I think this should be the mentality for every year's HP. People should get what they love and don't fall for the scarcity/elusive tactics, or the public's hype. Even if it's not being offered, there'll be more HP's in the following years. Tbh, none of the HP's are that profitable in the prelove market. I was in Japan a few months ago and saw many shops have preloved HP's, included the popular ones like pink porcelain and rhodonite being sold at or below the retail price, other colors are being sold at even lower price point.
That’s interesting. Do you know what area in Japan those shops were? Looking to get pink porcelain below or close to retail if possible. Thanks

You said it well. VCA in general does not hold value because of the mark up that comes from Richemont/VCA. HPs are seasonal hot items that indicate your fortune/luck at that particular time. Wearing the 2017 HP does not get you the same attention. You have to really get to the very expensive and very exclusive and very limited pieces to have any chance of investment collectability. This applies to virtually all luxury house items. Birkins and Kelly Bags hold value usually. That's not the case for many of the other Hermes stuff.

The HP is like a cheap G Wagon. G Wagons plummet in value. In a way, that's the point. If you have one, you are wealthy enough to not care about 40% depreciation on a USD $200K car.

It seems to me that VCA is trying to create an illusion of scarcity, and also save some money by not having to create promotional materials for the HP. I mean, if they can get away with it, I don’t knack them for trying.

I really wouldn’t be worried about getting this year’s pendant. The reception is notably divided and lukewarm. In years when the HP has mass popularity and buyer competition, the attention on this thread and on social media is so much more obvious. I would be willing to bet money that everyone who actually wants this year’s holiday pendant will be able to get one from retail. Using me as an example, I bought 3 of last year’s celadon pendants for my family — which VCA was trying to push as “exclusive,” “VIP,” and “limited.”

Also, I wouldn’t buy the HP for the purpose or expectation of resale. Not every year’s HP has a market. If the stone isn’t popular or you can’t find a buyer, then you’re stuck with an item you won’t wear. The HPs that feature exclusive materials or rare colors are the most coveted. This year’s obsidian is going to be a part of the permanent collection, from what we know. I’ve never resold my VCA before, but I watch the market for secondhand items. I don’t know where the myth comes from that every year’s HP is an investment, or holds its value. It’s really not akin to a Birkin or Kelly — which even for those items do not gain resale value for every size, style, material, or color.

The bullseye pendant was a bit too similar to tigers-eye and letterwood in the market. Similarly, this year’s pendant is a bit too similar to onyx and gray mother-of-pearl. I would only get the 2023 HP if you want a slightly more carefree version of gray mop.

If you’re debating it, I would wait to think it over, since I can already predict this item will be in stores for a long time. I would also weigh the other items on your wishlist and consider your imagined excitement for what next year’s HP will be.
I could not have said it better! I started collecting holiday pendants in 2018. When I found out that the 2018 pendant was yellow mother of pearl, I was initially not too keen as it is not popular in my culture and there is a saying that it is like the yellowing of skin as we age.

I still remember - on the launch date, TPF was abuzzed with excitement and there were tons of photos posted by members. I was so curious, I visited the boutique after lunch. It was a VCA from the imagination - long queues outside; 2 storeys packed with customers. Everyone was smiling; everyone was happy and looking at other stuff. It felt like Xmas came early. Many people (including myself) left with more than a holiday pendant. To-date, my 2018 pendant is still my most loved piece.

This year, I brought my sister (who is keen to start her own VCA journey) to my local boutique. The boutique was quiet and subdued. There were more SAs and hardly any customers. The SAs can't show me any pendant as I was on someone's list.

After I heard that, my already waning interest went flat. Yah, I did receive photos from my overseas SA but I just became so disengaged. I spoke to a girlfriend who also kind of lost interest since her SA is ghosting her. That shopping experience really cannot compare to the 2018 experience which led me down an expensive (but glorious) VCA journey. If my starting experience had been like this recent experience, I probably would just avoid the brand - and that was how my sis felt.

Most I've gone to were in Ginza. I wasn't really hunting for VCA but spotted the pink porcelain at Midoriya Ginza for around 580k yen and other HP's at Betty Road ranging from 400k-500k yen based on the color and condition  The price isn't that lower but the weak yen really work well in our favor. If you're into MOP they have a ton and are priced very reasonably.

Based on sm posts looks like there are plenty of non vips being offered this pendant. Spend threshold seems very low in some stores. Will be interesting to see if the hp posts to the website and when sas will start calling clients that haven’t seen in a while.

I would say mine is the lighter shade and happen to be my preference. Here I have paired it with my RG sweet 16 motif.
I have a Mediterranean olive complexion. indoor light, not edited and tried to zoom in and get a clear picture.
I would say it is a brownish gray, hard to describe but changes colors as you move..... I'm glad I got it, a very nice fall/winter piece.

I would describe this as taupe.
