2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

Sitting on an end table, while also storing things. I don't currently use bags for decor but I think it could work. When I realized my coffee table looked a bit messy with all the things I keep on it, like TV changers, I got a decorative basket to put everything in. I have a decorative bowl on the end table that holds my kindle among other things.

I have a tote full of my crochet projects next to the couch.
I use my huge vintage straw basket/ tote as a wastepaper basket next to my desk.

So accurate! I have tried many times to give things away, not trash but useful items and all they need to do is come get the stuff, but no one wants to come get free stuff. It’s insane. I end up putting it on the curb and it’s usually gone in a few hours
That's strange that people don't make an effort for free things.
I love browsing the curb in trash collection days and always am very happy about nice finds. My bedside tables for example are a curb find as is my desk which needed a lot of repairs.
At the last flea market I was gifted a dress nobody wanted. Yippeh! It kept me busy for the last week and I ' m very excited to see it become mine.

Sorry everyone, I haven't had time to participate very much since NY.

Actually, I have been so boring with my bags this month. My H Evie is more comfort blanket than merely default and I have needed my briefcase for my laptop. However, yesterday I challenged myself because I only needed my ipad.

Smaller than it looks on the pic below, it's around 30cm across. This bag is around 65 years old! Made for Harrods (by Launer). It's polished calf concertina style hybrid handbag document case in oxblood red-brown.

I love it! The shine of the leather is so beautiful!

DS and I have been sick for the last two weeks. Thank- you, school! He had full fledged bronchitis and happily passed his germs on to me.
While he seems to be fit to go back to school on Monday I ' m still fairly miserable and haven't been able to do much more than sit on the sofa and keep my hands busy with " embroidery". The free dress from the fleemarket came in handy... I finished my scribbles tonight and now am curious whether my idea actually worked out. It still needs pressing.

Bag wise I' ve been very boring and still haven't changed out of the green YSL.
The shearling bag I made a while ago keeps staring at me accusingly from the corner of the room. I'd love to wear it, but it doesn't go with my current go- to coats.

I'm sorry you're sick. As much as I miss having kids in the house, we haven't been catching things much since they grew up. After I grew up, my mom worked in a preschool just to keep busy. I could never do that as much as I love kids because I'd be sick all the time.

Wouldn't it be posiible to add chain links between the leather part that goes into the buckles and the upper handle part? Just an idea...
I think the Swarovski crystal buckles are such show stoppers that the chain links would take away from the bag.

I’ve made peace with this going to someone else’s home. Plus, I still have the small velvet shoulder bag version that I can actually use and enjoy. ;) (Here’s a photo from Fashionphile of one just like I have although thankfully mine is still pristine.)IMG_2867.jpeg
I love this bag! Heavy or not ( lots of my bags seem to be heavy and I always manage to carry around too much stuff and make them even heavier) , I wouldn't part with it. It's totally timeless and looks like the perfect mixture of edgy and quiet luxury.
Yes. I gave this one long hard thought. It has to be one of my most exquisitely well made bags and looks sooooo luxe when worn. I can’t give her up. I’ll just be mindful not to over pack her.

And, the discussion about it here on tPF had a happy bonus. I’m taking @dcooney4 ’s suggestion and creating a documents go bag. I won’t be using this one for that purpose but I have gotten a fireproof / water resistant bag that I’m putting important papers, cash, etc. into. If something happens, I can grab thet and my regular go bag and evacuate. I already have my emergency “go box” in my car trunk where it never leaves.

I think it’s bizarre when people don’t want free or even deeply discounted items. I listed a pair of like new bar stools on FB marketplace for just 10% of what I paid for them. I STILL received low ball offers and ultimately, none of the many people I agreed to sell them to ever followd up to set up a pick up time. To charity they go!

I’m seriously out of the selling game. I’m consigning the few unwanted things of value I have left and taking the rest to charity next month. And…DONE!

As a related side note, I’m trying for my version of a no spend 2025. I say “my version” because I have budgeted areas of spend - like for my primary suite remodel or a set dollar amount allocated to clothing. My no spend means that outside of those pre determined (thoughtful) allocations, I’ll spend zero. As a person who likes neatness / things in their place / order and craves minimalism, extra stuff in my home is extremely stressful to me. (Yep. This is reaction to growing up in my mom’s hoarding with my dad yelling about it all the time.)

It’s too easy to pick up a doo dad here or make an extra Target run there. And what happens? I end up wondering stupid things like why do I have crystal brandy snifters when we don’t drink brandy. I’m not living in an episode of Mad Men. :roflmfao: So, no spend for me this year.

I’m not doing no spend-I’m just testing my will power, and amazingly I’ve nearly done a month.

Next month starts fashion weeks for Fall Winter 2025/26, which I’ll be glued to, and it will be very difficult , and in April my resolution ends with a day out for my birthday.

But I May remake it after that day for another 3 months .I haven’t decided yet…and it Does only include clothing, not footwear, bags, jewellery etc.

I’m also going on holiday later this year and will be shopping then.

I’m just restricting When I can shop, and also planning a zero mistakes year….

I succeeded with my day out in January, although I Did come close to buying clothes..but I’m not planning a no spend year, that’s Too difficult !

Congrats on making progress with your goal. It seems to be making you happy and working out well for you. Keep up the happy work!

For me, no spend makes me happy because I can’t stand shopping (I do 90% online to keep myself from having to enter a store), it’s fun to save money and having “stuff” without a purpose in my space makes me extremely frustrated. I literally only like buying handbags, jewelry or well designed furniture / home decor. Anything else is a burden.

When I’m spending without deliberate pre-thought it’s a sign I’m not doing well for whatever reason - illness, too busy with work travel, distracted, etc. So, this is me getting back to a happy norm. :amuse:

I love how different we are on this thread. The diversity here always means I get a fresh perspective and new ideas.

I virtually only like buying clothes and jewellery, so we are not so different!❤️

The differences between the people make this thread very special. I enjoy the different approaches and points of view very much especially because they are shared in a friendly "safe space" way without judgement.

You made me smile and immediately go: " touche'".
I am one of the hopeless virtual storytellers who would have the Mad Men props and many more just for the beauty of the picture.
With my flat so small I try to reign in my hoarding and mainly limit it to my wardrobe and shoes- items I own for their storytelling and might never be able to wear.
My latest dress project is called Marla....

The no spend concept would take away all the fun for me. I need the few fleemarket and second hand/ charity shop shopping sprees I get for my sanity. It's a combinaion of treasure hunt and sensible shopping for for example household items I actually need without the guilt of paying the crazy prices in the shops. I try hard to avoid random purchases, though.

Stunning! And, I like the comfort of vintage ( though of course a structured bag like this isn’t as cuddly as your evie

@cowgirlsboots , hope you and DS feel better soon. Cannot wait to see your embroidered scribbles on the new to you dress too :)
