my phone.

Oh well. 7 more weeks and we should (SHOULD!!!!) be done. IMG_2695.jpeg

I feel for you! It is hard to know what you have and use it when it isn't displayed. You'll have a gorgeous bedroom when they're done and it'll have been so worth it!

We'll probably never do another remodel. It is so disruptive. There are little things that could be done but I don't know if we'll even do those.

Yeah, this is it for me. I am going to redecorate my great room but that’s just paint, furniture and decor - no construction. I’m never doing another remodel.

If for some unforeseen reason we move again, the next house will have to be perfect except for the most minor of things.

I’m getting excited about my decision to shop my closet and redesign my Bvlgari bucket. I sent it to Leather Surgeons and they just sent me options for the shoulder chain. (We’re using the existing leather hand strap as the shoulder pad for the strap.)

I picked the silver one which they’ll plate in gold. This strap will be removable so I can also buy a chain arm carry strap and have options.

I can’t wait to get the updated bag!

If only it was this easy to make the other bags I want to sell into bags I love. But, at least, this looks like it’s going to be a win!

I’m going to have some fun rethinking the last 5 bags I have for sale. Who knows what I may come up with. And every bag saved is a win!

I hear you! I did two kitchen remodels within a five year period (two different houses) amd 15 years later I still balk at the thought of another one. At some point I'm going to need to do one for my city apartment, but I need to plan it so I can live at the summer house and just drive back to check on progress as needed.

Accountability time: I'm not keeping up with the Apartmenttherapy January cure but will make a push this weekend. Questioning why I hang on to my black Evelyne TPM which I hardly ever reach for. I think it's mostly knowing how hard if would be to buy one again if I changed my mind about it.

Based on you reporting that you’re doing the AT Jan Cure, I just signed up! i’m looking forward to the fun yet productive distraction.

I can't believe we are halfway through the month already. I have been moisturizing some of my leather bags. I usually make sure my bags are clean before I store them back in their dust bags. I am still trying to figure out how to make the gifted Crocodile bag work for me. What bags do you have that you would like to make work for you?
