The purse gods are giggling. The Cult Gaia bag that I bought just came in and it’s a NOPE!

This bag was much prettier and looked better quality in pictures than in person. View attachment 6121254

I’m sleepy so I’m going to quickly bullet point my issues
• It’s overweighted on one side so it keeps rolling to one side then flopping onto it’s back.
• The beautiful metal accent on the handle is split in two with an obvious, large seam
• The magnetic clasp is weak. I could see it failing with just a few wear.
• The raffia is woven in a way that seems skimpy vs the two other raffia bags I have (Prada and Loewe).
• The leather trim is unremarkable.

I’m going to RUN to post and return this. :whut: How disappointing. I’d be scared of buying anything from Cult Gaia again. I fully expected a lower level of quality than I’ve gotten used to but this is ridiculous.

Does anyone have a good experience from the brand to share?
I am sorry it was a disappointment but thank goodness it is new so you can return and don't have to resell.

What a shame! The first thing my eye went to was that split in the handle.

A return window is a must. I’m 100% committed to only buying that which avoids me reselling later.

And to it being new, I’m also a bit “off” of buying preloved. I’m still somewhat ok with resale if the seller + brand + model are ones I trust. Otherwise, I’m going back to buying new. I like my bags pristine and transactions without the lies & surprises that are becoming more common. 🤪

Yes!!! It’s so unnecessary. A continuous curved piece could have easily been produced - that isn’t high tech workmanship. Why would they make this choice? Plus, I was so surprised it felt unbalanced in my hand. I’ve never even knew that could be a possibility with a bag.

This would have been the first non premier bag in my collection in years. I was excited to get something with a unique design and no obvious branding and hoped off the beaten path contemporary brands (as opposed to one that mimics premier styles like a Michael Kors) might be able to scratch that itch for novelty that I have.

I refuse to believe this lack of quality workmanship is now ubiquitous across contemporary brands. So, I’m going to poke around to understand who (premier or contemporary) does breakthrough design at great quality without bespoke / custom cost. LVMH is dumbing down design and I just can’t pay premier pricing for bags that look just a hair off of everything else and are all but encrusted with logos.

On a different note, I’m sending the Fendi Mon Tresor to consignment. I liked my idea to upgrade but it was going to take time to find someone who could affix the studs. (Time I don’t have to spare with this remodel and my mission of getting healthier.)

And since I’d be dealing with a new cobbler, I couldn’t trust they wouldn’t ruin the bag.

It’s easier to simply be rid of it, let someone else love it and allow myself to be open to a new something spectacular in the future.

I’m so frustrated. I listed all of my currently for sale items on Poshmark and they all disappeared. I’ve reached out to PM’s CS twice and have only gotten automated acknowledgment of my outreach. They haven’t responded and the items aren’t reinstated.

I have always hated PM and this solidifies that I’m going to delete the app.
Poshmark CS is the worst, I don't know what you have to do to get to an actual human rep there. That site is becoming increasingly unusable. I have a few things for there on sale, but I'm thinking of pulling them and just sending whatever I can to TRR.

Well, Poshmark effectively pulled them for me. It’s actually pushed me to be more assertive in sending my things to Ann’s Fabulous Finds. So far, I’m sending them 3 bags and waiting on a quote for a 4th. The quotes they’re giving me have been what I would have gotten selling on my own so, ultimately, it’s worked out for my benefit. I can get them out of my home and off my mind while they do the work of selling for me.

Sorry everyone, I haven't had time to participate very much since NY.

Actually, I have been so boring with my bags this month. My H Evie is more comfort blanket than merely default and I have needed my briefcase for my laptop. However, yesterday I challenged myself because I only needed my ipad.

Smaller than it looks on the pic below, it's around 30cm across. This bag is around 65 years old! Made for Harrods (by Launer). It's polished calf concertina style hybrid handbag document case in oxblood red-brown.

Glad you are getting them out.

I hope everybody is doing well.

I impulse purchased a handbag. Sometimes we mess up and that's okay - we're only human and sometimes we falter, especially when we're under stress. This is me saying that making a mistake doesn't derail the process you've made. It's important to celebrate how far we've come and the places we have yet to be. It's something I'll definitely use ; however, next time I hope I am able to fight the temptation. Be kind to yourselves, please.

That’s such a reasonable solution. I feel silly for not thinking of it. I don’t have a cobbler in my city that I trust but perhaps I could see if someone like Leather Surgeons or Rago Brothers could help. I just wonder if they could match the leather. With the buckles, they can’t simply add chain to lengthen. :thnking:

But unless they can do an exact match, I don’t think it would work.
Wouldn't it be posiible to add chain links between the leather part that goes into the buckles and the upper handle part? Just an idea...

We’re shut in the house by a wintry mix that’s closed down the city. (Ugh!) So, I won’t have any bag carries for a while.

But! That frees up time for me to think about bag #5 of 10 to be exited. My Max Mara Black Large Whitney. (Stock photos)

I use this bag for interviews and more formal business meetings… which means it hasn’t gotten much use lately. It’s sleek, has no logo, fits a laptop and has great internal organization. So, it’s perfect in every way EXCEPT that it’s heaaaaavy!

The weight combined with my expectation of limited future us is why I want to sell. However, despite the beautiful level of quality, these bags aren’t well known and sell quite poorly. It will probably sit on sale for over a year and IF it sells, it would be for only a few hundred dollars

So, I’m wondering if I should just keep it. Having things up for sale keeps energy tied up and this would be for next to no gain.

Opinions wanted and welcome. Has anyone come up with a solution for their heavy bags?
I love this bag! Heavy or not ( lots of my bags seem to be heavy and I always manage to carry around too much stuff and make them even heavier) , I wouldn't part with it. It's totally timeless and looks like the perfect mixture of edgy and quiet luxury.
